We had to make a visit to the Isle of Wight for a weekend, and found that the most cost-effective way to do so was to stay in the cheapest accommodation we could find on a Parkdean site (not camping in March!)and take advantage of their 'ferry included' deal. Result! £79 inc. Ferry for 3 nights in a 'Seagull chalet'.
We arrived on Friday evening after a days' drive from the North-west of England, and were greeted by friendly, professional staff who gave us a map of the site, some leaflets about entertainment & activities, our entertainment passes, and directed us to our accommodation.
Unfortunately, we couldn't get to our chalet without either going down a muddy path or crossing a waterlogged muddy grass area. Our visit also coincided with a sudden cold snap and heavy snowfall (but that wasn't Parkdean's fault!).
The weather did mean that our accommodation remained cold throughout our stay, in spite of leaving heating on 24/7 during our stay. It was so cold that no-one in our party would use the shower(!) preferring to wash at the kitchen sink where it was less cold.
Apart from this issue, the chalet was fine as a base for a holiday. It was clean, comfortable and equipped with the necessities. We didn't visit the site shop, we used the LIDL supermarket literally just by the campsite gates. (If LIDL doesn't suit, there's a ALDI at the bottom of the road, and a Morrison's across the road from that!)
On the night we went to the clubhouse, there was a visiting artiste, a singer, who sang a wide repertoire of standards, popsongs and light rock. Bar prices seemed a little on the expensive side. Again, staff were friendly and courteous.
We will be returning regularly to the Isle of Wight, and will come back to Lower Hyde at some point. Until I find something better, Parkdean's 'ferry inclusive' deal seems unbeatable.

We tend to go for quiet campsites but, although this might not be our cup of tea in high season, in September it was perfect! The facilities are excellent, clean and well maintained and the price was very reasonable so we felt under no obligation to use the entertainment etc in order to get our money’s worth! The site is attractively laid out and there is a lovely walk directly from it, as well as easy access to Shanklin and beyond.

We had a great time at Lower Hyde. The welcome from reception was friendly & we checked in quickly, not much parking near reception though!
The caravan was relatively easy to find but however I think a few more signs would make it easier to find the section where you are staying.
The caravan itself was very clean and was just how it was described on the website.
Plenty of information of things to do on & off site.
Ferry travel was included in our stay and we had no problems with this.
Night time entertainment for the little ones was very good and all the children were engrossed in the Krew club.
All in all a good holiday

On arrival at the site we went into the office, only to be redirected to a second office which deals with touring tents. The staff were very nice, but the office was not really sign posted, and after rain was behind a six inch deep lake.
All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and we were taken to the non hook up camping field.
The field was very nice with good views and plenty of room. We did however feel that we were second class citizens on the site as we could not have been placed further away from the main entrance, facilities, water and loo block.
I counted 370 paces from our tent to the loo block, and it was the only one. The site was well kept and clean, but it was annoying to walk all that way to find a queue for the showers etc, and then have to go all the way back.
There were no hedgerow wind breaks on the field, and as we had a couple of very stormy days our tent was damaged several times due to unrelenting wind. I had to re-stitch several guy ropes over the week, and we did see a couple of tents be severely damaged. There was only one water point and that was about 250 paces away. We do not really want electrical hook up, but if we had have had it we would have been situated much closer to everything in more sheltered surroundings.
We would not expect to be going back to the site anytime again, but if we did I would book an electrical hook up pitch which would have been better.

Stayed at this site for a long Bank Holiday weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
After being told the maximum length of unit was 7 metres, I was a little apprehensive as to what awaited us, and although we went to the wrong reception (like everyone else), our allocated pitch was more than spacious enough for our car and trailer tent, which is well over 8 metres. My only gripe was that the grass was a little long, however this was cut the very next day! Although it can seem that static caravans are the be all and end all of Park Resorts, the warden took great pride in her park of the site, and was very pleasant and helpful.
Facilities are good, with a well-maintained and modern shower/wash block. I was pleasantly surprised to see a bowl and dish drainer per sink, which is very handy. Plenty of outdoor space for kids to play, with a fab play area just below the swimming pool, catering for all ages.
We only used the outdoor pool, which was quite small, and although we had the use of the pool at Landguard, we did not have a chance to use it so cannot comment.
We spent one night in the clubhouse, with the regular fix of bingo followed by an entertainment show which was 70's USA mixed with modern pop, which even I was struggling to get my head around, let alone my 9 y. O. Daughter. Bar prices I thought were OK.
For quite a lively site, it did get quiet quite quickly (save from one particular occupant), however would be happy to recommend this site to those who like large resorts. As a direct comparison with Whitecliff Bay (another Park Resort), I thought this had a better camping experience, however the entertainment/clubhouse were better at Whitecliff.

We spent five nights camping (with EHU) and I would not return here. There was a separate camping reception to the main check-in office and that was not clear. After being turned away we had to fuss about finding the camping reception, which was a makeshift hut! I could not fault the pitch size, although the post markers were at the side and not at the centre, so we weren’t sure which pitch was which! It was a large site and so a bit of a trek to all the facilities. I found the road around the pool quite dangerous for children and the lifeguards were particularly stern, unfriendly and whistle-happy. The toilet block was ok but on a key code entry and button exit, which was not great for small kids. There were not enough showers in peak season, I had to use the overflow portacabin. Both sets of showers were far too hot and did not have an adjustable temperature. I struggled to stand underneath them without burning - but it was the hottest week of the year. The shop was ok, but during the hot spell they completely ran out of everything chilled… and I mean EVERYTHING! This was a pain as it was too hot to store any food in our tent. We had to use the bar for all our meals and for breakfast or drive down to the local Lidl. The area was quite nice and there was plenty to keep the kids entertained. Pretty good value too, but not my cup of tea.

Just arrived back from a chilled out short camping stay at this park with my husband (having a break to celebrate our anniversary). We went to the wrong reception desk at first as it wasn't clear we needed to go to a different one for camping. The site would benefit from better sign posting to point campers in the right direction. The receptionist was friendly and helpful though and gave us directions to the camping part of the site. We found the camping reception and were met there by a female member of staff who had just arrived there (so I am guessing the camping reception isn't always 'manned'). Again the staff were friendly and helpful, we were given a choice of where to pitch (the site has well lit pitches) - and were even allowed a free upgrade because the site was so quiet. The site was lovely & peaceful - lots of rabbits and birds about. The shower/toilet/elsan/ washing up block was heated and clean. Plenty of toilets, showers and sinks - though only one hand drier working and one hairdryer (which was free to use). The shower block also benefits from having private bathrooms (one each in male & female sections) with over bath shower - which was wonderful. Nice hot baths to help soothe away aches and pains. Watch out for the cold water which comes out way too fast and splashes all over in the bathroom sink. We were told that the block had recently been refurbished - though some of the door locks could have been fixed on a little better. The entertainment was OK - shared with the sister site at Landguard so guests have the use of both. You can tell they are really trying with the entertainment as they have plenty going on for families. The kids seemed to be enjoying themselves lots. There are places to eat on site, but we went into Shanklin which isn't so far, for cooked breakfast. We had relatives staying at the sister site Landguard - and walking between the sites at night would feel safer if the adjoining road was better lit. We got a bit lost at one point. On the whole we enjoyed our little break.

Big family oriented site mainly filled with mobile homes. Big touring field at the back of the 'mobile homes area'. Good pitches with a large modern toilet/shower block. Plenty of things to do on site if that is your bent. Large Lidl next door to the site. Site is set 'behind' the town; C. 20 mins walk from the touring field. Cost of a one man tent was £9. 00 which, given the facilities available (evenn if I didn't use them!), I think was a great deal.

Just back from 4 days at lower Hyde holiday park isle of white. Just thought I'd share our views.
We arrived on Monday afternoon to be told to see the warden of the touring area, so off we set round the site to the touring area which to me was strangely situated at the highest point of the site in wide open areas, to find no body at the hut to check us in or welcome us, just our pack nailed to the hut wall, no plot number was allocated which to be honest was fine, we picked a pitch near to the toilet and wash-up facilities.
These were excellent really, showers took a while to get hot but when they did they were fab, block itself was warm inside at all times of the day which was also great to see. Also they were very clean at all times(this was helped by other guests of course cleaning up after themselves). The bad part was the baby changing room was locked, and the incorrect code given to the guests upon arrival, ours was wrong and a couple after us too.
The leisure complex was ok, not great but ok. The pool was very small for the size of the site baring in mind how many people would be there during the season height. We only went out for one night to see a comedian, who was very funny so that was good, however the bar prices were not so funny. £14. 0 for a bottle of wine which was prob bought from Morrison`s down the road for 4 or 5 pound was a tad steep. Other than that there was a lot of games machines etc to keep older children happy. However we went with our 10 month old, who is crawling and exploring but we couldn't let her out of the pushchair to do this as there was nothing indoors for younger children. Such a shame.
The surrounding areas were good and close enough to walk to or drive in the weather we had, which was dreadful.
The staff. When we saw them, or could drag them away from their text messages were friendly. Some more than others.
From when we arrived to the day we left we saw no body come to check we were happy with the site, or after the high winds we experienced(60-70 mph) we were all ok and in one piece, that was done by two caravans near by to which we we are very grateful for the help in packing our gear back up.
All in all I would say yes to the isle of white, but sadly a no to the campsite we stayed at from a tent owners point of view.

We originally booked to stay at park resorts 'Landguard' site next door to Lower Hyde but were rang 5 days before our holiday was due to start to be told they were closing landguard early his season and so had been transferred to Lower Hyde, initially we were disappointed as reviews on lower hyde stated bad shower/toilet facilities and also noise. We were assured the facilities htad been improved and that we lower hyde was a much better site than Landguard and so settled for the change of site.
We booked the ferry through Park Resorts and so was heavily discounted.
We found Lower Hyde easy to find and only 15 minutes from fishguard ferry terminal.
No one was at the touring reception when we arrived and so were left our pitching instruction pinned to the notice board outside, we chose a large corner pitch '66' which allowed us plenty of shade as we had our cocker spaniel with us.
This pitch was close to the new shower/toilet blocks which were always clean with plenty of hot water (be careful if you have small children as they were very hot at times) there is also a bath in one of the cubicles which was nice and very popular. The pot washing facilities were spaceous and clean and round the back of the shower block.
We did experience some late night noise from the non electric camping field as we were pitched right next to the drive way down to it. And also the large wheelie bins were stationed opposite so heard them banging quite late at night/early in morning.
The facilities in the entertainment centre were good for young families, the night time was geared up for kids early on with adult entertainment starting around 10ish. The bingo starts at 7 and is linked with other park resorts so is for big money (thousands), we played but sadly didn't win.
We were disappointed with the swimming pool at Lower Hyde, the outdoor pool is warm but shallow, the indoor pool is small and very busy.
We did however discover half way through our stay that Landguard was infact still open, and so used their pool a few times, with much bigger both inside & outdoor pools, which were warm and deeper. Landguard is only a 15 minute walk through the caravan park. The entertainment centre looks smaller than Lower Hyde though.
We had 1 evening meal at lower Hyde but it was microwaved and small for the money, all the staff in the bars, cafe etc were all friendly & helpful.
It is only a 15/20 minute stroll down to Shanklin beach from Lower Hyde Park. We loved Shanklin beach as its like an old fashion resort and not dominated by amusement arcades etc. There is a lift up the cliffs back upto town. Shanklin town has lots of high street shops etc, and as you walk from the high street into old shanklin town it becomes gift shops and lovely thatched roofs cafes etc. There is also Shanklin Chine to visit.
We enjoyed several good meals at Vernon cottage restaurant, which sells the best home cakes I have ever tasted! try the victoria sponge :0)
We went to Shanklin Theatre and watched west end musicals which was excellent.
We visited loads of places on the island, Robin Hill country park and Black Gang Chine are worth a visit, and you can buy a discounted ticket that allows free return visits. Also the needles park is a nice day out, although I didn't brave the cliff chair lift! We went out on the boat trip which was good value for money at £5 adults £3 children, I think tiny tots were free.
We discovered a lovely beech at Freshwater bay, and spent a couple of days there swimming in the sea etc.
Godshill is another quaint town with gift shops, and a beautiful chocolate shop with viewing area to the factory were they make all the confectionery. We also visited the model village which was really good!
We also visited national trust Bembridge windmill & Osbourne House (which don't allow dogs sadly)
There is so much to do and see on the island, we didn't have time to see everything we wanted to, we are already talking about re-visiting next year, and would re-book at Lower Hyde again, but choose a pitch away from the non electric camping field.
