We recently stayed on this site for a few days, it's situated a short walk from the town of Shanklin (around 20 mins from the motorhome pitches)
Upon arrival we went to the main reception, parking here is very difficult as there seem to be cars permanently parked in the spaces here (not good for those trying to book in) We were told we were at the wrong reception and were given directions to drive through the static caravan site to the touring area right at the rear of the complex, it's very narrow and despite a 5mph speed limit a massive speed humps we were greeted by many vehicles coming round a very sharp bend near the pool area at higher speed, extra caution is needed here as the drive here is only suitable for one vehicle at a time, this area is very badly designed
Upon arriving at the touring area reception, we were greeted by a hand written sign in the window saying the site warden was off site and gave a mobile number to ring, we thought this was a one off but noticed over the following few days that all tourers were greeted with the same message (Not a very good welcome and somewhat inconvenient waiting 10-15 mins for someone to book you in and show you to your pitch )
We opted for a hardstanding pitch, it was grass with a reinforced plastic mesh laid into the grass, the pitch was on a slope and even with fiamma levellers our camper was still out of level. The pitch was also very exposed and we encountered wind all the time on site, the strange thing was on our visits into Shanklin and surrounding areas there was no wind or very light winds but upon each return to the site it was very blustery.
Toilet / shower facilities on the touring site are quite new as on other park resort sites, but neglected, we stayed on this site over 4 days and the soap dispensers were empty every day, not just one but all of them as I checked each and everyone daily just out of interest.
Each trip to the showers or toilets was greeted with a damp, musty, smell which I later discovered was the cleaners mop stuck in the corner, (don't the cleaners have cupboards?) possibly no disinfectant is used and this is backed up by the dirty floors and general cleanliness in the facilities. On the back of each toilet door reads a poster quoting something along the lines of 'Your mother or your wife won't be coming in after you, so clean up your own mess' which as an adult I found rather patronising.
We found the wardens on site friendly enough, and other facilities on site appeared to be ok, clubhouse, swimming pool etc.

Wonderful site and would visit again. The wardens in the touring area, were excellent, and couldn't do enough for you. Pitches were really big, and we even went and bought a little pop up tent to store all our stuff in as we had so much room. The toilet block was really big and and clean, and is closed for an hour each day for a thorough clean, 4 covered washing-up sinks are also available. The electric hook-up points all had water and drainage, and also a point to hook up your TV.
Shanklin Town is only a 5 minute walk from the site, and there is a Somerfield/Co-op and a Lidl supermarket right outside the gate.
We were a little disappointed with the evening entertainment, with the adult evening only commencing at 10 pm, up until then it's all for kids, which I personally think could finish a little earlier.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, with Shanklin beach techically within walking distance, and Sandown only 10 minutes away. We also visited Osborne House, Arreton Barnes, Cowes, all very locally and under 15 miles away from Lower Hyde.
We also did a day trip to Portsmouth on the Hovercraft, with a great deal to be had. Get the train from Shanklin Station (5 minutes walk from the part) to Ryde Esplanade, get the Hovercraft to Southsea, and the bus to Gunwharf Quay, for only £11.00 per person return. We had a great day, and a great trip around Portsmouth Harbour for 1 hour only costs £5.00 per person, and you can get really close to all the ships in port.
Overall, a great holiday and we are back again in October, as my husband won the weekly darts competition.

Stayed on this site for a week and the pitches are quite big and staff are very friendly, it was quiet during the week but at the weekend became noisy. Facilities (showers and toilets) are good but in need of some TLC, shower are big and have seating in them. Pools were good for the kids and lifeguards really nice. Would recommend this site out of main season and the surrounding area is lovely.

Situated on the Outskirts of Shanklin this site is convenient for country walks and the beach. Shopping is within easy distance. The 4yr old toilet block is not being kept clean very well and there is a lot of litter around the site. The pitches are large and mostly flat, but the cleanliness lets this site down. The on site entertainment is holiday camp style, provided by the site own staff with occasional visiting stars during peak season only. The indoor pool is small and the outdoor pool is 1 metre deep, to go for a decent swim you have to visit a sister park situated nearby called Landguard. The weather tends to be better than many places on the mainland and there are lots of places to visit.

Worst site I have had the misfortune to visit in 10 years of touring.
We pulled up to reception, no one to show us to our pitches, despite several calls had to wait half an hour.
First impressions not good, pitches had not been cleaned from last residents.
The toilet facilities leave a lot to be desired, 5 in the ladies ( two with broken locks )three in the mens, for the whole touring site. Toilets left 24 hours between cleaning, and often in an unusable state.
We took to using the caravans shower and toilet for the stay.
They seem to have extra facilities in a temporary block, but never open them.
Bins were left overflowing and smelling.
The 'swimming pool ' is laughable, only holding 22 at a time and being 1 metre deep, and not the cleanest surroundings.
The site did have some good points, nice big level pitches, very nice location, an easy walk to Shanklin, Good shops close by.

Stayed here over the half term break in May. Ferry crossing was expensive but Isle of Wight is a nice island to visit.
Access to the site is quite narrow and it is a squeeze to get through when caravans/cars/ motorhomes parked outside reception. There are lots of statics on this site but there is a dedicated area for tourers. Very spacious. The warden was friendly and helpful. You can also use the facilities on the adjacent site ( a few minutes away by car but too far to walk) which is the Landguard site. We did not visit there but was told that there was a bigger indoor pool. The indoor one at Lower Hyde is small and when it was raining, they had to restrict the number of people in the pool as there were a lot of people in there. Unfortunately there was no time limit and there are queues waiting for people to leave the pool. The slide at the outdoor pool was not opened either throughout the week.
You will need a code to get into the toilet blocks. Nice hot showers and cleaned everyday.
A good site with walking distance to shops and beach .

This is quite a big site and the touring field is tucked away a bit. There are lots and lots of static caravans here and an electrical hook up field which is where the shower blocks are situated. The tent field is literally just that a big field with no light and no facilities. Depending on how far down the tent field you go depends on the walk you have to the shower blocks! Take torches with you!
The shower bock itself is very clean and you gain access by keying in a code which they give you on arrival. However, there are no sockets for hairdryers etc and only one very feeble hairdryer there. There are no more than 5 showers and the queues are bad if you are not there early. People were queuing out of the door whilst we were there. Also most days they ran out of toilet paper and you had to come back once they had all been refilled - this got a little annoying after the first three days! There are some portaloos too but not that great to be honest.
There was an outdoor pool which is good for Children but very shallow so not ideal if you wanted an early morning swim and it had a slide to. The indoor pool which they advertise is more like a foot spa it is really tiny. The arcade was ok but the machines are at funny angles and can make getting round it awkward especially when its busy. The entertainment complex was good and there is a restaurant on site, but it was not the best food we have ever eaten and would not return to the restaurant.
All in all a good basic campsite

This was our 4th visit to lower hyde, but our 1st time with a tourer, when we arrived the warden was very welcoming and showed us to our pitch, which was in a good spot and large. He also advised us the best way to set up our awning in case it got windy. The touring park is spacious bright and nicely landscaped, the toilet and shower block is about 2yrs old and is really bright and cheery, although the site was really busy so there was often a queue for the showers, I got into the habit of using it before bedtime when they were quieter, because they were so busy they were never completely clean although they were cleaned daily.
Our pitch was hardstanding with electric and water close by, we were allowed to pitch up whatever way we wanted so long as we were in the boundaries of our pitch. This was good because we were able to set up to make the most of the hedges for privacy.
The rest of the park is nice, it has 2 pools, the outdoor has a slide for the kids, it has a shop, launderette, amusements restaurant and clubhouse, the kids loved the nightly entertainment and sparkys krew, which had daily activities with prizes at the end of the week.
The park is situated within walking distance of 2 supermarkets and also a 15 min walk into Shanklin with its picturesque old town, the beach at Shanklin is safe and great for the family, Sandown is about a 10 min drive away, and the rest of the island is within easy reach. The isle of wight is the perfect location for a family holiday, we have been for the past 4 yrs and have never ran out of things to do, all in all we would recommend this site, we are already organising next years holiday!

We booked through the park so all the hassle was done including the ferry. Very easy to do got to Portsmouth so could catch the ferry then we had the 30 min crossing to Fisbourne. It is a short drive to the camp from the port.
Weather very good. Camp is very clean They got a new shower block just for the touring field, very clean. When you book you have a choice of what pitch you want we had a serviced pitch this means that they check the pitch of rubbish and cut the grass before you arrive.
On the camp there are 2 pools 1 out and 1 in, both of a reasonable size. Plenty of things to do on the camp. Very large play areas for the kids. There is a good shop on site that stocks everything you need, an amusement and a very large club house, kiddys sparky crew. Just a short walk off the camp is two supermarkets, lidls, and Sainsbury. Easy access to the beach one of many that you can walk tooar you can catch the train bus or taxi or your own car. We even went on a hovercraft over to Portsmouth to see the navy ships - that was brilliant. Overall a very good holiday. Will go back again - this was my second visit to the island

We've just returned from 5 days at Lower Hyde. Vince and his wife, who run the touring section are very helpful and showed us to our pitch. The pitches are 7 mt sq so there's plenty of room. We had an electric pitch. The hookup point was very near and had a drinking water tap and drain by it as well. The pitches all seemed very level. It was very windy all the days we were there though but with careful checking of ropes etc it was ok! The toilet block seems very new and was always clean. It shuts each morning from 9.30 for 45mins for cleaning but there's a portaloo building that's open during this time. Even that was not too bad. You can freeze up to two ice packs at a time in the touring reception area freezer.
The park itself was very nice with all the normal things, it's not a huge park which suits us. There's a Lidl right outside the park if you want to do your shopping. The train station is just over the road from the main entrance and from here you can get the electric train as far as Ryde. I think the trains are all 1950's tube carriages!
It's an easy walk into Shanklin and it's shops etc. You can get buses from here to lots of places. We got the bus to Ventnor one day and walked to Steephill Cove which was lovely.
The only bad thing about the park was that the evening entertainment was a bit naff but on holiday parks it usually is!
Overall we had a lovely few days and will return again in a few years.
