This was our first visit to this site and it is brilliant. We originally booked for 7 nights, but eventually stayed for 14. The owners have sited the superpitches at the top of the site with fantastic views to Skiddaw, Ullock Pike, Lords Seat and Sale. The pitches are truly fully serviced with twin water taps and grey water waste for each pitch, although some of them have a bit of a slope. And the site is very dog friendly. I cannot understand the comments about noise, when we were there it was utterly peaceful. (If you decide to go anywhere in the Lake District on a bank holiday, you should expect it to be busy). My only comments are the toilets/showers are clean but need a update (the electrics are totally safe) and the on-site dog walk areas are a bit scrubby (a walk along the banks of Bassenthwaite Lake are close by). Otherwise this would be a 10 out of 10 review.

Nearly perfect site !
The location is perfect just off the A66 on the shores of Bassenthwaite however there is very little in way of services in easy walking distance (no shops, pubs etc) however if you don't mind driving then Keswick & Cockermouth are just 6 miles away on the A66.
Once onto the site there are 5 normal non services pitches at the bottom of the hill.
For a little extra pay for one of the 7 serviced pitches at the top of the hill. Pitch 7, 6, 5 & 4 have the best for views of Skiddaw (in that order) with pitches 1, 2 & 3 looking towards Sale Fell on the western side of Bassenthwaite. Either way the views from the serviced pitches are SUPERB and very spacious. On the map the serviced pitches are the ones near the camping area. Remember to bring chocks and also a wheel ramp to ensure your fully level as the serviced pitches are on the top of a hill.
The toilets, showers and bins are a little walk from the serviced pitches however this isn't an issue. They could also do with a good deep clean but we were still adequate and usable.
The only thing I would say is if you are travelling from the Penrith side of the lakes with a caravan then use CA13 9SJ rather than the site postcode as most sat navs will take you the long way round Bassenthwaite.
We will definitely return to this beautiful site and would recommend it to everyone !

Very disappointed in this site.
Me and my husband booked a super pitch for 3 nights at £25 per night. What the site plan doesn't tell you is that the super pitches are right along a large grassed area which is unofficially used as a children's play and ball area and there is a rope swing in the trees. We were not expecting this so instead of a nice relaxing weekend it was very noisy with children running around and shouting until 9. 45 pm. These were children from other caravan pitches not near us and also the large static park. This is not acceptable.
We found the facilities block very dated and not very clean. Also, there were double plug sockets in the wash rooms bringing with it the risk of electric shock.
The reception did not sell any basic provision which I am sure tent campers would need, but they did sell Herdy type gifts for some reason.
Won't be returning, will stick to Keswick and Troutbeck sites in future, far superior.

Just returned from a 3 day stay at Herdwick Croft. Extremely helpful people, lovely, quiet site that allows you time to spend as a family without invasive arcades, although wi-fi is available. Super pitches have everything for the Motorhome/Caravanner. Couldn't have asked for a better location for our first visit to the area.
Showers were free, hot and kept clean. Only two showers but there was never a wait.
On the minus, there is no shop for provisions if you run out of anything but this was a minor issue that posed no problem for us.
Definitely worth a return visit to chill and re-charge the batteries.

A developed and landscaped static caravan park with a central field for tents. Very exposed to wind. This really caters very well for the statics. Tents a bit of an afterthought. Friendly site. Decent facilities. Felt a bit misled by publicity which claimed to be adjacent to Lake Bassenthwaite. It's only a 5 minute walk across the road but nevertheless I would have gone to Crow Park in Keswick which is literally next to the lake for launching.

What a wonderful site, unspoilt Lakeland experience within easy reach of Keswick which is a few miles away but it's a fast road.
Cockermouth is close too if you need to stock up with 'normal' food.
Grass area was great for the kids and dog and they don't like to cram lots of tents onto it.
We will be back in June (and July and probably September!)

We had three nights over the May Bank Holiday weekend and we were delighted.
The facilities were spotless and readily available and the walks in the immediate area were numerous and varied.
This was our first visit to the Bassenthwaite Lake area. There was a good choice of hostelries within easy walking distance. We will certainly be returning to Herdwick Croft in particular.

Primarily as static caravan site with approximately twelve touring pitches and an area for tents this is a well laid out and quiet site. The access causes no problems if care taken as it is only about a mile from the main road. Our booking was acknowledged with a covering letter and a laminated card giving details of our length of stay and pitch number. The pitches are large and part hardstand, part grass (the fully serviced pitches are all hardstand and have views of the fells. )Facilities are clean and well maintained (wish there had been a small shelf in shower for soap/shower gel etc but this is a niggly point). Could not find grey waste disposal point? There is a new reception/office but we didn, t have occasion to spend any time in it to see what was on offer. There is a pub about 1/4 mile away and bus stop outside gate. Very good site to which we will return soon. Thanks.

We stayed here over Easter Weekend. 4 Adults in 2 separate motor homes. The site is really spacious and never looked cramped or crowded even though it was full.
The block was clean and although there were only 2 toilets and 2 showers we never had to wait.
The main selling point is the location. Absolutely stunning scenery right on the edge of the lake and river incredibly tranquil. We ate at The Pheasant Inn one night. Excellent food and a lovely atmosphere. Another day we walked up to the Castle pub and sat outside which had lovely helpful staff with knowledge about the area.
Keswick a 15 min car ride is also a great day out. All in all I would go back to Herdwick Croft again.

Arrived on a Saturday afternoon and the reception was shut, called the 'emergency' number and pleasant guy answered saying that I wasn't booked in but pick a pitch and he'd see me later. Turned out the owners were away so I can only imagine that my confirmation email arrived after they left but not a problem. Decided however to stay one night, not the two I planned, as this site just didn't suit me. It really is set up for statics with a few touring pitches also. Seemed tidy enough but didn't think the toilet block was as modern as it could be. Site will suit many but not for me, and was the most expensive out of the five sites I visited over ten days in the Lakes.
