The owner's of this site are so helpful and friendly and very accommodating. When we arrived it had been raining and the ground was a little wet so the owner sited us right next to the canal (after checking if this was ok with us). We were on hard-standing with all the facilities on tap which was great. We had a fantastic view up and down the canal and got a birds eye view of the little boats coming through the canal lock - we could literally feed the swans/ducks from the camper window, which was great.
The toilet block and showers were kept scrupulously clean and although I've read previous comments about them possibly wanting updating, I felt that they added to the charm of the place.
The site is a mixture of statics and caravans. There is a grassed area which is used for motorhomes and also for tents to pitch. There's an additional courtyard type area located next to the canal which is where we camped our motorhome the last time we stayed. This was the second time we've camped here. The first time the weather was gorgeous and we placed our motorhome on the grass area. The pitches are plenty big enough and I think that the charge of £20 a night is fab when you get all the facilities thrown in.
Gargrave village is only a 5 minute walk away and has a pretty river running alongside it with picnic areas and stepping stones across the river. There's a bridge that leads to a little church and a there are a couple of pubs that do lovely meals, as well as a fish & chip shop, an 'Olde Sweet Shope', small art gallery etc. (there's also a very handy co-op for supplies).
Although I wouldn't say that this site was geared specifically towards children (although there's plenty of grass for them to play on), there is plenty for them to do in the immediate surrounding area, and although we only ever do 'short stays' because of work commitments - with a bit of planning it would be the perfect base to explore.
The whole area is brilliant, you can cycle or walk into Skipton along the canal path (or catch the bus). There are various walks/pathways/towns nearby.
It's a friendly campsite in the middle of the country-side, only a 5 minute walk away from the nearest quaint little Yorkshire village. We'll definitely be back again.

After driving to Skipton for the day, my husband and I decided to stay over and were given a list of local sites from the tourist information office. The closest was The Craven Heifer which I rang and was very rudely told they weren't taking any bookings for the night as they were closed.
I then rang Eshton and said we only needed a place to pitch our van and a pub to have a meal in.
The owner said they would find us a spot and recommended somewhere to eat.
We turned up to find Fred mowing the grass and he showed us the pitch at the side of the house. He also told us the best food could be found at The Masons Arms and he wasn't wrong.
I had slow cooked pork belly, black pudding, crispy smoked bacon and whole grain mash, all for under a tenner. In a swanky city restaurant it would probably have cost double.
We were very grateful of the last minute booking but thought 20 quid a little steep for the location of the pitch as it was literally at the side of the owners house and within earshot of the road. And also the facilities were dated, however they were very clean. Didn't see a play area and site is on a reasonably busy road.
Owners lovely, location opposite canal good for walking and very nice pub.

Just had 2 nights at this site, it is only a small site but the chap that greeted us on arrival was very cheerful and helpful he asked use to park in the car park as it was very wet ( not a problem ) the toilets were spotless even on a very wet weekend as were the showers with plenty hot water and no push buttons either. It is a basic campsite all you need and nothing you don't. The location is great on the edge of Gargrave village with good pubs ( The Old Swan ) with good beers and great food and even the dog is very welcome and a Co-op for all your food and drink needs. ALL in all we had a great weekend and will be back later this year.

Site is close to the canal, which is great, previous comment of very clean is correct, but felt the toilet black and showers are in need of of updating. Toilets were rather tight and like a previous comment, I was pleased I was only small. The site is a mixture of statics and non touring caravans. There is a grassed area which I suppose would be used for tourers in the main season. There are tent pitches but they seemed to be on the grass in front of a property. Our pitch was very small with 2 camper vans sharing it. We were charged £20 a night which I thought was a touch steep!
Had a lovely meal at the Swan, staff were brilliant, the Masons was also great. The whole area is brilliant we walked into Skipton along the canal path which took us 1hour 45 mins.
Gargrave is also lovely and is only 5 minutes walk away.
I wouldn't like to stay on the site for longer than a couple of days, but would go back for the occasional night.

Driving through the village of Gargrave, we saw the sign for this wonderful little site. The owner came out and met us, and immediately had a laugh with us, he showed us to the plot, just in front of the toilet blocks, but we were to close to the vans either side of us for our likings. When he knew loved canal narrow boats, he took us to the side of his office block, and we parked 10feet away from the canal, absolutely perfect for us. Yes OK, it was in a car park, but ignoring the offices, what a view of the hills and the canal. It was our choice to stay on the car park, but it had EHU. And the views. Because we stayed the weekend, we didn't hear the noise of the Lorries, until Monday morning, but then that didn't really disturb us. Fred never bothered us, but made sure we were alright, coming round for a chat every so often. We asked about the local pubs, for a Sunday roast, and he recommended ' The Masons Arms' and not the Swan. The Mason didn't do roast, so we tried the Swan. Lovely pub, very nice and helpful bar maid / Waitress. We ordered our roasts, and they were cold, she took them back to reheat, back they came. Cold again. The 3rd time was OK. She couldn't apologise enough. We overheard some locals saying that happened a lot last week. The Landlord ( Who is very I'll ) came down and told off the cooks. ( or so we were told ). But he never came over to us to say sorry. OH how we wished we never went in there. So my advice is listen to Fred, and eat at the Masons, . DO NOT GO TO THE SWAN.

As several other reviewers have already stated, this is a small, basic but clean site, adjacent to a commercial unit. Other reviewers have mentioned problems with some noise from lorries. Fortunately, as we only stayed for a couple of nights at weekend we did not have this problem.
The 'Tough Mudder' event was being run locally while we were visiting which meant that the site was very full. Despite this the toilet block remained spotlessly clean.
There are a number of static caravans, seasonal pitch tourers, ordinary tourers and tents all of which make up a slightly congested site.
The site is located five minutes walk from the centre of Gargrave which is a lovely village with a few shops including a Co-Op and a couple of pubs. We visited the Masons Arms which I can definitely recommend.
Again, as others have mentioned the canal is right next to the site and is ideal for a walk. If however, you are wanting a scenic view from your caravan window you will be disappointed.
The gentleman who showed us to our pitch is, as others have commented, a real Yorkshire character and therefore very likeable
We enjoyed our stay.

Reviewers - mature couple with campervan and bikes.
Rang up the day before to book for one night as we were visiting family in the area. The friendly man on the phone offered us a space on the car park with EHU, which suited us fine.
The campsite is easy to find just outside Gargrave on the road to Malham. It is situated on the side of the Leeds/Liverpool canal, with fields on the far side, very rural. There are different areas to the site, mobile homes at the far end, an open field area for caravans, and an enclosed area for tents without EHU. The car park where we were has EHU, and is right next to the canal and an industrial building, we sat and watched boats and ducks on the canal.
The sanitaries are in 2 adjacent blocks, separate M/F toilets in 1, and showers in another. Washing up in a separate room at the back, which also contains a vintage mangle for wringing out washing. Everything was very clean, if extremely old fashioned. The water was nice and hot. The showers are locked overnight to prevent canal boaters from using them.
We cycled into Skipton along the canal, took almost an hour. Friday is market day there, good street market. Gargrave has a Co-op supermarket, chemist, papershop, pub and a takeaway.
We had a lovely relaxing stay here, the site was busy but there was no noise, and the scenery is stunning.
The price was moderately expensive.

Coming from Yorkshire, it is truly amazing how beautiful Yorkshire is and the same can be said of the village of Gargrave. Set in the beautiful village is Eshton road, on the outskirts of the village right beside the canal. We were met by 'covey' a proper Yorkshire character who runs the site who showed us to our pitch. The whole site is only the size of a football pitch but has statics, tourers and tents. We set up on the bowling green quality grass and plugged in to the electric and also the tv point, which is not advertised. In the village 3 minutes walk away is a co-op and also 3 pubs, children welcome and serving meals. We were told that there was a very good indian as well but it was pricey, he was from Yorkshire though. Truth is I hope you do not fancy Eshton road because this is one of those sites that you come back to time and time after time. I absolutely loved it. Just 5 miles from Skipton there is a Morrisons and a Tesco, we went on a Saturday which is market day and was very busy. Eshton road does not pretend to be anything it is not, the toilets are not the most modern, but they are spotless, the pitches are not pitches, you are all just sharing coveys lawn, but I do love this site.

This campsite did not meet our expectations.
We were in a tent and the website says there is electric hook up. NOTE: they will not allow tents to have electric hook up.
You can not park your vehicle near to the tent, you are packed in a nearby office car park. This meant we could not even use the power from our vehicle to charge equipment.
We were put in basically what is a lawn to a coal and animal feed yard. We were kept awake with the trucks etc. Going back and forth all night.
The toilets are very outdated. The ladies is very cramped. I am a size 12 and had trouble getting in and out of them. I feel sorry for anyone who is a larger size. The mens toilets were also cramped with the urinals being right next to the hand washing sink. Take a torch as the power to the lights is switched off at night. When you need them.
On the plus side, Gargrave is a really nice village with two friendly pubs. The campsite is right next to the canal which is very pleasant for walking along.

Just returned from a fabulous weekend at Eshton Road. Bank holiday weekend and the site was full but still peaceful. A well kept site and very clean. We were pitched right on the canal side which was wonderful. We set up our cadac and table and chairs and dined with our wine watching the canal boats and the ducks.
The owner is a very friendly chap who is extremely helpful. There's no shop on site. Toilets and showers are very clean. Although they are basic.
A 7 minute walk to Gargrave train station, and only a few minutes walk into the village. There's a co-op for all your shopping needs.
We walked to skipton on the canal which is a nice 4-5 mile walk. Then train back.
Ideal location for exploring the dales and very close to Malham. Just off the A65.
Cost £18 per night with awning
Would definitely go back to stay
