Just returned from another brilliant 3 days camping at Pheasant. Was a little bit worried after all the rain we've had but there was no need.
The site was in fantastic condition, you wasn't allowed to take cars on the grass for obvious reasons but our pitch was excellent, pretty much dry and plenty of grass.
The site is perfect for us, nice walk into Leyburn, pub on site, good facilities (toilet and shower), great bunch of regulars, nice waterfall walk across the road, in a good location for walks and trips out and the owners are really friendly and very helpful.

I must agree with all the other reviews and would recommend this place.
If you are looking for a basic, friendly and cheap ( £9 a night ) campsite next to a pub then this is it.
A few tips:
Just over the road from the pub there is a nice waterfall where you can walk your dog.
As mentioned before the pub does not serve food. We took food to BBQ but it was raining heavily so we got 2 doner kebabs delivered from a takeaway in Leyburn.
Take care if following sat nav from M6 south. Tomtom sent us down some really narrow B roads that added time to the journey.

Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant.
We stayed last year and returned again and the site was exactly the same.
Loads of space, sizeable pitches, well looked after and help always at hand.
Each time we've stayed we've been made to feel really welcome by both the owners and the residents.
We use the site as a base normally as we go walking around the area or just into Leyburn for a few drinks and food. The pub on site in open for a few hours at dinner time (doesn't serve food) and then from 7 onwards. Great little pub, with a fantastic atmosphere and great Black Sheep.
For the money I don't think this site can be beat. £8 a night for a 2 man tent is just ridiculous, excellent value for money.
Leyburn is a fantastic as ever. The pubs are really nice, selling decent ale too.
We went for a curry at Saffron which was very very nice.

Lovely little site within walking distance of leyburn,
Folks at the pub were friendly,
There was a few small problems as the site has only one toilet and one shower, not too bad until somebody wants a 'sitdown' with a newspaper while everyone else has to wait, ok if you are in a caravan not so good if you,re in a tent,
The main problem was we booked it as an adult site (it even said so on the entrance gate) only to find the two other large tents already there had five adults and about eight kids in tow, which arrived home after we had pitched up and paid. Kids ran about and kept tripping over our tent pegs and generally being kids,
After all this it is a great little site but be aware if you're not child tolerant

Just got back from this site and can wholly recommend it if you want somewhere quiet and out of the way that's not too far into the sticks, although being new to this tenting lark, I picked the wrong spot to pitch in and managed to hear a bit of traffic noise. If you can, I'd suggest going further back towards the opposite end of the field so you're further away from the entrance. If not, try and pitch behind the bush with the wooden pheasant in it and you should be fine.
Other than that, a very dog friendly site, and you won't be bothered by any noise from the pub. Site owners are very friendly too. I think the've had problems with kids on the site, as there is now a small sign saying 'this is not a children's site'.
We paid £10/night for a 4 man tent, with smaller tents being cheaper. Electric hook ups are another two quid per night.
Toilet and shower are basic, but spotless so can't complain there.
Would definitely visit again!

This is a fantastic little campsite.
There were mainly caravans but we were in a tent and the pitch was flat, well maintained and spacious.
John and Kath are really friendly.
John was there to meet us on arrival, offering local wisdom, tent pegs and chairs to borrow!
The pub was really nice, with affordable drinks and friendly locals.
Leyburn is a short walk away with loads of good places to eat.
We went to the black swan and had the hugest haddock you have ever seen! again really good value!
If your wanting a small quiet campsite with not too many frills this place is perfect.

Great site if you don't want 'luxury'. Basic with one unisex loo and shower but very clean !
Only 20 mins walk to Leyburn along proper pavement and no hills, easy peasey.
Leyburn has everything you could need, 4 or 5 pubs, Chinese Indian restaurants / takeaways. Also tea shops and bakeries. Most of the pubs serve food as well.
The Pheasant is a great 'proper' pub and John and Kath are very friendly. Opens 11am to 3pm then 7pm to about 11ish ! Does not serve food but the beer is good. Well worth £8.00 per night for a tent.

Just spent 2 nights at this site pleasantly situated and well kept, behind a small pub serving lovely cider and local Black Sheep ales. The owners John & Kath couldn't have been more helpful, advising on local area and things to do. We had a choice of pitches and were even lent some tentpegs when we realised we didn't have quite enough. Only one loo but it was always clean and never ran short of loo roll. One shower at 50p but it was hot and ran for ages so good value.
We were allowed a small fire (in a firebowl off the ground) and on the 2nd night when my husband asked if they did carry-out at the pub we were allowed to just take our drinks back to the tent and take the glasses back in the morning.
Small beck running at the back of one of the paddocks so may not be suitable for small children liable to wander although our 5 & 7 year old were fine. Nice waterfall across the road and a great playpark about 5 mins walk down the hill and only about 25 minutes drive to The Forbidden Corner which was the reason for our visit.
Pub doesn't serve food and closes at 3pm to reopen at 7pm but lots of choice in nearby Leyburn for a pubmeal if required. They do sell some tinned items and bags of pasta at the pub should you run out of easily heated-up camping grub.
Basic but clean and friendly and at £8 a night (£10 for larger tents) we found it excellent value for money and would definitely recommend to friends and use again ourselves.

Just got back from a nights stay and would highly recommend this campsite and pub. If you want a basic site, with adequate facilities and only a 15 minute walk from a very nice village with good quality pubs and restaurants then this ticks all the boxes. The Pheasant Inn has a great atmosphere and although they don't serve food was very enjoyable for a pint or 2 of Black Sheep. The pitches are bigger than most that we have found and for only £8 for a small tent is great value. We was made very welcome and had a choice of 2 pitches and was free to choose which we wanted. Very helpful and couldn't do enough to help.
The campsite was perfect for us as we spent time travelling round and also eating and drinking in Leyburn.
Leyburn is very very nice, some great pubs - The Bolton Arms and The Golden Lion which serves some of the best pub food that I've tasted in a long time and fantastic value too.

We only spent 1 night at the Pheasant Inn but will definitely return. We turned up without a booking and although the site was full John went out of his way to accommodate us. What a smashing bloke. Near to Leyburn and so many other attractions it is the ideal place to base yourselves. Only 1 loo and shower but this was not a problem. Very basic but very clean. We enjoyed our night in the pub which is very homely and with a lovely log fire blazing we felt quite cosy. We will be visiting the Pheasant Inn again very soon.
