Reading the reviews we nearly didn’t go, but it would have been our loss… adults only would be an attraction for us, but as it was September, it was of little consequence.
The site is isolated, but that’s the attraction, peace and quiet to relax. Yes, at night it is very dark, but surely nobody goes camping with out a torch? If you need shopping you do need to pick it up while out and about as its not practical to pop out for that bottle of wine you forgot! But that’s no different to any site you stay on; you don’t want to be getting in and out of the car all day.
The welcome to the site by the owners and their team was very welcoming and informative, well organised with a useful hand out and then personally accompanied us to select our pitch.
There did appear to be lots of regulations, but to be honest it was all just common sense and common courtesy towards other campers and staff. If there is a need to point out obvious considerations like; cleaning the toilet bowl after use it just demonstrates the shortcomings of other inconsiderate campers that have probably stayed….
The facilities were all clean, the pool area was very pleasant as was the terrace and bar areas, nice to just pop down to for that little appero early evening and have a chat.
Good base for visiting the surrounding places of interest.
We stayed four nights and really enjoyed our stay, would definitely return if in the area again.

Returned yesterday from 2 weeks from Chateau de Lacomte and had an amazing time. The reviews made me a little concerned as we had already booked the site after meeting Sheila at the NEC.
If you want a really rural setting, no road noise, black skies where you can see the milky way every evening this is the place to visit.
We knew it was a car ride from the supermarket so took plenty of essentials and bread can be bought on site and ordered until the bar closes every evening for the next day.
Previous people complained about loo rolls! Stayed at a municipal site on the journey back and also at Caen where no paper provided. It means no trails of paper all over the toilets as you are paying for it you are more careful.
Dark campsite little lights- yes! fantastic bring a torch.
The site was really clean- toilets, showers and pool area and that is most important to me. Very spacious site with woodland areas and we even had deer come in during the morning. Lots of places to visit within 30 mile radius.
If you want a really peaceful retreat in a beautiful area this is the place to come. Any regrets in choosing this site- none at all

I'm a journalist of French/Italian origin. I chose to stay on this site because English people I met on my travels mentioned it to me. I did not know or understand the concept of Adult Only Camping. This form of camping is not known in Europe so a good subject for me & I wanted to see what it was like.
Well, I very much liked it here, relaxing & peaceful all the time. Very pretty picturesque area, lots to see & enjoy. Walking routes are good, cycling too if you are fit. On site hospitality very friendly & helpful. Site facilities very good & very clean. Toilets always clean & I never wait for a shower. The camping area was lovely, lots of space & my own tap. Beautiful countryside all round me plus much wildlife. Pool very large, great for swimming in August with no children, this was nice especially no screaming. Relaxing on a sunbed was for me heaven, so different without children. Price for 4* site I did not think expensive.
I very much liked the food served in the restaurant, prices like other campings I stayed, but service, presentation & taste better here. Snack meals & take-away food were good, gooooood pizzas, M'mmm, nearly as good as my Papa's ! Bread, croissants & other nice things baked each day on site, you order by 11. 00pm the night before. Band night with the curry I enjoyed, lovely dessert, good price, band was very good, great music.
I liked the freedom pitch service with use of a car, made my site-seeing very simple with a small vehicle so many lovely places. I definitely recommend this concept of camping, & stay again this year but in the gîte. The other rental locations, Mobile Homes & Chalets are very nice & well equipped. This time I prefer to stay in the gîte as I stay with my Family because there will be no children. I enjoyed very much my stay here last year, and recommend this site. It will be interesting for me as I did not identify myself to the owners or staff. I look forward to introducing myself & complimenting the owners, on their camping. They moved here not speaking French in 1991 with their three small children designed, created then built their business together. An incredible story. I hope to hear more next time I am there. Enjoy your Holidays, who knows maybe I meet you this year. Alexandrea

This was our 2nd trip to Lacomte first time was August 2010. This really is a little quiet haven, very clean, very friendly and absolutely ideal if you want to enjoy a peaceful holiday without children running around, screaming and making a mess all over the place.
I can't believe some of the reviews I've read on here people complaining about taking their own Loo Roll to the loos. Even when I've stayed on sites that do supply loo roll I still take my own anyway! I have seen many times on different sites through UK, France, Spain and Portugal, people unnecessarily wasting loo roll because they feel they've paid for it. After spending so much time in France I have experienced how expensive loo roll is so Stuart & Sheila and the team no one really gives a damn about the loo roll you make a difference in far more important areas like providing a great ambience, clean safe surroundings, great food in the restaurant and your band nights were the best fun ever!
Well done to you and your team keep up the good work and look forward to seeing you next season.

We've just returned from Chateau De Lacompte after our 4th visit in 3 years ( twice this year). Yes, It really is that good!
If you are searching for peace and quiet and the chance to relax and unwind at your own pace, then this has to be the place. The pitches are generous, well tended and separated by hedges which offer much needed shade in the middle of the day. At night the absence of light pollution reveals the best view of the night sky I have ever seen. Many times we have stayed up until the early hours stargazing and counting the satellites and shooting stars.
The toilet and shower blocks are large and spotless, although I have to admit that the full-service pitches mean that we have rarely used the showers on a regular basis.
The pool is one of the most inviting we have ever enjoyed. Spotlessly clean, cool and never crowded; whenever we have arrived at the pool we have always had sunbeds available and have never been disturbed by other bathers.
The restaurant is excellent and, whilst the menu is quite narrow, the quality of the food is excellent and good value. The twice weekly events and live music have also been enjoyable and of good quality, especially the barbecue.
In short, this is our favourite campsite and owners Stuart and Sheila, together with the very friendly and helpful staff, deserve great credit for making Chateau De Lacompte such a peaceful paradise for adult campers.
We can't wait to go back!

We have just returned, having spent 2 relaxing weeks and what a superb site to recommend. Friendly and very helpful owners and staff. Lovely, well kept site that is ideally situated for days out to nearby towns and villages, although we didn't do too many as the weather was glorious, so we were more than happy to relax by the lovely, clean pool on site. Great bar, restaurant and terrace area to have a chilled drink or two. Pitch 46 was a good size and ideal for our caravan, awning, table and chairs and sun loungers. The freshly baked bread and pan au chocolates were delicious each morning, thanks to Stuart. Enjoyed the evening entertainment and spending time on the terrace chatting to the other holidayers. We didn't have a problem with the lighting or the toilet roll as described in other reviews and think some people are just too pickie. The toilets and shower area were spotlessly clean and that's all that matters to me. We cant find any faults and will definitely return next year and our friends want to come too. Thank you for a great holiday, shame it wasn't longer.

We have stayed at Chateau de Lacomte twice previously and returned again this year. So, if you like the kind of holiday that suits us, this is for you.
You will get –
• A quiet, peaceful site, even in high season
• Spacious pitches with their own water supply
• A choice of open, part-shaded and fully-shaded pitches, in either parkland or wooded settings.
• Lots of open parkland and wooded pathways to explore
• A great pool which is never crowded
• A good restaurant, indoor bar and spacious outdoor bar terrace
• Occasional evening entertainment
• And, friendly helpful owners and staff.
It really is a great place to de-stress and relax.
If you venture off site, short car journeys will take you to Rocamadour, Souillac, Figeac, Padirac, etc. You will need to use your car or a bike to explore, as Carlucet is a long walk away and there is little there.
But that is the beauty of the site; it is a rural idyll for adults, not a bustling centre of activity for teenagers. Its layout means that very little noise is transmitted from the bar/restaurant/pool area to the camping area, and many of the pitches have no-one facing them and open fields behind them.
So, settle down in the sun, open a bottle of wine and listen to the birds singing. Aah, roll on next summer!

Great site and best 3 weeks holiday ever had in 45 years of camping across Europe and UK. The site is well run and relaxing with friendly staff who do everything to please. It is so quiet and tranquil with little noise pollution. One can visit the facilities without fear of being knocked over by a skate boards scooters or bikes by un supervised children. It is set in 38 acres of woodland with terrific skies at night. The pool is an absolute gem with plenty of sun loungers for campers. The location is ideal for the sites of the Lot Valley with its friendly and welcoming inhabitants. We will be back as Caravan Club Members.

The grounds of this site were beautiful, but it wasn't made clear that it is a 14 mile round trip to the nearest shops for essentials and no stroll to the local bar to watch the world go round.
Thoroughly objected to having to take own loo roll to toilet. Seems very mean and penny pinching and somewhat embarrassing. Toilet/shower block not suitably located; they should be centrally sited for those intended to use them. Same with rubbish bins. As far away from campers as they possibly could be!
Having travelled 400 miles in a day to get there checking in took 40 minutes. All we wanted to do was pitch our van and get settled in but couldn't do this until we'd paid up. Why on earth we couldn't have done this the next morning I'll never know but we were too tired and not thinking straight to question this.
The pitch we were allocated (41) was very small for our unit and right under trees. Wouldn't have got in if we didn't have a mover. Very shady, hardly any sun got through, and once awning up nowhere for chairs or table outside the awning. Still clearing the tree debris from the roof even after the journey home. Drain blocked so grey waste into bushes.
Such a shame as the site has a lot of potential and is so quiet and peaceful. Staff all very friendly and work hard but wouldn't rush back.

We went to this camp site last year (2013) and are planning to return again for this years camping holiday.
We phoned and talked to Stuart three days before we set off, due to the time of year, off peak, there was no need to book, 'just turn up, we'll see you Sunday'. The journey was a nightmare due to heavy rain all the way from Calais till about 15 miles from the camp. However as soon as we reached the site the stress of the journey melted away due to the warm welcome from Sheila.
Stuart and Sheila are the owners. They were friendly and informative about the local area and were on hand when needed but were totally unobtrusive during our stay.
We loved the fact the site is adults only and, as other reviewers have stated, set in beautiful, peaceful woodland. We were actually surprised at the size of the pitches. We had a four man tent and our pitch had room enough for the tent, the car and the extension we made out of our tarps, with enough extra space not to feel cramped.
Looking forward to this years trip.
