Chateau de LaComte Country Club set by a substantial area designated as a National Park in the centre of the Lot region France.

Rating this just over half way through a 14 day stay and I really can’t understand some of the comments of other reviewers. Some are almost like saying if you book a stay in on the Outer Hebrides the scenery is lovely but too windy! Chateau de LaComte is a quiet site with wonderfully spaced pitches set in mixed woodland and open pastureland both within the Chateau grounds and the surrounding areas. Saying it is quiet, there is always conversation to be had at the bar or sun terrace and swimming pool. Several evenings a week there are other activities a BBQ with live music or quiz, so if you want a little more chatter the option is there but doesn’t disturb the rest of the site. Naturally there is always pitch to pitch gossip to be had! The site is very well maintained, showers, toilets, pool, bar and roads around the site are all as you would hope to find. There is also a great restaurant separated to the back of the bar area with very high standard food, way above most camp site restaurants and a reasonable price too. Food is also available on the terrace. Fresh bread, milk, ice creams are available on site and a weekly farmers market in the local village. Great walks and cycle ways directly from the site; you can be out all-day and hardly see anyone, spectacular scenery and some great forest tracks, small hamlets and villages to be explored.

In lovely location, many nice places to visit by car. Some pitches very small with lots of weeds not much grass, very muddy when it rained. Gents toilet roof leaked so floors wet when it rains. Lights on timer (very short) You have to drive to the bins as they are so far away. You have to take your shoes off on entering the shower room (unhygienic). Spin dryer & W/machine £5 each. Not told when booking that they charge £6 per night for electricity, my 4 bed house is less than half that for gas & electricity a day in July.

The pool area is very tired & in need of TLC. The BBQ & Curry evenings are very good plenty of food. Good band. The restaurant is good value, food very good but limited menu. Wine was Red, White, Rose out of a box but perfectly drinkable.

We booked for a week, but left after two days. Our pitch was very bumpy. The washblock is old and the showers are freezing. We never got any hot water. The washing up sinks are too high and no hot water. There are posters everywhere urging you to clean up so the staff don't have to. A sign went up saying 'From 8 July we will not be providing toilet rolls' this made us laugh as there weren't any to start with. The lights work on a time switch and go off well before you have finished, plunging you into darkness! There is nothing you need in the very little shop and the drive to the nearest town is along very very narrow and winding lanes. I don't think the area is suitable for large towed vehicles. The restaurant was expensive and unremarkable. No one used the bar when we were there and the whole place felt sad and unloved which is a shame because it could be fabulous.

As this was our first Adults only site, we were expecting great things especially as the camp was set in 32 acres so the brochure said. The owner was very nice and took us to our pitch. It might have been set in 32 acres but we were all pitched along one road that was about 1 mile long. We were not on a flat pitch, as described. The toilets were quite a way away, and due to the bad weather, not his fault, everyone used their cars to get to them. They were kept clean but needed updating. The pool was ok but tired. We were pitched a bit too close together as if you had a row, everyone could hear every word as we were in a 'valley' It was a bit off the beaten track and a narrow road to get in and out of the site. It was a mass exodus to get out before people started to arrive as there was no passing places for about 3 miles.

Just returned from 2 weeks at this site and have to say if we hadn't paid in full upon arrival we would have cut our stay short, as we felt the whole place was impersonal and in need of maintenance. There were blocked drains on many pitches that although reported to the owners, were not rectified. The owners dog was allowed to walk freely around the camp leaving his 'little piles' on pitches and actually urinated up the side of our awning twice. The shower block is tired and water was either freezing cold or boiling hot. The pool and pool area was very nice, but once again, attention to detail was lacking, as some of the sunbeds were broken. We were so disappointed with the site as we really thought from their website that we had found the perfect adult only place in France. Better luck next year!

A very nice location, our first time in France with caravan but site easy to find, welcomed at reception and taken to pitch. Pitch a little devoid of grass but weather dry so no problems at first. When it rains, it really rains and pitches soon become muddy. Shower and toilet block a little tired, needs some investment, showers unpredictable, some days cold some days too hot, owner apparently waiting for new valve assy. Bar and restaurant nice but a little expensive for a camp site, decent meal plus a bottle of wine 50/60 euros. Swimming pool area very good. Laundry expensive and machines old and small. The area and setting is superb but will have to think twice before returning. Local shops are a short drive, plenty of choice in nearby towns and villages.

We wanted to tour the Dordogne area and knowing of this site, booked for a week. The clincher was being 'adults only'. It was pretty easy to find from the motorway - well signed and well narrow roads. The entrance is grand and the welcome gracious and we were talked through the buy bread for the following morning take a voucher thing with them. We then followed our guide to our pitch. Hmmm, everyone here says they are large but ours was too shallow to back on to and when I turned the caravan it pretty much touched either side. If I had an awning, there would have been no space for the car. Nevertheless, the pitch had ample power, water and drainage but patchy grass, so because it had been raining it was tres muddy.

The whole site has a country manor feel to it with mature trees, open spaces, huge pool plus bar and restaurant. Curiously no shop. But it also feels tired. The loos and showers were below par and the cold or scolding water was explained away by a faulty thermostat. However, it delivers peace and quiet in spades, is in a beautiful location and well placed to tour this area but we left after our week a little disappointed.

We spent a week at this site in July.

The site was very tired looking and in much need of some TLC. The pitches were fairly spacious but considering the size of the site they were very crammed in. Each pitch did have it's own water and electricity connection but beware of the pressure!

There were no lights at nights in the main camping area so you needed not only to remember the loo roll but the torch as well. The timer on the light in the ladies toilet hardly gave you time to get in the loo. The owners were complaining about customers wasting water but even after being told of leaking taps they were still leaking when we left, The same also applied to blocked drains. The chemical waste disposal was disgusting and the rubbish bins were overflowing. We did not find the site owners very helpful.

The swimming pool has very few sun parasols, and when the owner was asked if we could borrow one from the outside bar area(which was empty at the time) she was rather rude and replied 'certainly not'. Even though we had said we would return it.

We were surprised as to how little the site shop actually stocked as it was at least a 15 mile round trip to the nearest shop. Some day's they didn't even have fresh milk. Bread was by order only and you must not forget your ticket otherwise no bread or croissants. The take away service consisted of a portion of chips.

Although the surrounding area has much to offer and the scenery is outstanding, this is not a site that we could recommend.

This site has good and not so good points.

Good - very quiet as advertised no children - amazing star watching. Bar B Ques each week with live music. Shower block kept very clean,

Not so good -- Shower block dated, 2 washing machines and only 1 tumble dryer for site and 5 euros each

Access ok if people kept to arrival times but of course they don't.

Depends what you want - if you want peace & quiet and rural location this is the one for you. If you don't want to travel 20 minutes to nearest shops then it is not for you.

Please follow the directions given by the site. Once off the main road, the route to the site is narrow, but perfectly do-able as long as you follow their directions. Well signed also. It is only a few km from the main road so it is not too bad. Just take it steady if you have a large unit.

We stayed here for 7 nights and had a very relaxing time. This is a place to relax, with very little going on.

The site looks lovely on arrival, with a really nice reception in the main house and pleasant pool area - it looks idyllic. The owners are very friendly and make you feel so welcome.

This is the first year as Adult Only and it was working well for the owners. They also had lots of advance bookings for next year.

Good sized pitches, most were level. Each pitch has 10A hook up, water and waste.

Toilet block was in good condition and kept very clean. Though it was a bit of a walk if you are at the end of the site. Could also do with bins nearer to the plots - it is a bit of a trek.

Really super star gazing at night, as there is no light pollution in the area. Best we have ever seen.

There are a few supermarkets within 10 min drive in all directions.

Plenty of open space to stroll around or walk the mutt.

We ate at the restaurant a couple of times. It was ok, but nothing special, but it does have a friendly atmosphere.

There is so much to see within an hours drive. You can easily get to both the Dordogne and Lot valley areas.

We did have a plague of wasps during our stay. The owners had never experienced this before in over 20 years - just one of those things. It did not ruin our stay, but it was inconvenient.

The pool area is lovely. The outside bar area is nice to sit and have a beer. Free wifi at the bar area - they ask for a donation to 'Help for Heroes', as the owners son is in the army.

We generally liked this site, and the adult only in particular, but did feel that it lacked that extra touch of maintenance. Some areas just felt uncared for. It was as if the owners had got a bit lazy. This is only a minor criticism, but the site could be even more excellent if cared for a bit more.

Despite this, we would return and recommend it.
