This was our third visit to this site, 1st in 2001, 2nd 2008 and August 2010, it just gets better and better the previous 2 visits were good but now it's Adult Only it's just about perfect. The site is well laid out with nice pitches, all fully serviced, a very clean amenities block with plenty of hot water. This year was the pool was fabulous because you swim without children jumping in and out or playing with balls and inflatable boats and screaming.Absolute heaven, just peace and quiet, which as we are both teachers was just what we needed.

The food in the restaurant was possibly some of the best we have had in France in the last few years. The BBQ band night was superb, the spare ribs were excellent, (I still can't get the stain out my white top, next time I'll wear a bib). The band were first class and the staff Paul & Dennis, were great, very attentive and good fun.

All in all a fantastic holiday, the weather was hot and sunny with just 1 overcast day out of 15, we really didn't want to leave, but we will definitely be booking for next year.

Stayed at Chateau De Lacomte for 14 nights and found it to be a superb campsite. This was our first camping trip outside the UK and having stayed at some of the UK Adults only sites we were keen to try this one. The pitches are excellent, ours was level and had some shade. The toilet and shower areas are kept spotless. The swimming pool is a good size and again kept very clean. We joined in on the BBQ's put on by Stuart and Sheila and found them excellent. The site is located down quiet country lanes but is easy to find and the lack of noise and light pollution is remarkable. All in all a fantastic 2 weeks. Thank you Stuart and Sheila for making our first foray into Europe so enjoyable. Thoroughly recommended. Robert & Wendy

We selected this site because of it's closeness to Rocamadour and the campsite's description of its tranquillity.

We only stayed one night instead of the 2 weeks we'd planned.

We are quiet campers and like tranquillity / peace / privacy; but this site lacked 'something' and seemed somewhat dead!

It was in attractive countryside and with large pitches but, even though almost empty, it felt a bit claustrophobic as it was low in amidst the (very beautiful) trees.

The reception, restaurant area and pool looked wonderful but the basics of the site were not up to scratch. There was a water tap on every pitch and having been advised not to pitch in one area where the water was 'off', we pitched away from there only to find that only brown water came out of the taps near us.

The only shower block looked bright and cheerful in the online photos and,as there were no skylight windows, it was to some extent when the lights were on ; I queried if there was a fault with the lights but was told the lights were only available at certain times (times decided by the owner as most suitable for people to get showered); it was 5:15pm then and we'd been driving all day and really wanted a nice hot shower. I was advised to put the small mirror light on in a wash cubicle on the other side of the block to provide a bit of light to shower by. The hot water took so long to come through to the shower (while I stood shivering in the splashes from the cold water) I thought I was going to have a cold shower in the dark!

The timer light in the ladies' toilets gave you just enough time to enter a cubicle and lock the door and then out it went. The owner told me he's being trying to get it fixed

The owners asked if I would explain why we were leaving and I mentioned the dark shower block to which he explained they were trying to save money as 'campers never switch lights off'. However he lost money from us as we would have stayed for over 2 weeks if we'd been comfortable.

It was topped off by having been 'signed in' a date/day early and being given a bill for 2 nights instead of one (glad we didn't wait 2 weeks; it could have been more difficult to convince them it was their error)and then I had to ask for my change!

It's a difficult site to find, with poor signs, so, having made the effort to get there, it was disappointing.

Personally for us we found this site to be excellent. Very friendly welcome from owners. Good location, 8 k's from exit 56 A20,& brilliant central position for site seeing. Also great place for a stop-over if going further south. Very spacious, relaxing site with well kept grounds. Wonderful natural habitat for birds & butterflies; & so we are told rare orchids in May/early June.

Large fully serviced pitches, 10 amps - own tap, this we liked; surrounded by shrubs & trees offering privacy & some shade.

Ideal for any larger units requiring space.

Car essential, but for large motorhomes or back-packers their is the site's freedom pitch scheme which includes a small, fully serviced & fully insured car. Brilliant idea.

Amenity Block was clean at all times, with plenty of free hot water.

Swimming Pool brilliant for swimming 23m x 14m, water and surrounding area immaculately clean. Gorgeous views.

Enjoyed our meals in the restaurant, friendly ambiance, & prices good starting from 12euros for a three course meal, with a glass of house wine. Available - A'laCarte, snack menu & take-away menu. Latter part of the season to order. Bar prices fair, often cheaper than local towns and villages.

Worthy of mentioning are the most amazing starlit nights. Never have we seen such beauty, the plough clearly visible.

The sunsets are magnificent.

Small shop offering essentials only as advertised. Fresh bread, croissants etc baked everyday to order, like many sites.

Surrounding area is fantastic, so many gorgeous villages, but do visit Rocamadour, amazing medieval pilgrimage city. Frances' second most visited site. Canoeing on the River Dordogne is a must if you like water, the rock face is fascinating.

For those of you like ourselves who wish to enjoy a gorgeous area, but wishing to truly relax on a quiet, well kept, clean site, we highly recommend this site. Owners, Sheila & Stuart we found to be very helpful & friendly.

In 2010 this site will be an Adult Only Site. A dream come true for those wishing to holiday in South West France during July & August, but normally choose to holiday out of season.

Our only negative comment would be, that this site closes on the 15th September.

We booked this site just purely on the reviews on this web site, not a single negative one.

The site was lovely and peaceful, maybe a bit too peaceful for some. My 11 year old boy had a great time, making lots of friends (within 10mins of arriving).

Problem No.1 – ground that hard pegs would not go in, thankfully two other families lent us some “Rock” pegs to see us through to Monday, Stuart (owner) also lent us some pegs…. But the nearest camp shop was in Brive (50mils) round trip…….

The shop was not up to much…. Nearest shop was 30Km round trip which took including shopping 1.5hrs. But you could hire a fridge from Stuart for 5euros a day, so you can stock up for a couple or three days.

The views from your tent was wonderful, the views from the swimming pool was fantastic, in the middle of a National Forest……

The swimming pool was a good size, but in need of TLC, the children kept ripping their feet on the floor of the pool and the sides as they play.

The restaurant was mediocre and rather expensive 60euros for three meals and desert and drinks……

You could get fresh bread every morning but you needed to book it and woe betide you if you forget your ticket they wont sell you your bread (as was my situation, I thought Stuart was joking but he was serious and refused me)!

The toilets are basic but clean and the shower block was wonderful, hot anytime of the day and night and clean.

The surrounding area (villages and rivers) are out of this world and the wildlife was good (Black Kytes, buzzards and eagles, Swallow tail butterflies and humming moths and Red Deer) to name but a few….

Only downside is you need to have a car to get around, no public transport of any sort.

The canoeing was fantastic we were on the Dordogne for 5hrs, just meandering down, stopping when too hot and swimming to cool off…… Fish in abundance.

I would recommend this site but not for families with children…….(I understand they are going Adults only)…….

What can I say? the site is truly an oasis of peace and tranquillity in a mad mad world!

As stated before in a previous review, an idyllic site, well suited for couples with young children & those of us who are slightly more 'mature'! probably not suited to couples with teenagers as from my perspective there's not enough to keep them occupied, no games room or video machines, but a fantastic pool! and the play area for the younger kids should keep them occupied for hours!, the site whilst we were there was occupied by mostly English but with smattering of Dutch & Italians.

The owners, Stuart & Sheila are truly a very nice couple, no I mean it, its not often you come across such a genuinely nice couple, I kmow that most site owners tend to be 'nice' to their customers, but having met them both at the NEC in Nov 07 & stayed on site for 2 weeks, I can honestly say, in all the time we've been caravanning, 30+ years, we've never met such a nice couple who are so genuinely concerned that you have a good time on their site. Their information regarding the surrounding area & sights was spot on!

The touring section has 75 pitches, all with power, water and drainage (so all are fully serviced pitches if you have the necessary equipment) whilst mostly flat ish & grass, you'll need both leveling devices & rock pegs to peg down the awning to be comfortable & secure.

Whilst there is only 1 shower & toilet block to serve the whole site (camping & tourers) its fair to say that although a little tired they are absolutely spotless! and there was never a queue for them as there is more than enough showers to go around! (push button operated, personally not my preference but more than made up by the copious amounts of hot water always available)

The bar & restaurant are first class! (Well done Sheila the Duck was fabulous! ooh & the melon & casis starter. To die for!) and the prices are reasonable when compared to the 'local' ones (and I use the term local in its broadest sense)once you've stayed there you'll know what I mean!

The nearest town with a supermarket (L'clerc & its more than past its sell by date!) is in Gramat, about 10 miles away, but they are building a new one almost oposite it, otherwise its a trip to Gourdon, about 20 miles away to the Intermarche, so make sure you're stocked up with the necessities.

Rocamadour, about 14km away is absolutely stunning! nothing can prepare you for the view as you aproach it from either Couzou or L'Hospitalet, Truly a Kodak moment! make sure your camera is at the ready! but beware in high season its the second most visited site in France after Mont St Michel, so parking may be a problem?

Would we go back there? a resounding yes we would!

To Sheila & Stuart, Thank you, Thank you, thank you for being such wonderful hosts, & persuading us to come to your wonderful site, we hope to return soon (exchange rates & credit crunch permitting).

Yes pitches good size and pool very nice. Actually we visited in 2004 and must have found site on bad day! Doggie mess around site was a pain, food was low quality and expensive but wife of owner was away when we stayed. Facilities were v clean but lights were on a very short timer.
Problem was, we had just stayed at excellent site. Moulin du Perie at Sauveterre La Lemance near Fumel. Would really recommend it.

Beautifully quiet site with excellent and very clean facilities. The wildlife was fantastic, the bird song amazing. Some great country walks all around, and ideal for VTT. Superb situation for all site seeing. Rocamadour is a must, just 12 kms away from site. The pitches are nice and big and all divided with beautiful shrubs and trees.
The restaurant on site is really good, the food was superb, beautifully presented, tasted wonderful & we thought the meal prices were fair. Bar prices were cheap compared to most places we visited.

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful environment then this camping is for you. Idyllic for couples like ourselves outside of the main summer season. Have a look at the special offer page on their web-site/good prices. For summer holidays this site is very safe for children.

Easy route in from the A20 - exit at jnct 56. First R.A.B go straight over. 2nd R.A.B. Take 3rd exit D807 /Gramat. Take 3rd left turn, Carlucet-Rocamadour. Approx 4 kms and there are some easy bends, on the 6 th right hand bend take your left turn, follow up and at the fork take your left hand turn and follow the road up around to your left. At the 1st junction go straight over, at the 2nd bear left and at the next fork take your left. Keep on this road for 1/2 km and you are there. It is not a difficult route in. Happy Holidays.

We found the owners helpful & friendly, always makes a difference;

The site is easily reached from junction 56 on the A20 Autoroute.

The site is approx 25 miles south of Brive and about 28 miles north of Cahor (the wine district).

The Dordogne river can be reached in about 15 to 20 minutes from the site, which is ideal for swimming, fishing or canoeing.

This site is set in rural France and therefore is ideal for those wishing to walk or ride along quiet roads.

There is no light pollution and the sky on a clear night is something special, where the Milky Way and thousands of stars can be seen.

A really peacefull site where you can relax and enjoy your holiday without the usual noise at some sites in the Dordogne area.
