It's the first time we have stayed on this site and we were very impressed with it and the facilities were excellent, The toilet and shower room were very clean.
The pitches were well spaced out and had plenty of room. The price to stay was very reasonable.
It was situated 2 miles from Hawes itself and the walk-in was beautiful. Just at the end of the site is a woodland that has the most amazing waterfall in it.
I would recommend this site to others and will definitely be back again.

This campsite was perfect for us, it was lovely and quite. There was a lot of caravans with permanent pitches and not everyone was there which made it lovely and quiet.
The toilet block was always clean and modern. Showers were 50p, hair dryer 20p so remember to bring these with you! All pitches had access to electricity.
A two minute walk away was Shaw Ghyll woodland Trust walk. A lovely walk along the river, a few little waterfalls and access to the water for a little paddle.
We visited Hawes, Aysgarth Falls, Forbidden Corner, Leyburn, Wensleydale Creamery and lots of ice cream farms whilst staying here.
Would definitely return and would recommend to friends and family.

This seems to be the first review for 3 years so discount all previous adverse comments. Most complaints have been about the toilet block which has been fitted out to compare with any other site.
The Dales can be bleak but this site is well protected by trees making it sheltered but still with views; fortunately no rooks. Pitches are flat and half gravelled.
Most pitches are for long term caravans so there can be few people at times making it quiet and exclusive. There is room to kick a ball around and a stream and walks on your doorstep but no playground.
5 minute walk to local hotel and 5 min. Drive to Hawes. If you don't want the holiday village option this is ideal and at £25 it is a bargain to which we would definitely return.

Our third visit here. Love this site, Kids can play in the stream that runs alongside the site. Multiple waterfalls for them to play in.
Walks are numerous from the site. Three mile trek into Hawes to eat ice cream at the creamery. Two miles to Hardraw Force.
What more could you want??

Lovely quiet peaceful site situated 10 mins from Hawes. Pitches are flat and spacious.
Shower / toilet block brand new and very clean. We spotted red squirrels on site along with the usual rabbits!
There were a number of static caravans and the owners were really friendly.
We stayed during the week of torrential rain and gusty winds in June but the site is very sheltered so not a problem if the weather is inclement.
The site is central for touring the areas towns / waterfalls / lakes very easily.
We visited Leyburn, Richmond, Aysgarth, Windermere, Kendal, Ingleton, Sedburgh and many more. Would highly recommend.

We stayed for 9 nights at this campsite. It was peak season and the Yorkshire Dales is a very popular destination so I had to book in advance to get a pitch on this campsite.
It is a lovely situated campsite in a remote valley and has nice views on the hills. From this campsite it's possible to do some lovely walks. Alongside the campsite there's a small stream running and it gives you the tranquility you are looking for when you are on holiday.
When we arrived we inspected the pitch and facilities and we were very disappointed.
The pitch was a hard standing with some grass and didn't look very well maintained. The facilities were very below average. The gents was equipped with a urinal straight next to a sink. The wooden toilet seats had urine stains. The ladies was situated next to a dishwashing facility and we could see everything the ladies did like undressing, etc. The dishwashing facilities where very poor - but with FREE hot water. There are two shower units and of one of them the window was covered with a towel (however: it did not cover the complete window. ) so if you had a good look you had a real striptease. The wooden shed contained also two toilets in the same poor conditions.
We decided to have look at other campsites the same day and we came to the conclusion that A: everything was fully booked (even the sites with proper facilities) and B: that some site where even in a poorer condition. So all we could do was to stay put and make the best of it. The last thing we wanted was ending up as travelers spending one night here and two nights there!
The price was £ 25 and this was way overpriced compared to the facilities. The showers are 50p each.
Cleanliness, well for the first two days the facilities where very clean and tidy. There was sufficient toilet paper and the temporary warden did a fantastic job there together with her husband. Well done you two! Until the owner came back and was suppose to run the campsite again.
All the owner looked after was the cottages and every now and then the owner showed herself on the campsite to check the awnings of the seasonal pitches.
The cleanliness went downwards after a few days and little markers I left behind showed that cleaning wasn't really done at the facilities. After a while we bought our own Dettol spray and each time we used the facilities we cleaned some parts ourselves.
The showers were very smelly and not very well ventilated. There were buckets with water and a mob to clean after you used the shower. We did mob the floor and the first days the water was clean and you could smell the Dettol, but later on the water became grey and they weren't cleaned and changed. So in order to have a clean shower we had to change the water in the buckets ourselves.
During our stay more guests shared our thoughts about the facilities compared to the price, but they never complained at the owner, a shame really. Because when you complain straight away you are hopefully be able to change something.
This campsite seemed to me more suitable for seasonal use, usually caravans with their own facilities. That's why the British caravans are well equipped with good on board facilities! Also this campsite is not suitable for motor homes, unless they stay for one night only!
This campsite has potential and if the owner just could see that! If it was up to me, I would have changed the site and brought the site up to the Dutch standards. Still £ 25 per night, but with good facilities, nice lay-out and FREE showers.
The website from Shaw Gyll is far from reality and I was staring blind on that, my mistake. If I have done a little bit more of my homework I should have checked ukcampsite. Co. Uk then I would have read the comments and I could make a better decision on choosing my campsite. Well there you go, lesson learned!

As has been stated by others this site is in a beautiful position by a river with great walks in all directions. There is a good pub just a few minutes walk down the hill which serves food. Great for motorhomers like us.
The site itself is mainly given over to seasonal tourers and few tourer spots.
The cost is at the top end but the facilities unfortunately are not. £25 per night but then you have to pay 50p for a shower which is only just adequate and would benefit from an update.
We stayed for three nights and definitely enjoyed our stay but did get a shock when sitting outside our motorhome relaxing a man appeared from nowhere carrying a gun. He was looking in between the caravans we assume looking for something to shoot. In today's climate it is not acceptable for anyone to do this without explaining themselves we were a little shaken. We did feel that even if he was just intending to shoot rabbits we would have been horrified if he had done that in front of us.
Overall this is a good little site in a great position but be prepared for the other things I have mentioned.

A little disappointed, I don't feel it's suitable for motohomes. When we enquired on the phone we were told full service pitch. We got there and discovered we were on the bottom field. Electric provided however it was behind another caravan. The only water to fill on-board tank was outside the toilets on a hill blocking access in and out of the site. 50p for showers etc. Not good for motorhomes hence we were the only motor homes.
Expensive for facilities provided.
Good location to all local hamlets and walks.
Will definitely visit the area again However I will stay somewhere motorhome friendly

We were a party of 4 adults, 2 kids and a puppy dog.
The site is wonderfully situated near to Hawes and a few smaller places within easy reach by foot or car. As the signs suggest do not follow your sat-nav, follow the handy directions found on the Shaw Ghyll website. I think a map of the surrounding area would have been handy to have near the shower/toilet block as there is no phone signal (blissful but not practical!) so ill-prepared without a map.
A river runs beside the site which was lovely for the kids and dog to play in when the sun was out! The dog needed to be kept on a lead/staked at all times according to site rules. This was no problem as we had come past Penrith's 'Go Outdoors' where we bought a stake for cheap enough, along with other camping essentials we'd forgotten!
The shower costs 50p and as I have long hair, didn't last long enough for a proper shampoo and condition. There is a mop and bucket for people to mop after they have finished which we thought was a good idea. The toilets had loo roll replenished daily and the site manager appeared at the lower field entrance every day to clean the facilities and check all was well.
The tent pitches were in the middle of the field with caravans (some long-term) around the outside. Everyone was friendly and happy to recommend pubs to eat in Hawes (The Fountain was our fave, good food, dog friendly and free WiFi) and places to safely walk the dog (right out of the campsite gate early in the morning, watch out for sheep).
Disposable BBQs were allowed, just get some flat stones from the river to spare the grass!
Given that foreign holidays can be so cheap nowadays I thought £25 a night camping was on the more expensive side. August is peak time however!
I particularly liked the fact that separating your rubbish ready for land fill/recycling was carefully thought out, although the signs on the bins were faded and would benefit from being re-painted. There was a board detailing birds that could be seen or heard around the site which was a nice challenge for us all :)
We will definitely be back.
