Just had two nights at Shaw Ghyll and what a wonderful site. Situated in a small flat little sheltered valley with the ghyll running alongside.
Facilities are impeccably maintained and the wardens are friendly and helpful.
All the pitches are flat, some with hard standings, EHU is available and surrounded by herbaceous borders which were in flower in July making the whole vista a riot of colour.
Green Dragon is only 3/4 mile downhill (uphill on the way back) which serves excellent ale and reasonably priced food.
Shaw Ghyll campsite gets a 10/10 from me!

Quiet site set in a nice location,
Good value for money,
Nice flat area for the tent.
A short drive from Hawes or 10-15 minute walk to Simonstone Hall Hotel & 30 minute walk to the Green Dragon Pub in Hardaw.

Travelled in poor weather, wet on arrival but hard standing pitch was beneficial.
Warm greeting in the morning with lots of practical information. Toilet facilities clean and well looked after.
Great walking from the site or within short distances.
Well placed to explore Hawes, quiet site and we enjoyed the tranquillity.

I only stayed for one night as part of a bike touring ride but next time I plan to stay longer.
Friendly and helpful site warden and all the facilities that I needed.
Just remember to take some change for the shower.
The campsite is a short distance from pubs and a good chip shop in Hawes.
Good to see one of the resident red squirrels!

What an absolutely delightful little bolt hole, gorgeous campsite, excellent facilities and so peaceful,
A lovely stream running behind the pitches was so lovely,
Lots of walks directly from the site,
The site wardens keep it spotless, and were so friendly.
We will definitely go again 😊😊😊

Lovely site with a couple as the wardens. Just outside Hawes with a walk down into town took us around 25 mins.
Hawes is a market town with loads of pubs and cafes shops etc. Site not far from Hardraw force, £4 each to enter!
There’s loads of waterfalls in the area so we didn’t go to view. Hardraw itself is not far with a café and pub ( closed at the time)
There’s a lovely walk from the site through a wood with waterfalls a plenty. Not a big site with lots of permanent pitches for people who stay the season.
Toilet and shower block small with unisex showers (2). These were spotless and cleaned daily. There’s recycling on site for cans bottles etc. We were pitched next to the river which was relaxing.
There’s a security barrier on entry and exit. We couldn’t get any TV signal so we listened to our radio and watched DVD’s.
The Buttertubs pass is just above the site with some beautiful roads & villages along the route, Keld, Muker are lovely. The Simonstone hotel is just outside the site we didn’t visit.
Certainly return if we went to the area.

My teenage son and I spent 5 nights. Booking was straightforward and relaxed.
The site was quiet, clean and ideally sited for both Wensleydale and Swaledale.
Footpaths ran from the site in a number of directions. The water was hot. Facilities functional and spotless.
The only negative was having to remember 50p for the (long/hot) showers. And we chose a midgey time of year - but we just took our mugs of tea 2 mins up the hill and drank them midge-free with spectacular views.
All in all it was excellent. …with ducks and rabbits running around, red squirrels popping in, a snuffling hedgehog exploring my camping stove and lots of owls to add a bit of atmosphere at night.

Lovely location and friendly helpful owners.
Very well kept. 2 nice clean showers with a 50p charge.
We had pitch 15 which was nicely tucked away and very spacious.
Great for our 2 chihuahuas.
