Ok. It does what it says on the box. Cheap and cheerful pitch with breath taking views of the Derbyshire dales. Grass is a little pot holey but bearable. Loads of space to pitch, not fussed about tent size. Left to your own business. It is a bit in the middle of nowhere but plenty of nice walks and a donkey sanctuary next door.

Pub grub tasty but pricey. Land lord and land lady very accommodating and most of the staff are spot on (you always get one). We had great fun 'borrowing' a wood burner! Infact the waiting on staff were laughing at us running off in high heels. Very good sports.

Had 2 kids in our group and they were able to run off a lot of steam without any grief. They were even allowed in and around the pub no problem.

Now the bad bits. There are only 2 showers! For a huge massive site. Got fed up of waiting at one point so had to wash up at the pot washing area. I think they are more set up for one night stop offs. There is a second toilet block which is functional but in a bit of a weird position and a bit run down

There are plenty of water taps but watch out. The one near us was leaking and attracting the bugs, so remember the smidge.

Overall a very enjoyable weekend, made loads of new friends and drank a lot of booze (always helps)

We were taking the scenic route to Oulton Park racing circuit with friends. We stopped on the off chance and had dinner in the pub. We stayed overnight. Don't know where the facilities were as we arrived late. The food was very good and the landlord friendly. Electric was available if we wanted. We were parked on the car park which was hard standing, very useful as the van is prone to get stuck in wet ground.

We've just returned from a three night stay here and at £3 pppn and £4 pn night hook-up I felt it was reasonably priced for what you get. The showers, although only 2, were roomy and hot. We stayed in the large field at the side of the pub and as it had been raining for an eternity, it was very muddy but seemed to drain away quite quickly.

The toilets in the camp field were clean but the roof had leaked and the floor was wet through and there wasn't any hot water or anything to dry your hands on; not nice especially as we struggled to keep warm.

We ate every day in the pub as we were couldn't be bothered to cook and the food was lovely, especially the Sunday lunch.

It's on the main A515 so it's easy access to Buxton and Ashbourne, and although close to the road the traffic didn't really seem to bother us.

All in all we enjoyed our time here and would return as long as the prices remain reflective of the facilities.

We visited this site as we bought a Groupon. I went there with some trepidation after reading some of the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised.

We received a friendly welcome from the owner and were advised where we could pitch as we had booked EHU. There are 10 EHU's in total, 6 in one field and 4 in the other. In my opinion the one with the most EHU's also strangely smaller than the other one is not really child friendly as it is right next to a busy main road but the other one is great.

There are showers and toilets next door to the pub which were clean and functional and also a portable cabin in one of the fields. This wasn't the best with only one toilet out of three functioning but it wasn't too bad and wasn't the pit I was expecting from other reviews.

Overall the site was good for the price (£3 per person and £4 for EHU) and I will definitely be going back. Also the food in the pub was fantastic and very reasonably priced.

 Stayed here for 4 nights.

Great location. Secluded and picturesque.

Toilets were dirty even after they had been cleaned! There was mud all up the walls and on the floors. The showers worked well, but they needed a good clean. Bins were overflowing.

There was no food being served in the pub, so we didn't get to try the food. There is no shop on site and it is very secluded, which didn't bother us. Have car, will travel!

Would suit groups of people wanting to have a good time!

We returned to this site after a few years thinking that it would be the same as we expected however we were shocked to find that this site had unfortunately become a most unwelcome facility. We had a huge shock when we arrived the small camping field next to the pub was overgrown and we had to cut down the weeds to find the EHU point The toilets were dirty with no hot water the showers did not work - we were told that we could use the pub toilets but refused as they were not much better. We were also informed that the previous landlord had recently left and they were trying to put things right. There was also a problem with the pub dog he was a generous fellow as he left us a pile of poop outside our caravan door on at least two occasions and that was on the first day. We complained to the staff and they just shrugged their shoulders and said they had no control over where he roamed. The second day we only had one pile to step over. We had always eaten in the pub but after looking round we decided against it There was a smell of wet dog all around the place not surprising as the dog was allowed to roam in the pub too. We were so disappointed as we have so enjoyed our visits to this site and we will not return. I think that which ever pub company owns this site should have a quiet word as this site should be a gold mine but hey ho will find somewhere else in future.

Stayed here last year and didnt write a review at the time but after a stay in area again just felt I needed to say something. A group of us stayed here as part of a groupon for a birthday weekend trip away. We phoned a week prior to our stay to book and feel we should have been warned of the situation at the time of booking else we would have gone elsewhere. When we arrived we were told we could pitch anywhere in the field next to the pub. After a quick look around the facilities even though they weren't amazing the weather was good and we hadn't paid full price so we pitched up. The problem occurred the second night of our stay when we realised our fellow campers were all at the site for a rave! We carried on with our evening eating and drinking in the pub thinking the music which was vibrating the ground like a small earthquake would eventually stop. However it didn't continuing until 5 or 6 in the morning. We were all so exhausted on the Sunday morning we just packed up and left cancelling our plans for a day of walking. As said if they'd let us know on booking we wouldn't have gone. Now the reason I feel the need to say something now is that after staying at a campsite nearby we have just undergone another Bull in the Thorn experience! We thought lightening would not strike twice but unfortunately it did. This time they were holding a scooter rally with live music going on till 2 am both nights. We thought we would be safe but because of the open fields and wind the noise carried for miles to the point where you could hear every word from our campsite. Now I don't want to sound like a party pooper but I just wish the management would control these events because they have such effect on the area. So my advice is if you are staying here ring up and check they don't have an event on.

Stayed for the weekend with a party of adults 30plus of us in tents campers and caravans. We were a noisy group but forewarned the owner of this first. I have to say he was very welcoming and let us get on with having a great time the facilities were basic and clean. Stayed for the Sunday carvery it was delicious. Will be returning as there are not many sites that let you party the night away.

No local shop take what you need or eat at the pub

Lovely area very scenic, good for walkers. Well placed to use as a base for Derbyshire attractions

Just returned from 3 nights camping at this site. Very warm and friendly welcome, however little did we know that it was a 15 acre site. There was a big reunion taking place but we managed to pitch away from them and found the site quiet. We had to eat early in the pub due to the large party and the pub stopped serving food to others due to the large party they were catering for.

There is only 2 showers on the site which was disappointing considering how many people the site can hold. We did have to queue to use these and found the floor very wet and muddy, nowhere dry to stand after taking a shower.

The site did not have a freezer to use for ice blocks so we had to buy food on the go.

The pot washing was two sinks, that had no hot water and was outside and had no where to put dishes whilst they were drying.

The bins throughout the site were barrels, that were overflowing as we left.

Would return again, but only if they increased number of showers, had hot water for pot washing and had a freezer

If camping by the side of a busy road, sharing a single toilet / shower room with around 8 other tents and receiving a tepid welcome is your idea of a good holiday, then this is probably the site you should visit.

The pub has real ale, which is good but as campers you are left under no illusions as to where you feature in the pubs interests.

Such a shame as the countryside is so beautiful around it. Fortunately there are also other sites.
