We chose this place after checking a few others and this one won hands down.
Some people like lots of facilities and peace and quiet - I'm not bothered about the frills. The priority is the ambience and the people. Graham, the owner, is a top bloke and he runs a top hotel.
Me and a group of friends went for a weekend during some dreadful weather, and so the refuge of the pub was very welcome. Amazing place, steeped in history, and a very nice bar. Well stocked. Oh, and the food is brilliant too. Not cheap, but reasonable for freshly-cooked, well presented cuisine. You get what you pay for in life, I think.
Yes, it's right on a main A road, but so long as you accept that, and don't expect to get total silence, then you're not going to have a problem After 10pm the traffic drops significantly. I had no trouble sleeping at all.
There are two toilets, each with a keycode, and containing a shower cubicle. These were clean and well-kept.
The rare breeds farm is an attraction in itself. Beautiful creatures.
I'm quite sure we'll be back.

Just returned from two great nights on this site. We had a lovely warm welcome from the staff in the pub as we booked in. Facilities are good two toilets, two showers, two water points, could not see any washing pots facilities so we just washed up in the tent. Very close to Bakewell and Buxton for a day out. The views from the site are fantastic and really lovely and peaceful to sit outside tent with a lovely glass of wine! Only negative for me personally was the noise from the road, although this did quiet down later into the evening. Make sure you go into the pub its really 'oldy worldy' and there is a pool table. I would definitely recommend this site. It cost us 6 pound each and 6 pound for a child, EHU is 3 pound per night.

We arrived at this place at about 7pm and was immediately struck by the great views. Its pretty high up so imagine that tents could be battered by strong winds. Luckily for us, the weather was perfect!
There are no instructions on what to do and we entered the pub to be warmly greeted. The owner came out to set up our EHU which was ran form a barn close by.
The camping field is relatively small with space for 50 pitches I'd say.
You are close to a road which can be slightly noisy during the day but not too intrusive. The pub is quaint and serves good food.
Although the toilet blocks were recently updated I think they were poorly designed as the toilets were coupled with a show so should 2 people need the loo while people are in the shower you will have to wait. This is not a problem when the pub is open however.
The field is slightly sloping but nothing that would bother you. BBQ's are allowed as long as they are raised.
Overall a nice place to stay and I would definitely return.

A nice Pub, very friendly & welcoming staff. We had a couple of fairly large dogs with us, and although we couldnt always get into the bar/lounge area, they were always able to find a space for us.
We had a motorhome & required a hook-up so were in the area nearest the road, so road noise could be an issue for some. Although we didnt use the site facilities, they have been recently up graded, however the site does get busy so queues were evident. The only real downside for me was no apparent chemical disposal facility.

Good pair of toilets and showers! The campsite is after rain a very boggy place for caravans but what a place to stay as a base; great beer and food and friendly staff! Bakewell and buxton worth a look for shops and crich is a day out for the tram museum! The weather is very windy and wet up in this place and an atmosphere is here in this old inn dating back 1472. Take a torch and a camping loo if in the tent field it is along walk at night! The cold is forgotten with the roaring fire and the food is too die for. Worth a week if you have no children but if you have a week end is just fine! This site has 6 hookups all on the top field. Youlgreave nice to visit but only a few little shops. We will be back again to this top site!

The facilities were closed for renovation but the hospitality and atmosphere of the pub attached more than made up for this. Definitely worth a one night stay just to experience the pub, brilliant food and friendly locals. We were more than welcome to use the pub toilets but had to go without showers. Farm attached is well worth a visit if you have children.

We came back to spend New Year in the hills back to this site. Great welcome, great food, yet again the pub had a blazing log fire just right after a hard and cold days walking. The toilets are being re furbished to give 2 toilets and 2 showers, much better. Should be finished by easter. Great winter walking in the area plenty of wildlife, we saw buzzards and owls also a wild eagle owl how's that for a great New Year, will be returning in the summer, Great site !

OK, not top notch facilities, but adequate for one or two nights, which is what this site is set up for. The toilet and shower were in working order but there is only one toilet and one shower and as they occupy the same room if one is being used the other is not accessible. Though saying that the pub toilets are made available for campers to use out of pub hours. Very reasonable rates, and pub right on hand - not for you if you want frills, but for an easily found stop-over in the Peaks then all you need really.

Great site friendly staff could'nt do enough for us The rare breed farm is worth a visit. Lots of things to do in the area. The pub has great home made food and staff are great. They have recently put in 6 electric hook ups and at £ 14.50 per night is great with everything else.on offer. There is only one toilet and shower room but it was clean and warm No hot water in sink but we managed with shower. The toilets are open in the pub for campers to use so hot water there, great site we will be going back soon

Camping facilities (toilet/shower) a disgrace. Only one working tap in the washbasin, and that was a cold one. Shower not working at all. Toilet seat loose, these were the only facilities available to campers.
Nice bar though, right next to the camping field.
