Arrived day after Bank Holiday & found site very quiet, and stayed that way until the Friday evening. Lots of space & lovely views. The pub is on A515 but as we were on a field at the back, there was minimal traffic noise.
Got a friendly welcome from handyman, glad as pub was closed all day to allow staff to recover from very busy Bank Holiday.
Good location for Bakewell & Buxton, also near to Chatsworth for the Country Fair.
Two showers had very hot water, didn't need to queue - but wouldn't like to be there when the site was busy.
Washing-up facilities uncovered, two muddy sinks, no dish draining area, no hot water - we filled own bowl from shower & washed up at tent.
Had a meal in the pub one evening & it was very good & reasonable value. Pub has lots of character & history, felt comfortable & cosy.
Unlikely to return, enjoyed our stay as it was quiet, but if we were unlucky & it was busy.
At £18 per night, it wasn't the cheapest.

A group of us have just spent a lovely night at the Bull. We are a group of 6 work colleagues (female) and just wanted to get away for a night together. We really struggled to find somewhere that would let a single sex group camp. The camping fields are massive! we cornered ourselves away from fellow campers (although the campsite was very quiet, so there was loads of room!) weather was beautiful! we had a BBQ and camp fire when it became a little cooler in the evening.
The toilets are nice enough. There is a block with 2 toilets and a 2 showers and then another block with 3 toilets - the only thing I would say is if you were camping right at the far end of the field. It would be a little bit of a trek to the toilets - and they are fully stocked with toilet rolls.
The on site Handyman 4was also really nice - asked if we needed any help erecting the tents and he even asked us if we wanted a cup of tea. Nice gentleman!)
For us personally. I don't think we would have managed more than 2 nights here. Its very secluded. (with gorgeous views of the peak district!) we didn't venture from the campsite so I cant comment on the facilities around.
The pub is also nice. We nipped in for a drink later in the evening when it was quite cold outside.
Overall. Lovely campsite - masses of space! brilliant for a night or 2 away. Perfect for what we wanted! We hope to make this an annual trip so no doubt we shall be returning!

Just returned form 2 nights, 2 dogs and 2 adults. Went into the pub for directions where to pitch out tent, We were directed to the field at the back. There was only a couple of other tents so no problems in choosing a nice pitch.
The showers are basic but plenty of hot water. The toilet block is a portable cabin with no hot water. You can use the toilets in the pub when its open. We has a meal one night in the pub, I wasn't that impressed but it was reasonably priced and edible.
There is a walk from the site down the path past past the donkey sanctuary in to monyash where there is a nice pub which has an adventure playground at the rear. Its about a 1 1/2 miles to the pub.
Overall a pleasant stay.

Sadly just an overnight stop here.
£18 for motorhome + small tent 2 adults and one child
Site is in a great position.
A bit exposed but lovely views.
Didn't use the showers or toilets.
Grand daughter loved the freedom to run about.
Animal park next door was a great hit.
Really disappointed the hotel was closed (due to a gas problem) was looking forward to trying the food after the good reviews. Next time!
Not far from Buxton which we really like.
Hope to return.

I have recently visited this campsite with a group of friends. The site was very exposed, and very windy.
We did not receive a warm welcome, the toilets (porta cabin) had no hot water and were very much in need of a clean. The showers were slightly better, however also would benefit from a clean.
Went to the pub on second night for a meal. The medieval room was splendid but the food and service was poor. Some meals had run out, wrong meals were brought and not corrected, landlord was extremely unhelpful.

We are a family of 2adults and 2 children 9 & 6. Just come back from a weekend at the Bull in the Thorn.
Great place and the staff are very friendly. Facilities are basic but for £6 per adult and children under 10 go free what more can you ask for. There are two showers and enough toilets.
Only down side to this site is it was very windy. We will definitely return to this site again and hope it is not so windy.

My husband and I have just returned from a pleasant stay at the Bull campsite.
The main area for hookups is in a small grassy area to the right handside/slightly in front of the pub, close to the showers and toilets. The area has good access, but is next to the road, which does create some traffic noise early morning/late afternoon, but it did not bother us.
Although we did not need to use them, the two toilets/showers are spacious and clean.
There are two larger fields, one behind the pub and one to the other side of the pub that offer a few more hookups and plenty of area for tents. I have to say the views of the Peak District are beautiful.
TV coverage is poor (we used a satellite), radio and mobile phone(O2) were OK.
The pub - well, what can I say! Its fabulous, mysterious, interesting and serves excellent food and beer! We were made very welcome by the landlord, his daughter and staff.
The nearest shops are in Buxton or Bakewell.
This is the second time in six months that we have visited the area and we love it; can't wait to return to the Peak District and The Bull!
Hope you have a good time!

Found this site extremely windy, the toilets had no hot water and were in a scruffy portaloo. Showers were better but could do with a mop left in as often muddy.
The pub was full of character and meals were good though they'd sold out of 2 of the 3 meals we ordered.
The area is nice and plenty of walks in the area, some nearby, some a short drive away. The Roaches/ Dove dale/ Lud's church well worth a walk.
Lots of places/pubs in the area to eat though were quite expensive due to the area I suppose. Nearest shops we were told was Buxton.

Just spent 2 nights here, really enjoyed it, kids and dogs loved the space, me and the husband loved the pub. It was very quiet and had everything we needed. The two showers were clean and the staff are lovely. A short drive to Matlock Bath and Buxton which are beautiful with loads for the kids to do. Would like to go back for the scooter do and the music festival. And it's cheap!

Stayed just the one wet and windy night in September and were quite satisfied with the site.
On arrival we told to pitch anywhere and after a bit of a tour of the field found a spot where our EHU could reach a hook up point.
Managed to get tent up before the rain and popped into the pub to book a table for dinner before a quick visit to Buxton.
Back in the pub for dinner there was a good choice of food at very reasonable prices.
I had the mixed grill which beat me, never had liver or kidney on a mixed grill before and had forgotten how good it tasted.
Partner had the lamb shank whick looked like half a sheep on a mountain of mash!
Neither of us could finish our meals, but we didn't mind sitting in front of the log fire with our drinks whilst taking in the surroundings.
The portacabin toilets were basic with no hot water, but they did what they needed to.
No mop in there, but with the weather we had it would have been a never ending task anyway!
The 2 shower rooms were on a combination lock and are attached to the front of the pub next to the main entrance.
Overall happy with the site.
The staff were friendly and the pub was very welcoming.
Depending where you pitch it could be a bit of a trek to the facilities but isn't that half the fun of camping!
