A beautiful campsite in a lovely vineyard/farm setting. Brilliant walks straight from the campsite over fields and woodland. Nice walks to the Brewers Arms in Vines Cross a tiny hamlet about 15 mins away which serves good seafood and other meals. About 15-20 mins walk to the village of Horam, general store, friendly pub, the Horam Inn, Fish & Chip shop and various other shops. Wessons Cafe serves big breakfasts and other meals throughout the day but closes in the evening. Cuckoo trail is also accessible in the village so excellent for dog walkers or cyclists.
Very nice homemade cider and wine available from the campsite shop along with eggs, honey and firewood for the firepits provided on each pitch. We took our motorhome but it was great for tents, small caravans and also has yurts, a massive teepee and an old fashioned showmans wagon for hire.
I will definitely be re-visiting this site, for the beautiful setting, the closeness of pubs/shops etc and the friendly staff on site. Well worth a visit for a few days or more. The only point to note is that if you are camped in the electric hook-up field, the toilets / showers / reception are are little further away but probably only 10 minutes round trip.

Another fab weekend at Hidden Spring - despite the weather!
Such a lovely spacious site, with good shower and washing up facilities. Plenty to do in the area for walking, sightseeing and cycling. Ideal for couples and families.
Pitches (relatively level) are spacious and you get a picnic bench and area to have a camp fire :-) Wood can be purchased from reception, as can their homemade wine and cider and subject to availability, fresh eggs.
They also stock some items from the local village butcher. This is definitely one of our favourites and when they have space - due to its popularity - we shall be back.

We've just spent 2 nights in the teepee and a wonderful time was had by all. We have 4 children aged between 1 and 9 and they spent hours playing on the tree swings in the play area.
The teepee was beautifully decorated and fully equipped for a family of 6. The fire-pit made a great alternative to the t. V. In the evenings! We hired a grill at £5 for the weekend which allowed us to cook over the fire-pit. Delicious sausages and burgers from the local farm shop.
The reception area is always accessible and has a communal fridge and freezer to store your perishables. I loved the helpful messages on the whiteboard! Hidden Spring's own wine, apple juice and cider are also available for purchase. We had a bottle of White wine for £8 and it was delicious!
The toilets and showers were always clean and even though the site was busy, there was never a queue.
We will definitely be returning to Hidden Spring and have already recommended it to everybody we know!

Me and the wife spent the May bank holiday weekend here after being unable to get a pitch last summer. It was worth the wait as we had a lovely weekend.
Reception is open until 7pm but we arrived after this. However the unmanned reception was still open and the hand drawn map on the wall showed us where our pitch was. We all also picked up firewood and admired the cider, wines, honey and sausages that were all on offer via the honesty pot.
The first thing that took us back was the amount of space you got. It’s divided in to 2 fields with a drive up the middle. Other owners would have squeezed, 3 or 4 times more pitches in the same space.
The owner told us he actually reduced the amount of pitches this year which really shows the attitude they have. We were in the same field as the yurts and teepee that look very cosy. We each had a picnic table and firepit.
No groups are allowed which gave it a lovely atmosphere. We don’t have kids but there were plenty of other peoples there and it’s a great place just to run around and play in. And because of the space it didn’t feel like we had kids running round us all the time.
We had a lovely walk from the site and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. There is a pub about 1.5 mile walk away in Vines Cross although it didn’t look up to much. Horam itself didn’t really impress either. We did find a beautiful pub called The Gun in Gun Hill though. A little on the pricey side but we had lunch there and then booked in for a lovely Sunday dinner too.
This is a fantastic site with clean facilities and loads of space. If you can grab a pitch Id highly recommend it.

Just returned from a lovely weekend at Hidden Spring (the beautiful weekend weather helped)! We had a friendly welcome on arrival and directed to our pitch in the caravan field. The pitches are large but a little uneven so don't forget your ramps. The site is close to Horam village but feels like it is in the middle of nowhere, don't forget your torches as it got very dark at night.
As we were only there for a night we didn't venture into Horam or the surrounding countryside, we just relaxed on the site. Most of the pitches have a fire pit which was lovely to sit round when the sun went down and have a BBQ, few drinks and a chat but the site was silent by 10.00pm. The site sells bags of logs and kindling at resonable prices, it also sells local honey, wine and eggs from the farms chickens.
The toilets, showers and washing up sinks were very clean, my only concern was in the gents there was only 2 urinals, one sit down toilet and 1 shower which I feel would not be enough if the site was full, but I maybe wrong. At £17.00 for 2 adults, a camper and electric hook up I feel that is reasonable, but the owners did say that they had a minimum booking of 2 nights at the weekends which considering the site was only half full at this time of the year, is rather unnecessary, though I could understand the rule in high season. If you phone to book, try asking nicely for one night only, they let us! Overall a great relaxing site in the countryside, would very happily recommend and return.

This was my first time camping since being in the Girl Guides, and I was slightly dubious but actually had the most fantastic weekend! We camped with some friends, and between us had two children, friends daughter aged 7 and our daughter who was 18 months, and it couldn't have gone smoother.
We had a great pitch, near the yurts, in the right hand field, There is a maximum of 12 pitches for that field, which means you have a large pitch to yourself, and most of the pitches have fire pits, and a bench which was great to sit at and have dinner. Considering when we went the weather was absolutely baking hot we had no problems with flies or mosquitos.
We didn't have to queue for the washing up sinks (2) either nights, but maybe that was because we picked our times well, there was plenty of hot water, and the showers were excellent quality and extremely clean. My only gripe was that there is only two split between two fields of campers.
There is a wine tasting evening on Saturday's where you are able to sample the vineyards own wines, which are really lovely, not surprisingly we bought some! They also produce their own organic apple juice, which is divine. You can also purchase eggs, bacon and honey, and can store any frozen food and ice packs in the freezer. The village itself is easily accessible, there is a baker, butcher, newsagents and Heathfield Co-op is not a long drive either.
The site is also very child friendly, there were lots of children also staying, and our daughter was fascinated with the animals, specially the horse.
The owners were so friendly and willing to give advice or help with anything you needed. There is a quiet policy after 10pm which was great, unfortunately a group of lads were staying for the weekend and the owner caught them in his orchard, drunk, hacking pieces off of his trees, they were swiftly evicted the next morning, so action was taken to make sure other campers weren't disturbed. Basically, in my rambling way, I am trying to say that rules are taken seriously!
All in all we loved our weekend at Hidden Spring and are definitely coming back for a few weekends in 2011!

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights in July and, because it was a busy weekend, were asked to pitch in the mixed field (where camper-vans are permitted) where we enjoyed a lot of space and made good use of our open camp fire.
The site is good and well thought out, with lots of space and good facilities. The toilet and shower block is a bit of a walk away but is clean and the showers have lots of hot water and are large enough for two! The washing up sinks are under cover, always an advantage.
With a communal fridge and freezer and access to fresh produce, this site is friendly and welcoming. With a short walk through fields and woods to town there are pubs and local shops.
Overall would recommend and would revisit if I was in the area.

A very well run and friendly site.
We stayed 2 nights with our 2yrs8mnth granddaughter.
Nice level ground.
Camp fires allowed, makes sitting out very pleasant in the evening.
Hot water all times, but be warned the shower/ wash block is a walk away, so don't forget to take the washing up bowl for carrying.
Showers very clean and large. If its busy I suspect a queue will form.
Away from traffic and noise, and plenty of room for all.
A small play area with tyre swings. Lacks a 'very small' person swing though.
Overall this site gives the feeling of being away from it all, and has immediate access to walks, (bring an ordnance survey map).
For late shopping there is a well stocked local garage a 20 min walk or 3 minute car ride for the essentials. It has a well stocked 'off licence' area also.
A friendly and attractive pub in the village.

The camping field is large and spacious (a little lumpy in places, but there's so much space that it's easy to find a good pitch), pitches are very reasonable and there are picnic tables and old wheels to use as fire-pits dotted around the site for campers to use and a small play area to keep people's kids occupied.
David and Tamzin have even considered that cooking on a BBQ or camping stove can be tricky in the rain and have put a marquee in the middle of the field to give shelter for cooking should the weather be a little on the wet side.
The washing up, toilet and shower facilities are really clean (the best camping showers I've ever experienced) and the water is hot which can be a bit of a novelty on other sites.
The reception area is open all the time with a communal fridge / freezer for food and ice blocks and they sell their own eggs, sausages, bacon, apple juice, cider and wine as well as big sacks of logs, firelighters etc all at a very reasonable price, plus there are leaflets for walks and things to do in the area should you need a little inspiration.
The local pub The Brewers Arms in Vines Cross) is a 15 minute walk through the countryside - great food and really friendly locals - we got stuck here more than once during our stay! The farm shop at Redlands Farm is well worth a visit for food too and the produce is very reasonably priced and delicious!
The site is set on a working farm / vineyard / cider orchard which makes for really interesting surroundings and the animals on the farm are all beautiful and very friendly
We will be contacting this campsite again for a return visit very soon.

I think we have found a new favourite home counties campsite (ideal distance coming out from London when just for a weekend). Obviously quiet in April but the limit on numbers means that its unlikely to ever be truly busy.
Friendly owners (and children), good facilities (showers, toilets and washing up area all kept fairly pristine) and, above all else, great surrounds. A nice field next to a lovely orchard and accompanied by unusual Jacob and Zwarble sheep (I hope I have this right). The Hidden Spring cider was very nice (and reasonably priced) and the local pub in Vines Cross was a pleasant 15 minute walk across fields and served good ale. Didnt visit the other nearby pub in Horam but a good butchers there (+ newsagent, cafe, garage etc). Oh and the fire pitches utilising scrapped lorry wheels were really good and I intend to acquire one myself now.
