We stayed here for three nights over half term. We were in the tent field and there is a separate field for caravans. There is no EHU for tents.
This site has many good qualities; it is in a lovely location, the owners are friendly and having a real fire is wonderful. There are animals in the field adjoining the tent field and two tyre swings at the top of the field. It is a small basic site which is perfect for me but was not so great for my five year old as for the majority of our visit there were no other children of his age to play with and he was a bit bored, but I think in this respect we were just unlucky.
The site is gently sloping in places and we were invited to choose where to pitch our tent. After pitching you have to park your car at the other side of the field to avoid traffic on the field. I personally found this a bit inconvenient and pointless as the site is not large and was not busy, but perhaps when it is full it is a good idea.
A slight disadvantage to the site is that it is a fairly long way to the loos and showers which were adequately clean but not spotless and seemed a bit neglected. The 2 showers are in little rooms of their own with a chair and hooks and were free and wonderful.
There is a farm shop just down the road which sells the most fantastic sausages. There is a co-op supermarket 4 miles away in Heathfield and a big Tesco's not much further in Hailsham. We visited the Science Centre in Herstmonceaux which was really good with lots of interactive sciency things to do and Drusillas which would have been great if it hadn't been pouring with rain all day (about 15 mins away).
Overall I would recommend this site. It was quiet, friendly, unpretentious and felt safe and family orientated.

I had seen this campsite online last year and it looked very appealing.

We had an opportunity to get away as a family, so booked it online, the owners normally require a 25% deposit but as it was very short notice they said just to turn up. We then had to cancel the day before (due to my husband's line of work, and then suddenly on the Friday we were able to go! The owners very tolerant at being messed around by us!

Anyway. We arrived in the dark on the Friday night so unable to see the site, but the facilities looked great. We set up a fire in the large steel drums provided and David the owner had also left a picnic bench, firewood, their own apple juice and half a dozen free range eggs for breakfast (we had requested these.)

The next day. Stunning. A really quiet site. I stayed in Snowdonia last year but even there the noise of the traffic on the road was loud, this is the quietest site I have stayed at. There was another group over in the other corner of the tent-only field (they have another across the track for caravans) and they were chopping wood and having a great time but still very quiet.

We were next to an empty Yurt which they were setting up to rent for a very reasonable £50 per night (2 adults, 2 children.) That looks fab. The loos and shower room (male and female) were new and really clean, plus nice touches like paper towels and framed pictures on the wall! The shower and loo are some way out of the camping field down a track but marked by solar lights.

There is one outdoor sink for washing dishes- the tent site only has 10 pitches but I imagine it would be busy in summer.

There are lots of sheep, chickens and a couple of horses dotted around, the big fat chickens sat in a row on the fence by reception. The girls loved it, plus there is a rope swing for them to play on.

There is a small number of shops locally, visited for basics. The shops are about a 7 minute walk away (if you walk as fast as I do!)

We walked along the Cuckoo trail (around 7 miles there and back) This is a disused rail track, flat and pretty, great for the girls who both had bikes. We cut across a public footpath to a pub called 'The Rut in Tun' - they made us very welcome, lovely food and a kids menu. This is in or around Heathfield.

Back at the site after a pub lunch and good walk, they had a wine tasting session! Great white wines, young reds and lots of ciders that they make on the farm.

An excellent site, very nice owners, and I expect this will be inundated in the future so it was good to go out of season.

It was only £26 for two nights (2 adults, 2 kids) plus £5 per bag of firewood, we used 2 plus one of our own. We would return and walk the Cuckoo trail in the other direction!

Our favourite site ever. For those who want peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings with wildlife abound. This is the place for you. You will get a warm welcome from the owners David and Tamsin and their boys Ollie and Joe and the dog Furgus.
This is a working farm, orchard and vineyard and the wines and ciders available are an ideal treat in the evenings whilst their apple juice is the best we have ever tasted. They have many rare breeds of farm animals (the prettiest sheep we have ever seen). As you can see we are regular visitors and avid fans and are really looking forward to our next visit.
