Had a night here on drive down from Calais and same again on the way home. The site is perfect for a stopover, but not sure I would stay for an extended period simply because it doesn't seem a full holiday type of place. Very nice, clean site with big, easily accessible pitches. Nice bar and restaurant and there appeared to be a nice pool complex but we didn't use it. Sanitation blocks of a very good standard, particularly the new one which is quite something. The nearby Lake is particularly pleasant and we had an excellent meal in the restaurant next to it? We will use the site again

This was our third visit, and each time we notice the improvements that are being made.

The receptionists provide a warm welcome & speak excellent English. There is a small shop, bar & restaurant which provides quite tasty reasonably priced meals & wine. The bar terrace has comfortable shaded seating & overlooks the swimming pool complex. Please note in accordance with French law, the wearing of shorts for swimming is forbidden & 'Speedos' are the rule. Unfortunately some people do not comply, which is unfair to youngsters who have been asked to either change, or leave the pool. Free wifi is available in the bar/reception area.

We have only ever been given a large service pitch, but do agree that people tend to walk across the pitches.

As we were pitched near the older sanitaires, we used them once or twice, but it was worth the extra walk to visit the state of the art main block.

Everywhere was very clean & tidy. There was plenty to do both on the site & across the road at the huge manmade lake which had pedalos for hire & an area roped off for swimming. Not to mention the cycle paths & bird-watching opportunities.

We are on this site's at present together with my daughter and family. We have adjacent pitches, close to the smaller toilet block. Pitches have electric, water and drainage. Excellent as no filling of water or emptying waste. Good water area both indoors and out. Bar ok with telly for the footie. Food ok and not too expensive. Staff helpful, all in all a good sites to which we would return.

Tjis is an excellent site about 6 hours from Calais, so ideal as a stop-off on the way south or north. Not too far off the autoroute abeam Troyes (worthwhile to explore- medieval town). The site is set up fro families and has both indoor and outdoor pools, is next to a massive lake which we swam in, and has excellently clean facilities. One of the blocks is brand new (this season I reckoned). The staff were all excellent, efficient and friendly- very highly recommended!

Just back form 10 nights spent here the weather was very kind for the first week but did have a very nice storm over the weekend which dampened spirits a little!.

Anyway I found the reception staff very welcoming on arrival and they even helped my stumble through some francais before switch to English that they spoke very well and we were soon situated on our pitch which was number 13 fairly close to the pool and shower block which was handy, the pitch itself was fairly uneven which made pitching a little tricky thankfully I was prepared for the usual hard ground and managed sort it all out quick enough.

Then we did the usual explore around the site quick trip to the pool which has a couple slides that the little one enjoyed I would say the surface around the pool is in dire need of replacing its all broken up to a gravelly texture very uncomfortable on the feet, the indoor pool is nice however the jacuzzi bit at one end was never once on all holiday I can only assume it was non functioning.

Playground was good and the small amount of on site entertainment was good the little one enjoyed the evening 'kid dancing' and the Friday night dodgy french karaoke was an amusing listen.

The toilet block near us was sufficient however I would of expected a slightly higher standard given the 35 euros a night fee the hot water was certainly lacking and often had to do the dishes in cold water despite the site not being particularly busy.

Also we had some problems with people cutting across our pitch tripping over guidelines which was quite annoying, although the establishment is not to blame for peoples ignorance and laziness I did feel a couple or signposted walkways could have helped avoid this situation.

The lake was beautiful and literally on the sites doorstep, I enjoyed walking along it during an evening down the the ice cream shop (very nice too!) and it was pleasant to swim in and yes you can even build sand castles! it did get very busy though.

Locally Troyes is a very pretty place to visit and has a fantastic food market which was a little tricky to find (head for parking les halles which leads you underneath. Or cathedrale which is a short work away past the cathedrale itself ) took us several attempts but was worth it.

Very pricey though in a good location.

The site is easy to find beside the lake not far from the motorway, in a beautiful spot and a short distance to Troyes.

There was a lot that was good about this site, family friendly, clean, on site shop, bar and fast food, friendly staff and brand new showers and toilet facilities, all clean.

However the pitches were small, division between some was indistinguishable which could lead to some tensions and given the hot summer baked dry which made pitching a tent a real challenge.

We only stayed two nights which might be why we were given a less desirable pitch. Be wary of being pitched near the swimming pool and play areas as there was a lot of noise understandably, as this is a family site. However being woken by tots on the playground first thing or having your tots kept up in the evenings when the football started up with the teenagers can impact on the holiday experience.

Though I have since checked the website where it does state that swimming shorts are not allowed in the pool we missed this leading to disappointment. The on site shop does sell speedos however we thought 13 euros was some what pricey and taking advantage. We noticed a few frought parents having to fork out for some. The lake was clean and warmish for a swim with 'safe' swimming areas for the kids. You can also hire boats, some with onboard slides at reasonable prices.

If you have a campervan or motor home the acceptable thing seemed to be just to pitch for free by the lake.

A cheaper supermarket is a good 10 minute drive away in the next town and the local boulangerie 15 minute bike ride or 30 min walk.

Though a good location and some merits I am not sure our family thought this site justified the price in high season.

Just returned from a 12 night stay at this site. The 1st pitch we were given was too small, and after the 1st night decided to ask if we could move to a bigger one, which was no problem with the staff as we were staying so long. Be aware though that some pitches are small, we have a fairly large 6 man tent. There are 2 toilet blocks, the 1st smaller one is ok, kept clean, but older, the larger one, is excellent, nearly up to caravan club standards, including toilet seats, paper and soap, all of which are unusual in france!

Great swimming pools with slides for the kids. Good kids club, which hold daily games/activities that kids can just drop into if they feel like doing anything.

Did have some nightly entertainment, we had 3 nights of music/bands out of the 12, which stopped at 11. 00, was was quite loud. A lot of comings and goings, people only staying 1 night, but did not affect us. Nice mix of english/french and dutch people staying.

Opposite a lovely lake and beach, which you can walk, cycle along the promonade, nice marina to walk around at other end.

Visited mercier champayne cellars about an hours drive away, but worth the trip, tour of cellars on a train with english audio guide, but also english speaking tour guide, who was very informative, followed by tasting.

Also took the kids to Nigloland about half an hours drive from campsite. About half the price of disneyland, and a lot of the rides are similar, also have a log flume. Worth goiing if in the area for a long time.

All in all can't wait to go back next year, which we never do, but this has it all. However will ask for one of the pitches that we know are larger.

We used this as a stopover on our way South and ended up staying two nights. The lake just across the road was lovely to swim in and a great way for our two dogs to cool off. There was a grassy and wooded area just opposite the site to exercise the dogs too.

Didn't use the swimming pool (apart from having a go on the slides for a laugh!) but it was very pleasant with lots of sun loungers. The bar / cafe area overlooked the pool and was a great place to relax with the free wifi and research weather / where to head next. The staff were fantastic and the salad and chips we had for lunch v nice. There is a pizza restaurant across the road which has a stunning view and again v friendly staff, though the pizza was just ok.

Shop was tucked away but adequate and great for ordering morning baguette, croissants etc.

We had thunder storms / torrential rain on our second night and a couple of caravans got stuck but the site staff towed them out.

Toilets and showers etc all good.

Agree about the Mosquitoes though. Just got back from 2 weeks in France and it was the only place I got bitten!

Returned from Lac D'Orient after 7 nights at the end of August. First night we paid full price, other 6 nights were using camping cheques, paying for extra children. We were 2 mums on 2 pitches next to each other with 6 children aged from 5 to 16 between us. We enjoyed our stay here. We were pitched on pitches 112 and 113, close to the large toilet block. Flat, large pitches, very hard ground and stony, rock pegs definitely needed.

Although this is a large site it is reasonably quiet and doesn't seem over crowded, there were almost always washing up sinks, toilets and showers without queueing. They were cleaned regularly and the water was warm but could do with being a bit hotter when doing the washing up and the automatic taps are a bit of a pain when you're trying to fill your washing up bowl.

Swimming pools are a decent size with 3 slides, popular with all our children. All were quite cold although the inside one was warm in the actual room there was a very strong chlorine smell so I prefered the outdoor one. Plenty of sun loungers round the pool. Table tennis tables and multi-sports pitch available though the kids were too busy to use them.

Pizza and chips in the restaurant were reasonably priced and tasty. Free wifi used by the older children for their phones (Facebook and downloading Eastenders!) Wine tasting one evening we were there, honey tasting another, jewellery sale another night. The animations finished after our first night, from the programme that was posted on the wall it looked like they were quite busy with activities for most of the family during high season.

We had a bit of entertainment on one of our nights, there was a hornets nest in a hole in a tree just back from our pitches, two local firemen turned up with bee keeping suit, insecticide and bin bag and got rid of them, very impressive service.

Out of the 8 of us I was the only one who was bothered by midges, bitten all over my legs, interestingly, I was also the only one wearing insect repellant so figure that out!

The lake is just across the road from the site, the beach is nice and sandy and the water lovely and clear. Great for swimming in. On our second day there they took down the buoys that marked out the swimming area, guess it's only marked out at weekend/high season but it's still allowed. The lake bed slopes gradually and you can swim quite a way from the beach and still touch the floor. The older kids hired a pedalo for 15 euros for the hour. The younger kids and me enjoyed using their inflatables in the swimming area.

The village is very popular with motorhomes, there's an aire de camping car and they park up along the beachfront. Locals also took advantage of the lake after work. Wish we could do that at home.

Nigloland theme park is not far away from site, it's quite laid back for a theme park and even though there were lots of people there the queues were never very long, even for the scariest rides. There was a good combination of rides for all the family.

Supermarkets are a drive away from site though there is a small shop on site where you can order bread.

The countryside in the surrounding area goes from flat corn fields in one direction to Champagne vines on hillsides which is very pretty. We tried going for a tour round one of the champagne producers but their English speaking guide wasn't at work that day. We also went to the Royale Crystal factory but couldn't have a tour round the factory because they only make the crystal in the morning and their tours are in the mornings not afternoons, though the museum is interesting (especially with an inquisitive 5 year old in tow) though I don't recommend taking a 5 year old into the factory shop!

I'd have no hesitation in returning to Lac D'Orient again. Don't think I'd pay full price in high season, though with camping cheques out of season it is good value.

We stayed for 17 nights. Read all the recent reviews as they explain all that is important.

The surrounding area isn't mountainous, but rather rolling beautiful countryside and great for cycling.

One point to note is there are currently problems with heating water for washing up in the main facilities block. The owners were trying to arrange for this to be repaired, but getting trade people to do anything in France in August is difficult.

Well worth a visit.
