Nice site in nice location, well organised with clean facilities.

The field is flat and was not to muddy despite 1. 5' of rain during the night of our stay

However if you are thinking of taking your bike beware, we were cycle touring and had both our bikes stolen in the night, leaving us stranded. Locked gates to the site offer no protection or security.

I think this would be a lovely site in good weather. We did not have good weather and the grass was a little too long and some large puddles appeared near the amenities. On the plus side there's direct access to all the touristy features of Clumber Park and all the facilities that you would need. Also friendly wardens and amicable company from other campers.

However I cannot recommend it as we and 2 other families had our bikes stolen there. All were fully secured and it seems they knew exactly what they were looking for.

We'd gone purely to ride our bikes at Clumber Park and hence we had to come home early a bike short and cut our losses. We were literally only there 16hrs on what was supposed to be a brilliant birthday weekend trip.

It is clear the Clumber Park area has a problem with this sort of theft and we would have appreciated been warned before hand so that we could go bikeless or not at all. Our daughters bike was bought new 2 weeks ago and cost £350. We just would not have risked it.

I would not return even without bikes as the thought of people snooping around outside the tents while you're asleep is the stuff of nightmares.

My overall rating reflects my personal experience at this site.

Fabulous two night stay last week in a pod. Highly recommend at either of end of season when weather less predictable. Staff very helpful and toilet/shower block very close as well as immaculate. The pod has lighting heating and blind so are private. Great for kiddies, safe. Ten min walk to all facilities. Highly recommend this camp site and the bike hire too! Will definitely return next yr, its a must.

We first stayed here in Sept 2012 when the site was new and decided to go back for a short break recently.

The location is excellent, in the middle of the National Trust's bit on Clumber Park. You get free range of the NT parts that would cost £6. 50 a day to park your car in which is great considering that a mid week medium pitch is only £15 a night.

Beware if you don't like groups - they do allow them and there was a group of five tents when we were there - nice families with nice children but groups usually create more noise!

The site was quite noisy during the day, water fights, ball games, herds of children cycling around but it was like someone flicked a switch at about 9. 50pm and all was quiet for the 10pm deadline.

Pitches are very level as the site is on a flat grassy field. It is quite open and overlooks the NT BBQ area. They do seem to have planted a hedge but it will need a few years!

You can pitch where you like which sounds great and we usually go to places with unmarked pitches, however, here it isn't that great because a camper pitching in the middle of a big space might well cut the remaining available pitches along that side from 4 to 3 (because you would get another four in if the original camper had just left 7m rather than pitching in the middle). It would be really crowded if the site was up to capacity - unpleasantly so.

The facilities are still in the original portacabins (from when the site opened in 2012). Three loos and three showers in both the male/female blocks, my husband informs me that there is one urinal and two loos in the gents.

When we arrived there were 22 tents and 6 pods occupied. This was more or less a tent in every available space around the perimeter. How the facilities cope with this number of people I do not know but they are always clean and I always found a shower or loo free when I needed to without queuing. Free hot showers with a little cubicle outside the shower including the elusive fold down seat which is the shelf you always need and never have.

I think that you have to pay £10 for a card that gets you in and out of the barrier on the site if you want to take your car out. I presume you get it back at the end but can't say as we just walked and cycled when we were there.

The National Trust Cafe is open from 9am for breakfast (about a 10 minute walk) and is open all day until 5pm. We ate lunch there which was nice and reasonably priced (£16 for a light lunch for two adults). The NT gift shop (also open until 5pm) sells local beer and wine, chocolate which was nice as we drank more wine than anticipated!

In conclusion - not really us but the location is good for walking and cycling - a nice place to meet active friends for a couple of nights out of season.

Just got home from our 2 night camping break at Clumber Park. This was our first camping trip and we were taking our 2 dogs too.

The campsite was lovely. In a beautiful setting within the woodland and close to all the facilities of Clumber Park but far enough that you don't hear any cars or other noise. Having the dogs we preferred the woodland walks rather than going down to the gardens so the camp site was a good spot for this too.

When we arrived we were able to pick any spot we wanted on the field. Which ever spot you take though, you are always close to the water taps and the toilet, shower and washing facilities are close too.

The facilities were very good. Please don't be put off by the portakabins. I looked an thought 'oh no' but they were ever so clean. It was never busy, electric showers which were spotless. Fully stocked with toilet roll and soap. I was very impressed. There is also an area for washing up - 2 sinks so what more do you need.

Staff were very helpful too. Our next door neighbours were struggling to keep their tent up and the owner came over and helped them out, he let people pump up airbeds the sockets in his shop.

Overall we had a fantastic trip. The weather was fantastic and our dogs loved it too. We will definitely be returning.

*The only problem we had (probably our own fault) and worth remembering is that in order to leave the site you need a swipe card which is a refundable £10. We didn't know and came with no cash and there are no cash machines nearby which left us bit stuck but as I say, it's more our fault but it just didn't mention it on the website.

We camped over a Saturday and Sunday and enjoyed every minute of the campsite and Clumber Park itself. The main visitor centre with shops and a cafe is only a four minute walk away and the lake a further two minutes. The campsite was full on Saturday night because of a Race For Life and the atmosphere was really good. On Sunday we had only five tents for neighbours. The facilities look new and were kept spotless. There is no electric and it is tents only. The wardens could not have been more friendly and they keep a very useful well-stocked small shop with essentials in their wooden reception cabin. We are in our mid-60's. Children seemed to be very welcome and safe. In all, a really peaceful, picturesque, inexpensive site in a really beauty spot.

Stayed at this site for a weekend break as it's only 45mins from where I live.

You enter Clumber park and there are automatic gates which during the day are held open.

You do get a pass card to open these to allow any time access from the site and within the park itself.

The site is accessed via a barrier on arrival you have to beep the horn or hope the site warden sees you so he can come and open the barrier.

The track down to the office was very rutted and you need to drive VERY slowly unless you want to damage the bottom of the car!

The site itself is slopes down from the entrance to the office, nothing too steep though with two sides having trees providing shelter, with the other two sides having hedging.

The manager gives you useful information on where the sun is during the day and will let you go to your own pitch none of which are marked out, he just popped over and asked us to leave enough room between units.

The office is also the shop which as very small stock of items, Milk, cold drinks sweets and then usual camper basics shampoo, toiletries etc.

Next to the office are the two porta-cabins which are the toilet/shower facilities.

In the gents there is one urinal and 3 toilets along with 3 showers, just basic electric jobs, although you do have two controls, one for on/off and the other for temperature setting, although if another shower is in use the temperature does fluctuate.

You can order breakfast to be delivered to your pitch, there is an order form to fill in and left outside the office door by 8. 15

Your order will be delivered by 9. 00am

I didn't use it but I did see a bacon roll was £4. 00

While there the site I thought was quite busy but apparently not! the middle of the site was completely empty, when busy this gets completely full.

I was told there are 38 pitches, but can possibly go up to 40, if there were 3 or more people to a pitch I can see the toilet facilities becoming crowded.

There are many walks from the site and you can walk down to the visitor centre, it makes a very nice evening stroll, even when all closed.

It's not a strict site evidenced by kids shouting at each other well after 23. 00, luckily it didn't last too long.

It is a nice site though and for a short 2night stay does make the most of a weekend.

We only spent a couple of nights here - as an end of holiday camping trip before the children restart school etc.

The site was exactly what we needed, a simple field for the tent. It's a small sized site, but there was plenty of room for pitching the tent and loads of space for the children to run around, basic shop / information from the helpful stewards and great things near by. Clumber Park itself is really nice, and there was a 10% discount on bike hire from the facilities there.

Wash facilities were clean and the showers were hot. I would tell you about the washing up space but we went with my dad so didn't get a chance to wash up!

The price seemed high but I think maybe prices for camping are just higher than I expect now. They let us pitch my dad's small tent next to our large tent and only charged for one pitch. We, of course, had to pay for an extra car but I think if we'd had to pay for two pitches we might have looked elsewhere.

All in all - I would certainly recommend to others.

We stayed in Clumber in August 2013 for 2 nights with 2 small children, a dog and grandparents in the pitch 'next door'. We really loved the fact that you could pitch anywhere which was great. When we arrived we were greeted at the gate by the warden who was very friendly and helpful and told us which side of the field the sun rose which helped us in deciding where to pitch. The toilets and showers were very clean and within a couple of minutes walk from anywhere in the field and were also visible which meant the kids could walk to the toilets and back by themselves. They loved the independence and we didn't have to worry too much as we could keep our eye on them all of the time. Although we didn't use the service, you can order a cooked breakfast which are delivered to your tents the next morning which is a good idea. Because of the relatively low number of tent pitches the campsite was not overcrowded and had a really nice atmosphere. Clumber park and the walled garden are great to explore and are not to be missed. There are also wheelie bins with 'Giant Jenga' and other games for the kids and items such as kids scooters, bbqs and camping chairs could be borrowed free of charge should you forget anything. Amazing setting and will definitely return.
