Having read all the mainly positive reviews we were fairly confident we had picked a 1st class site.
It all started off well, communication was good and staff helpful and very friendly. On arrival we were greeted enthusiastically and all facilities were pointed out to us.
Unfortunately, overall we were disappointed with the general experience. Having hot taps that only work when you press them meaning you have to constantly hold them down to get the water out was not welcome! Moreover, equally frustrating when all the lights went out in the toilet block at around 10. 50pm, hardly the dead of night! How was I supposed to see what I was doing, this was not Carry on camping!
The play area consisted of some old, done in play house and one of those rocker things you find in parks. Kids were not sure if it was supposed to be a horse or a chicken as any colour and marking had faded away over many years of use. Anyway was not helped by being located on a very small piece of grass by the road, on a bend, so spent most of the time fretting one of the kids would get splattered.
More alarmingly, the site was awash with dogs and I am sorry to say dog mess! Clearly some of the owners could not be bothered to clear up and found it too convenient to let their dogs poo on spare pitches and even the borders of the play area. I have to admit some of this poo was from the animals there (it is a farm after all!) probably the goose and ducks, but sorry to report there was dog stuff going on as well.
Not sure if our kids had access to the barn or not. It certainly was not pointed out as a facility to us at the time. I am guessing this is just a Summer thing.
On a more positive note the owners have clearly done their best to filter out groups of drinkers and anti-social campers. There was no noise or disturbances on any of the nights.
In conclusion, the facilities for families anyway was not very impressive. There is nowhere for the kids to run around on site and the play area was grim as was the washing block. Really wanted this to be a good find as is usually the case on this website, but all went wrong this time.

Most of the things have already been said about this site so I can't add much.
The on-site staff worked tremendously hard throughout our 2 week visit having to cope with torrential rain and some localised flooding.
They did this admirable and were always there to offer help if needed. The site was kept as clean as could be under the very difficult circumstances.
Nearby Ritchies Diner serves up the best breakfast that I've had at a cafe.

We have just returned from 2 weeks holiday at this site. It was perfect. Has an almost continental feel about it, the site is segregated in to small areas surrounded by high hedges with approx five pitches to an area. This allowed privacy but not divorcing you from the rest of the campers.
Although we did not not use the site facilities much, they were always spotlessly clean although slightly outdated, showers work on a 20p slot meter.
Although attached to a main road the site is peaceful but on the flight path of the IOW airport, so there is some noise during the day from light aircraft, but we felt this added to the character of the site.
The converted barn in to a games room is an added bonus. Very reasonably priced during peak season with a small play area for under eights.
The dog walk is an adjoining field which is over run by rabbits, our dog loved chasing these, glad to say they were far to quick for him.
Overall a great base to tour the island with loads to do locally.

Wow! what a great time we had on the iow. Superb campsite, everyone was friendly and made us feel welcome. We stayed on may/june half term and the weather was HOT! Pitch sizes were more than adequate, had loads of room for our huge tent, car, trailer, washing line and kids to play! All facilities were clean and well maintained, my boys loved it that they could be safe to walk up to the barn and play pool, or table tennis.
No shop but ice pack exchange very good. There is a morrisons just down the road and found out nearer the end of our stay you could actually walk to it using the fields behind as no path down to the store!
The campsite itself was excellent, clean, tidy, no overgrown grass or hedge rows as some people have mentioned! cant keep all happy! But I will say showers were a little on the weak side! only 2 available in each block but did the job so cant complain!
The isle of Wight was a great place to visit, so much to see and do, 1 week wasn't long enough! we will def return next year, the fact that old barn booked the ferry crossing for us too was great, hassle free happy holiday! I would recommend lots of different places including black gang, Ryde and robin hill. The site was kid friendly, dog friendly and I would def recommend. Thank you all for a lovely stay and hope to see you next year!

We came with friends, & booked in a hurry, which didn't worry the wardens who made every effort to accommodate us. We had a late ferry back - they were kind enough to let us park our trailer on site while we went out - thanks.
The camp/ferry package is very handy - we saved a tidy sum.
The wardens were very accessible, helpful, friendly and hard working. It shows. The facilities were spotless and well maintained at all times.
They dealt firmly and effectively with a couple of likely lads wandering by the site. That besides nobody else disturbed the peace - at all.
Hookups,
Washups,
Showers (20p) and loos,
Laundry room,
Water supply,
Small Playground,
Games room in Barn,
Waste Facilities - all more than up to scratch.
Arriving and leaving - smooth and stress-free.
The site well located for shops, pubs and attractions, but quiet and private. There is a road nearby, and the occasional light aircraft takeoff/landing - all unobtrusive.
Our field was sheltered - very welcome on the night campers on other sites had a 'Dorothy experience' in high winds. Bring some hard ground pegs though (there's a well stocked camping shop in Lake).
The walk through the 'daisy field' and woods is heartily recommended esp. At sunset.
We'll be back. For my wife, a former campingphobic - that's something!

Being new to camping I was very apprehensive about what the site would be like would the toilets and showers be clean, would it be noisy, how close would we be to other tents.
Well I needn't have worried the toilets and showers were exceptionally clean, only noise was from the local wildlife and we had a huge pitch with electric hook up if we wanted it. As we had no children with us we cannot comment on the facilities for them.
We were made to feel very welcome and the experience has definitely made me want to go camping again. Had a great meal at The Fighting Cocks down the road, Morrisions not very far away so we were able to shop
The only downside of the whole trip was the Isle of Wight itself we were so disappointed with what it has to offer. A lot of shops, pubs, cafes etc. boarded up, the whole place looks as though it needs a huge injection of cash.
The only thing that made the trip worthwhile, apart from the great camp site, was our visit to the Roman Villa.
I don't think the local council have heard of signposts we saw only two on the way to the Roman Villa and they were about 500 yards away from the entrance.
If I could pick this site up and put it somewhere else I would go camping every weekend, but I now have a dilemma has The Old Barn spoilt me for other campsites and will I be forever comparing them to it!

I organised a Rally for 20 motor homes over 7 days at Old Barn Touring Park.
The facilities of toilets, showers, electric and waste disposal are excellent. The added facility of the barn proved useful and could have been invaluable if the weather had been bad. We used as a Quiz venue but table tennis and pool are available.
Lesley advised us of a place for a meal and we chose the Fighting Cocks who bent over backwards to give us good service at reasonable cost. There are other venues at similar distance a couple of miles from site.
We also used Southern Vectis for a round the island tour with Ron as our guide.
During our stay we walked Wroxall Down from site and cycled to Newport down the cycleway.
We visited the Garlic Farm and Osborn House.
The Wardens on site maintained a healthy interest in our programme and helped at every turn. Highly Recommended for a fantastic stay!

We have just spend a very enjoyable 5 nights at this site. We were greeted with a very warm friendly welcome and had a choice of pitches which all seemed to be very spacious although on a very slight incline which is no problem if you have wheel ramps. This is a very quiet site and does not have any facilities other than the reception, toilet block, showers, washing up, and chemical toilet disposal, all of which were very clean. There are only 2 showers (which we did not find a problem) requiring 20p in both the ladies and mens and the time you get is more than adequate, the ladies also has 5 private wash rooms. There is also a small play area for children, The site is also on a bus route which goes into quite a lot of the towns/villages.
The lack of amenities is not a problem as it is only about half a mile from Sandown which has the usual pubs, restaurants etc. There is also large Morrisons only a quater of a mile away which also sells petrol.
The wardens are more than helpful and very friendly and if we go back to the IOW we will certainly be using this site again.

Wonderful campsite, the wardens Stuart & Alison could not have been more welcoming. The facilities were of a high standard the showers and toilets were very clean and well maintained.
We camped in the lower field by the pond which was a lovely pitch. The site is handy for Shanklin with a supermarket very close by.
A special treat was the fresh asparagus that Stuart provided us with! Will be back again.

We have been coming to Old Barn for the last three years so I thought it was about time to add our review of this first rate site. We have looked around other sites including the excellent Whitefield Forest, but here you are always made so welcome, we have already booked in advance for 2011, along with our neighbours for whom it will be their 7th year.
The other reviews have been very accurate, except for the one where the shower water was too hot - I found them a little on the cold side! Also in peak season when all showers are in use the pressure can be lacking somewhat, but otherwise the facilities are in excellent condition and are spotlessly clean. We have got to know the wardens extremely well. You couldn't get a more friendly, helpful couple. The owners are very fortunate to have them.
Mobile broadband by 3 is poor here. TV lovers also will need to choose their pitch with care. I was tried for hours to get satellite reception this year where it was fine on the same pitch last year. Moving to the onboard Status aerial, I was unable to get Freeview either, and on analogue, only BBC1 was watchable. Our pitch was halfway down the hill and opposite the shower block. The main problem is the unkempt hedges which seem to get ever higher. Some may like the privacy that these afford, but when David Bellamy approved this site, he must have disapproved of the use of hedge trimming equipment. I had fears about my van being scratched getting it offsite as some hedges have outgrowths of brambles within them.
The pond area is completely safe and fenced off for adults and children alike. We love the occasional visits by the geese. The site is very dog friendly with direct access to fields and woods making for a dog paradise. The airfield
Has never been a problem and depending on the wind direction, if the planes come in to land from over the site they make no noise at all.
We have found that this site is extremely popular with campers. Maybe the % ratio is 50/30/20, tourers/campers/motorhomes this year. All pitches have EHU, and the superpitches have their own water and waste points. The bottom field only has EHU on one side.
