4 pennant AA rating. All pitches with EHU. Quiet policy after 11 pm, which was well observed. Nice family site with generous pitches. Large family bathroom but you need tokens for this, also laundry area with 2 washers and a dryer, also needs tokens -£2 worth to do a full wash and £1 gives 70 minutes drying. There are only 2 showers in the ladies and 2 in the gents, 20p for three minutes, so if you have long hair or are particularly mucky you'll need 40p. Ladies - avoid showering in peak times if you can as apparently the ladies is last on the water system so is the first to lose pressure. Also the shower on the left is set up for tall people, I'm only 5' 2' and the jet was fixed to go over my head and hit the opposite wall in that one. All facilities clean and tidy, though a quick run through with a sweeping brush now and then to dislodge the spider webs in the roof area wouldn't go amiss. The wardens are very friendly and helpful and the whole site is kept very neat and tidy.
The play area for under 8's is right by the washing up room (2 sinks for pots, 2 for clothes) which is handy for them to play while mum and dad wash up, but also right by the road - the limit is 5 mph on site but we did see some kids run straight out from the camping bays which are hedged, straight into the road without looking, and again run into the road coming off the play area.
Most of the pitches are in hedged bays, which makes it very sheltered, unless you are in the bottom field by the pond, which is a little more open. Its on the main dogwalkers route and the geese and cockerel can be heard often. Didn't bother us, but if you want a lie in don't take pitch 54 and up.
There is a small airport with light aircraft nearby, but even though the campsite is only 1 field away there are not enough planes to be intrusive, the main times they take off are between 5 -6 pm and I quite liked watching them. You won't be woken by aircraft noise.
The entrance to the site is on the main Sandown/\Newport road, the sign says Cheverton Farm and is easily missed especially if you are coming from Newport, the entrance is on the left just before the Garden Centre on the right, and is not lit up at night. If you are pitched at this end of the site there is some road noise.
There was a fish and chip van on site on a Wednesday, lovely fish supper for around £4.
Morrisons supermarket is just down the road, cheapest fuel on the island. Sandown and its quieter neighbour, Shanklin are within 5 - 10 minutes drive with lovely sandy beaches. Plenty of attractions to interest everyone, though I was a little disappointed with the lights in Shanklin Chine, not so much fairy lights as ill concealed coloured fluorescent lights, next time I'll go in the daytime.
Overall a great campsite, no frills, no clubhouse or swimming pool, just a nice relaxing base handily placed to visit the main resorts.
Re ferries, we got the Wightlink Nightflyer return which was £47.50. We would definitely return to this site if we holiday on the IOW again.

Just spent a fantastic week at the Old Barn Touring Campsite. We arrived a little earlier but were told that they would be as quick as possible, and they were. We only had to wait ten minutes before being guided to our pitch. Loads of space on the pitch and no limits on having a pup tent or anything so long as it was in the pitch. Electric hook up on most pitches. Wash block was within a minutes walk and was always kept clean and tidy. Showers 20p each, which was manageable but for a good soak, 40p didn't seem too bad. The little one with us thought the park was brilliant and made lots of friends. The pond was very nice to look at and the geese weren't too noisy. In fact, it seemed like the geese and the cockerels liked a lie in most mornings. Morrisons just down the road and a whole host of pubs nearby that served excellent food, The White Lion and The Fighting Cocks just two to mention. Would definitely go back again and the fact that the will book the ferry for you takes all the hassle out of things! Very handy site to go all round the island discovering it's many joys.

My family and I camped here for a week recently, we enjoyed the Isle of Wight and the location of this campsite, but for us the pitch that we had was disappointing. Some of the pitches have hedges all round them, which I don't mind, but when we stayed the hedges looked a bit overgrown so you felt quite hemmed in. Some pitches have room for 1 tent and others they vary. Also some of the pitches are near the duck pond, but again even though this is a very pretty area to pitch your tent, there were quite a few tents etc quite close together. At least they didn't have the tall hedges in front of them to contend with. Our pitch would have been fine for a 2 man tent, but when you have a family size tent, there was no room outside the tent and no view, only the hedge. Also as everyone has a car the car has to be parked just outside your pitch and we was definitely hemmed in then!
The showers as mentioned in other reviews are 20p. Only two showers in the ladies and queues in the morning, but not too bad.
The managers on site are very helpful and welcoming and check with you regularly that all is well.
Location as mentioned before is good but on a busy road that takes you either left into Sandown or right into Shanklin. Morrisons 2 minute drive, but if you can't obide sitting in long traffice congestion, there is a footpath immediately as you come out of the campsite and it takes 10 minutes to walk to Morrisons.
All in all we did have a lovely stay, but for us we prefer camping with more space and better views. Though I do appreciate that some of the pitches here do have these.

We spent a very relaxed and peaceful 8 days at this site. It was lovely being able to watch the rabbits and birds from the tent. There is an airport very close to the site, but we never found the noise a problem. Judith and Harry were very welcoming and friendly, Harry showed us to our pitch and even came around one morning to check all was well after a particularly blustery night.
The site was not busy, although there were others there, the hedging layout allowed for a good deal of privacy and shelter. EHU is available on every pitch (we did not have it) and water was only a 10 second walk away. We were on pitch 41, and this was only a 30 second walk to the toilets / showers / family room / washing up and laundry facilities. I don't think it would take longer than a minute to walk to the loos from any of the pitches on site. The toilet and shower block had 5/6 loos, 5/6 basins in locking cubicles, 2 showers (20p - I needed 40p to completely shower and wash hair), a hairdrier and a separate electric socket and separate hand basin. (This was in the ladies, husband said the gents was much the same, but minus the hairdrier!) The area was kept clean and the bins were emptied regularly. The showers were fairly spacious and had a bench and plenty of hooks.
Near to the toilet block is a very small area, with a couple of children's rockers and a small hut, for children to play in. This area is not fenced, so small children would need to be watched as the road is very close, a large pond is nearby, so take care with children.
What I will say about the showers (and all the hot water taps) however, is that they were almost scalding hot. I would be very, very wary of letting a child use them, as there is no way of regulating the temperature. I did speak to Judith about this and Harry turned them down (not for long though). I imagine as the site becomes more busy and more people use them then they will cool down, but probably not first thing in the morning.
The washing up area was very good - 2 sinks, washing up bowls and drying racks were available. This area also had 2 separate sinks for clothes washing. The laundry (which I didn't use) looked well stocked, with a couple of washing machines, tumble drier and iron. I just peeked into the family room and it looked as well kept and clean as everywhere else.
The games room (which Judith opened up specially for us - thank you) had a TV (couldn't find a remote, so we were stuck with BBC1) a table tennis table and a couple of pool tables. It also had a well stocked bookshelf.
Old Barn is well situated for exploring the IOW, and the SatNav found it easily. A couple of minutes down the road, by car (15 on foot), is a large Morrisons and in the industrial estate opposite Morrisons we found a camping shop where we were able to buy gas cartridges. We would recommend The White Lion in Arreton for an evening meal, lovely food and atmosphere.
All in all we had a lovely relaxing holiday here and would not hesitate to recommend Old Barn---Just watch that Hot Water.

Old Barn Touring was a real hit with the family when you visited in 2008.
The first impression was dulled by the continuous flight of various light aircraft from a local airfield, however once the trailer was pitched and settled, the aircraft just paled into insignificance so don't allow reviews to put you off.
The pitch sizes were very generous with hook up supplied and the washing/toilet facilities were excellent and clean.
The owners were thoroughly helpful and very welcoming. The site provided a package deal whereby the booking included the ferry crossing and this allowed them to make sure all was ready for arrival.
As mentioned by a previous post, the playing area could do with a slightly better location; this is the only criticism of the site.
Once on site, it seems you're in the middle of no-where, but the reality is that you're ideally placed for touring the Isle of Wight with plenty of amenities close to hand.
An excellent site and one on or list for re-visiting.

Brilliant campsite! Judith & Harry who manage the campsite were lovely and very helpful. We travelled across from the mainland and ferry was booked through the campsite. Upon arrival we were shown immediately to our pitches (2 families with 2 very large tents!) there was adequate space for all our things including trailers, day tent and cars. The children made use of the games room, (situated in an old barn!, photos of conversion available to see), table tennis (take your own bats if you can), pool table x 2 (50p per game), tv and outdoor draughts and chess! Books available from the games room to borrow with a small donation made. Toilet blocks cleaned regularly by Judith, 20p charge for very hot showers, only 2 available so sometimes a queue! washing machine and tumble dryer used on a token basis which were available from reception, £2.00 for a wash & £1.00 for a 60 min dry. Lovely pond with some noisy geese but only when Harry fed them! small play area for small children, but is not enclosed. No shop on site but a large Morrisons 5 mins down the road, open until 10pm, breakfast available.Petrol station at Morrisons. Old Barn Touring is located on the main road (quite busy at times) to Sandown and Shanklin and is within easy rach of most of the tourist attractions. Buses available and bus stop 5 mins from campsite. We will definitely be going back.

We have just stayed at this site for the main 2 weeks of our holiday.
The site offers a package deal to include your pitch and the ferry crossings as an all in price which was really handy.
Overall the site was ideal for our stay there with large enough multi service pitches available in secluded areas of the site. One of our party ended up being pitched up on what we considered a tent pitch in the lower field which made getting the van on and off the pitch a bit of an effort.
Facilities on site were clean and adequate with there being a 20p charge for the shower.
On a negative note I thought the kids play area would have been better located on site as it was next to the roadway on site and not fenced off, We had a few instances where kids chasing footballs had ran out in front of our car without looking first.
Wardens on site were very friendly and most helpful when moving caravan onto our pitches when we arrived. Because they book the ferries they know what time you are arriving and seem to be ready to take you straight to your pitch on arrival.
This site is in a very good location on the island to be able to get to the main tourist sites quickly and easily and still enjoy a bit of peace and quiet when needed.
For day to day shopping there is a Morrisons close by and a great garden centre opposite that serves some really good food.
For the price that we had paid I would certainly use this site again.

A superb site would definitely go back again, wardens were so helpful and friendly. Toilets and showers very clean. Ample space for tent. We have a six year old and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The campsite is in a very good location, 10 min drive to beach, a very good supermarket.
Cockerels weren't too noisy in fact you could set your watch by them! most enjoyable holiday! going back next year!

Small, family friendly site which we would certainly go back to again. The wardens were extremely welcoming and helpful too.
The pitch was a good size and despite being next to the toilet block we never felt that noise was an issue. The toilet and shower block were cleaned daily and I never had to queue. Showers require a 20p and were hot and give sufficient time to shower properly.
The only initial downside were the 2 cockerels that started crowing each morning at 5am. I actually quite liked it but not sure my wife would agree.
Location is very handy for both Sandown and Shanklin with a Morrissons supermarket 200 yards down the road.

A very nice site with small areas separated by hedges. We were luckily put low down near the wood as the weather was terrible the first 2 days and some people left. The owner came round a few times and called out "are you ok in there?", a considerate touch as he must have got wet. Easy access, handy for Morrison's. I think it could either do with a large sign saying "Old Barn", or the name on here and in the books changed to Cheverton farm, which is what the sign says.
