What a fantastic site. Rural retreat. Fishing on site. Amazing host (Vic), nothing is too much trouble.
Clean facilities, loads of space.
We will most definitely be back.

This site has a lot of positive features. The area for tents although sloping gradually is fairly even. The toilet/shower facilities are better than most campsites we have been to.
The owners, Vic and Julie together with their seasonal help, Jenny, made our stay, not just enjoyable, but they went the extra mile to make it really good.
We had a mishap on arrival when my wife, Anna, discovered she had lost her handbag. Julie was helpful and understanding and it was quickly located and retrieved from a pub we had visited for lunch.
Also, the evenings were quite cool and we were able to borrow a chiminea to keep us warm with glowing logs while we sipped wine and did crosswords - marvellous!
There is a barn owl nesting nearby which was another unexpected bonus for a keen birdwatcher. All in all, I would have no hesitation in recommending this site for camping in a tent and we hope to return soon.

Stayed on this site as we were visiting family living locally. This is a quiet site in lovely surroundings midway between Belper and Ashbourne.
Although the shower and toilet block is modern, and was clean when we arrived on Friday, it did not seem to be cleaned over the weekend we were there, so I'm afraid I can't agree with the reviewers who say they are the cleanest campsite facilities they have ever used!
Fishing is available at £5 a day, but well worth it as there are two very well stocked lakes with plenty of carp to be caught- my husband loved it!

Arrived at around 11am on the Friday, gated entrance with phone number to ring for code.
Owners had gone to a wedding so never seen them.
Couple that booked us in where on a seasonal pitch and where very nice.
we were put on a hard standing and told to pitch anyway we liked.
Dog was allowed to be off lead, which was great, but kept him on around the lakes because of wild life.
Lakes are smaller than on photos, and seemed to have plenty of fish in.
Toilets showers where cleanest I have seen on a campsite in years. And where kept that way over the weekend as well.
Little shop on site for basic needs, not far from Ashbourne and Belper, so main shop can be done local.
A lot of seasonal pitchers on site and they all keep there areas nice and tidy, which is a credit to the site.
All in all we will be going back as only 18 mile from home. Site seems to be doing ongoing improvement, so work is always in progress, which is a good thing.
As stated before, if you don't know the local roads, then best to arrive via the A52.

Exceptional owners. We were made to feel like family from the beginning. Extremely accommodating, and would highly recommend. Just go there. Don't waste time looking at other places, we did, and it's pretty awful the quality when compared to these people

Spent a lovely week here just after Easter. The staff and owners could not have been more helpful, Storm Katie the week prior to our visit had left the ground very wet, and our caravan sank into the ground, we were quickly moved and parked on the hardstanding of the road, this worked very well.
A nice and quiet site, with a lovely lake for fishing, great showers and toilet facilities, and a Wifi hotspot added the week we arrived. Our 2 children 7 and 8 had access to the field to run around in, and the fishing, which was fruitful every day we went.
A good central location for exploring the Derbyshire countryside.
The Railway Pub does a great Carvery all week for 6. 95 kids eat free, and The Tiger Pub also provides great value, 2 adults 2 kids all for 20. 00 inc drinks.
We visited The Heights of Abraham at Matlock Bath, there is also a Gulliver's Theme Park there, we just didn't get to it. Matlock dubbed the Seaside of Derby is lovely, with Fish and Chips, Arcades and Ice Cream, and the constant arrival and departure of Motorbikes. Parking was notoriously difficult however each time we visited, I would recommend an early arrival for this.
Belper, the next town, also has plenty of facilities, including a wonderful GP surgery, which unfortunately we had to use, but they were exceptionally helpful.
The sights and scenery is lovely, coming from the Fens where everything is Flat and Straight, the hills and curves were a revelation, we would however recommend coming to the Campsite via the A52, not from Belper.
Definitely a campsite we will be returning to, as even with illness we all still had a wonderful time here, and found everyone to be so accommodating, and the facilities great.

We stayed at blackbrook lodge for two nights last week and we can't fault it one bit. We stayed in the tent field with EHU. The tent field is on a slight slope, but completely flat, so no lumps and bumps to have to sleep on.
We used the new shower block and washing up facilities. Absolutely gorgeous! Water was lovely and hot, the shower areas were clean and warm, with shower soap even provided. There's a small shop waiting to be stocked on site too, which we're told will be selling necessities. Eggs, milk etc.
Most of the pitches are seasonal. This means waking up to the lovely lake wasn't an option, however it was just a stones throw away from the tent field, so I won't grumble.
It was lovely to wake up to such a beautiful setting. Walking the dog around the site at 7. A. M was a delight, it's lovely to see the geese roaming about and also for our dog to be made so welcome. Vic had no problem at all with her exploring off the lead.
We will 100% stay at blackbrook lodge again when we return to Derby. It was so so peaceful, the owners male you feel at home and do their very best to accommodate you and the site is lovely!

I rang a few days before our visit and Julie could fit us in no problem. Stayed with caravan with youngest son in his tent at no extra cost. Could pitch wherever we wanted, nice and quiet campsite, hubby enjoyed sitting round fishing ponds while I cooked. Toilet and showers was basic, but very clean, new building in progress. Morrisons about 10/15 min drive into Belper. Julie and Vic couldn't do enough for you, always willing to stop and chat with you, we were booked in Sunday to Sunday, but asked to stay an extra night, that was no problem. Will go back again.

Loved this site. Very friendly. Excellent hosts in Julie and Vic.
Three toilets and one shower for the ladies - same for the guys. No pot washing facility. The camping field has a slight slope, EHU available. Fishing lake was quite busy. A lovely pub nearby (The Tiger) that is dog friendly and does nice food. There is a path over the field apparently, but we didn't find it (another couple on the site did though!). Selling point for me. Well behaved and controllable dogs do NOT have to be tethered! Not one piece of dog muck was to be found either. New shower/toilet facilities under construction. Will definitely return!
