We were originally headed for another campsite but after a long drive and it getting on for 9pm we decided to stop at the first site we came to and Steart Farm it was.
We had a lovely friendly welcome and our choice of pitches. At £14 a night it's not too expensive.
The play area is great for kids, the toilet block is clean but we didn't use the showers.
The owners are very friendly and helpful.
There is lots to do within walking distance - the beach, through the woods, or up the hill into some small towns.
Only downside is it's on a very busy road (A39)so you can't walk anywhere but the footpaths on and opposite the site, but the driveway is long and the fields set well back so you don't hear any noise. Views of the bay are gorgeous and there is plenty to do within driving distance. We were told the Big Sheep is good for kids but didn't get a chance to try it out.
You can also use the facilities at a local swimming pool for £5 but again we didn't have time to try it out.
A very pleasant stay, we would definitely recommend it.

We have just enjoyed 7 nights on this lovely site. There is now a nice drive way leading up to site,no pot holes. Nice warm welcome. The site is divided into different areas, we were in the Burrows which is split into 3 levels. The top level which we were on was for caravans and motor homes. We had fantastic views over Bideford Bay. The only problem with our pitch was we had to throw our electric cable over a large hedge to plug it into the socket in next field, I thought this was a bit risky as there were caravans on both sides of hedge. The pitches are a good size. The 2 toilet and shower blocks are kept clean. Children have a very large field to play ball games in and there is also play equipment. Dogs also have a huge fenced in field. Try the cream teas at Stoke Barton Farm they are delicious (near Hartland Quay.) Also The Coach and Horses (Hornes Cross) serves good food at a fair price. Excellent value for money.

We have just returned from a 9 night stay at this site and have no complaints what-so-ever. The site is tidy and well maintained, and the showers / loos etc were clean and more than adequate. The owners and staff (he on the tractor in particular) were all friendly and very helpful, with nothing being too much trouble for them. As with any campsite, rain will always cause slight inconvenience, but both our first and last days were wet, but didn't cause any problems. The view from the 'Burrows' is just superb, both to sit and look at whilst enjoying a bbq, or to open your door and see first thing in the morning.
The walk down from the site to Bucks Mills, although fairly steep (and muddy in the wet) is well worth it if you want to see a small coastal village (with no pub, shop etc). The beach (as advertised in the free brochure given when arriving) is a surprise if visited at low tide.
The only thing that some may not like is that there is no pub or shop within easy (safe) walking distance. But the ease of driving to the many places around, more than makes up for this. When comparing this site to many that we have stayed at, this one offers amazing value for your money.

We have been visiting this site for many years. It is fantastic!
We always go for a pitch on the burrows and the views are simply spectacular. The site is very well run with very friendly owners.
The toilet block is exceptionally clean and has everything that a camper would want.
The play area is excellent and there are recent additions.
Great walk down to the beach - atmospheric and stunningly beautiful. The beach has pockets of sand, lots of rocks and some great rockpools.

We spent two nights at Steart Farm and it was our first ever foray into camping. We were incredibly lucky with the weather which probably makes a big difference to any review. Our pitch in middle burrows was perfect with a view across the coast. Everyone was very friendly and it was a fantastic campsite for all ages and especially children. Amazing, steep walk down to the tiny village below that you need to be very fit for but rewarded by a glimpse of a roe deer. Lovely owl sounds at night and very peaceful on our first night.
Facilities were good and clean. The new block was great but we used the old block simply because it was always free! Every mod con you could wish for.

Lovely site, great views across Bideford bay. We had a very friendly and helpful welcome from the owners,
Very good price for a pitch, two adults, campervan, awning and electric £14 and no charge for dogs.
The weather was dreadful, nearly two days of heavy rain but the pitch held up very well.
The site has a very nice dog walk, with newly planted trees and they have mowed walks around.
The toilet block was very clean.
If we go back to this part of the country again, we will be heading back to this site.

We loved the campsite here despite the appalling weather. We were very tempted to go home- but the site and surrounding villages were lovely. We spent a day at Clovelly, Instow and Appledore.
The shower block was very nice and clean- although the week we were there the path was very wet and muddy (understandable in the torrential rain).
The owners were lovely and they'd used years of their own camping experience to install lots of great facilities.

As said before the facilities on this site are excellent, spanking new and ultra clean. Place was virtually deserted, several regulars but disappointingly for the owners, underused considering the advanced weather outlook. Pitches are mixed, level and irregular, all around the site, but plenty of space per pitch. Could do with a larger sign more visible from the road. Playground is large with a few kids things on [too old now!]
Pub down the road [hoops?] good selection of keg beers @ £2:65, mainly local, and good selection of food, [beer flavoured battered fish and fries, struggled to eat it, large fish,£10:00 good value. Shopping [for her] Atlantic village near Bideford, also large asda on the same site.
Noise from the A39 is noticeable late evening and early mornings when all is quiet on site [I tend to hear a mouse at the best of times, so might be me being over sensitive with the hearing] Would use it again if in the area @ £21:00 for two with leccie for two nights

We have been going to the site for 11 years since it first opened, because of the fantastic position, friendly owners, good facilities and prices about half anywhere else. I'm sorry 'mob handed' got put off by conditions, if the rain is not continuous, as it was this year, the ground dries quite quickly. While we were there the owner put down lots of gravel where cars had got stuck. It would not be appropriate to have put it on the tent pitches for obvious reasons. It can't have been easy for the owners to cope with the conditions, they must have had to turn lots of disappointed families away. You would not have found any campsite in the area where things would have been better, a lot worse, possibly.
As far as we're concerned, Steart Farm is our favourite campsite ever, and we will be going back. They don't even charge for dogs and provide a lovely dog exercise field with lots of lovely trees

After reading the reviews on this site I thought I must pay it a visit.
We arrived on a very wet early evening and struggled to put the tent up between us.But we did it.
The spot we should have had was too small due to a caravan being over the boundary line, so the owners kindly ran an electric hook up for us into an overspill field, which we thought was going to be great as we were virtually on our own there. Then we realised why, on a hill and open to the elements to say the least!
The weather wasn't the best, lots of rain and strong winds, lost our gazebo on the second night, then the wind breaker the next! but we struggled on and made the most of it.
The site was extremely muddy in parts and quite dangerous to be honest, the showers started off clean, but inconsiderate people who walked into the shower block with thick muddy boots made it quite unpleasant for the rest of us, they were cleaned during the day, but the poor woman cleaning them was in a no win situation! The lady owner was quite pleasant, but her husband never seemed to be happy, would walk past and not even say hello or good morning, which we found strange as most people staying there were so friendly, plus going by previous reviews surprised us. Very pretty part of the country, but we wouldn't go back to steart Farm i'm afraid. Too hilly for tents, too open, and condition of grounds in wet weather very poor, not a lot can be done about the weather we know but shingle could have been put down in certain areas, there was huge mounds of it within the premises.
The other down side is that the original shower block in another part of the site was in very poor condition, so people used the three showers in the new block instead, and because it was free hot showers you got the very inconsiderate people that took up to 25 minutes to shower! knowing that people were waiting outside, two women in particular drove us all mad, everyone was complaining!
