The four of us (2 adults and two children under 6) have just returned from a very wet, very windy 10 nights at Widend.

The pitch we had was extremely spacious, just next to the playground which unfortunately, due to the weather wasn't used very much. The tent area is situated right next to what you would think is a quite country road - not so! I think it is used by the local boys racers as their race track. Extremely noisy all night long! Quite noisy neighbours as well and had to be asked (on more than one occassion) to be quiet!

Other than that, cannot fault the campsite. Lovely warm outdoor pool, which was fun in the rain! Club to go to in the evenings (and we needed it!) which had entertainment on most nights. Also a games room. The staff were fantastic and couldn't have been more helpful. Money off vouchers available for most tourist attractions which were all within an easy drive (the furthest was 1/2 hour). The shop and office open till seven most nights. The toilets and showers extremely clean and very spacious - never any queues.

The tent area is quite susceptible to the winds and unfortunately, some of our poles did not survive!

On the whole (apart from the weather) which we cannot do anything about, the holiday was a great one and if we decide to go to the 'English Riviera' again, would certainly look up Widend.

 Very pleased with the site.

Toilets, wash areas were always very clean and tidy. They were central for all, but maybe annoying that tents were on the perimeter of the site and they are ones faced with longest walk to centre (i.E. Caravans would have their own toilet and are the closest). An issue when faced with torrential rain and taking kids to loo!

Owners were lovely and friendly. Very helful and willing to recommend. Good discount couchers available there too for local attractions. I liked the little golf buggy that led you to your pitch. Well organised, pitches majority level and very well kept.

Good playground for kids and bar on site. Outdoor heated pool always warm. Wash up facilities, laundry room, shop, take away food if wanted. Good facilities.

We were sited next to road and we did get a bit of traffic noise at night, but after day or two got over that and didn't notice.

Would recommend site and if down in Devon would go back.

 Just had a weeks holiday in a tent with family - 2 adults & 2 kids 12 & 14.

Cannot think of any cleaner toilets, showers or washing up area. Toilets had a sign saying shut from 11.00 till 1.00 but the sinks and loos were cleaned and wiped every 2 hours!

Staff as friendly as you want

Swimming pool clean and warm

Prices cheapest (in my opinion) in the whole of Devon and Cornwall for the Peak Season £22.50 for tent 2 adults 2 kids and electric per night

Grumbles - none - a few wasps but apart from that fine

Pitch huge!

Torquay - 15 minute drive. Paignton 10 minutes. Totnes 10 minutes. Newton Abbot 20 minutes.

Trains - chrap as chips - 2 adults & 2 kids to Exeter £15, to Plymouth £17.50.

Been back a couple of times to this site and have always stayed on Moorview which has excellent views of the valley but can be extremely unprotected from the winds when the weather is bad! Trust me our trailer tent has experienced several days of wind and rain this Spring Bank.

The toilets which serve this area are better in my opinion and more up to date that the ones near the pool, this year we had to queue for shower in the mornings which we haven't had to do before. Think they are catering more towards the caravaners and season pitch holders rather than the campers.

The pool is always clean and the pub has a nice atomosphere and the staff are always very friendly and extremley helpful. Its an ideal base for getting around Torbay and make use of all the discount tickets you get from reception.

Very reasonable prices for over all an excellent clean site.

Site was very clean, they even mowed the grass on our pitch when we pulled up.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

There's a good park for the kids and the swimming pool is warm all year round but does tend to get a little busy during peak season.

We could only find a few downsides which are:

The location is down a very, very narrow lane with stone walls either side and there were quite a few scratches down a few vehicles that had not judged the distance very well. Please be aware that if you are looking it up on a map that it is on the OLD Totnes road and not the main one (which has all the buses etc). We were told that they had an agreed price with a local taxi firm but when we used it they charged us a completely different (more) fee.

The pitch also ended up like a quagmire after (what in fairness) was an extremly heavy weather week, this also coupled with the fact that the tent pitches were on slopes didn't help.

Even with all the above we would go back (allbeit not our first choice).

The only thing we WOULD complain about is the showers. I have seen iceicles drip water quicker. And longer. And warmer!

It IS a very clean and nice site but the tenters among us need to know that this is a site that needs good equipment in bad weather. The bins were full of lovely tents. That did not stand up to the high winds and rain that we had encountered.

Don't let this review ruin any plans you have of booking here but please be aware that this is mainly a caravan site and is best suited to them (in bad weather, which Devon doesn't really get much of)

Long live the tenters !

 Absolutely Wonderful!
We stayed for 2 weeks with our two children aged 7 and 3 and cannot find any fault with the site at all!
The pitches were all very well spaced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The takeaway food was better than pub food, served on a proper plate, returnable the following day, mmmm steak and chips is just what you need after a very long day of travelling!
Everything was incredibly well priced - the shop, takeaway and pub! The swimming pool was lovely and warm, the only downside was a shortage of sun loungers but not the end of the world - we just took our own!

The location was brilliant perfectly nestled in the hills but only a stones throw away from Paignton, Torquay and the beautiful South Hams coastline!
Toilets and showers were spotless. We will return without a doubt! We thoroughly enjoyed the evenings entertainment and the kids loved the disco's!
The site was lovely and quiet at night - no road noise and no nuisance teenagers wondering around - it was perfect in every way! Thank you to all of the staff who made our holiday the best in a very long time - we look forward to returning next year!

Nice site with clean facilities. Easy to find, signposted from Torbay ring road. Decent swimming pool and loungers etc available beside bar and shop. Nice welcome given and discount vouchers given out on request. We used the £1 off per person at QuayWest (Waterpark nr Paignton) and 50p off pp at Living Coasts. Take Away menu also in welcome pack prices from £1.30 - £3.50 for breakfast and evening meals start at £2.50 up to £6.99 for pizzas.

Free ice freezing service - freezer in Wash-up room to use, as and when you want to. Although don't forget to get them when you leave. We did! If there's still 4 blue packs with C. NEAL on in a WHSmith bag(I think) - help yourselves!
A little noisy in the evenings in the camping area - noise levels not policed after 11pm. But soon dropped off to sleep. And early morning wake up by families and fairly noisy road nearby. As a couple I probably wouldn't recommend. I think we were the only young couple, and didn't fit in with neighbours either staying up late drinking or waking early to satisfy crying kids. To be honest it's also a bit of a trek to the toilet/shower block if you get a pitch right down the bottom. Why put the caravans next to these blocks when they have their own facilities??? Anyway, clean, friendly site - quite a few kids/families, convenient shop/takeaway on site.

Having read some good reviews and bad reviews about this campsite, I must say that all the bad reviews are very misleading.
We spent a week at this site and didn't have one complaint, the staff made us feel very welcome, the site's facilities were excellent, the toilets and showers were immaculate and the showers were always hot no matter what time of day you had one.
The food available was fantastic, we were a little dubious at Sirloin steak for £5.50 but it was great, cheap prices but great food.
The shop on site had everything you would need. The clubhouse had very reasonable prices and the entertainment was great for both adults and children. The swimming pool was very nice, it was very clean and had sun loungers around it for anyone who wanted to just laze by the pool.
It was set in the countryside so you couldn't walk to the main attractions in Paignton, Torquay and Brixham but these were all easily reached by a short drive in the car.
Overall we had a brilliant holiday and would definitely recommend this site to anyone both with kids or without and we will definitely be staying again.

Lovely site, couldn't find fault with it. Heated open air swimming pool, nice cosy bar, shop, ample parking, good pitches, well kept, clean, great toilet / shower facilities, ( even ladies vanity areas with plugs for hairdryers etc.,) childrens play park, laundry & a nice little take away.
This is a well run site. We live only 10 minutes away & its a little haven. Ideal for exploring Dartmoor & Torbay. We will be spending many weekends there this summer ( providing we can get in as it gets booked up pretty quickly !)

We visited this site on the second leg of our camping holiday and were pitched along with all the other tents near the playground. We were first offered a very sloping pitch, but we managed to squeeze our 6 man dome onto a flatter one round the corner. The site seems to cater predominantly for caravans many of which appear to be there for most of the summer. There is quite a slope up to all the facilities from the tent area so make sure you don't forget your teatowel!

There were ample showers and toilets and we didn't have to queue at all, even in peak season. However, the shower block is separated from the toilets, washbasins and hairdryer socket. There's a great laundry (£2 a wash), but it got very busy - best to go first thing. There's also a club, but we didn't have a chance to try it.

There's a great park for the kids, and a nice pool open from 9.30 am to 6.30pm. The well stocked shop is open from 9am to 9pm, but in common with the other campsites we visited this tour, no fresh fruit or veg.

All in all, excellent facilities but lacking in "camping camaraderie".
