Great little site close to pubs, there was a couple of different ones, we went up the road about a mile to the lambs arms, great scran. close shops and a beautiful walk to the river and park, what the kids loved.
We got electric hookup with easy. kids loved the rope swing as we sat round the fire pit
Not a bad little site at all, will defo go back.

Based on the reviews on here we booked 4 nights on this site.
Sadly it did not live up to the reviews and in our opinion, and that of two other couples who we talked to on site, it was a huge disappointment.
The village itself is very nice with 4 pubs and a Co-Op. The excellent Wylam Waggonway cycle path passes just outside the site and there is public transport (bus and rail) to Hexham and Newcastle a very short walk from the site.
On arrival we were pounced upon at the gate and immediately asked for the full payment, with no real greeting or customer service. We were told to set up anywhere we wanted, with no advice about distancing etc. No other information was given and we had to ask where the toilets, water etc was (it was not obvious).
The site itself is basically just a flat lumpy field but it was adequate.
The 'facilities', such as they were, left a lot to be desired. They consist of a single toilet with an old stone sink in a brick built shed that was not cleaned for the whole 4 days that we stayed there. There was toilet paper on the floor, the flush handle was gaffa taped together and there was old ingrained dirt everywhere, including on the first aid kit. The single sink was being used for handwashing, a washroom and washing dishes. There was no hand santiser or any means of cleaning the surfaces anywhere on the site, nor any way of drying your hands.
There is a fresh water tap and a toilet emptying facility, a brick built hole with an old dustbin lid on top as a closure, next to this.
The waste bins were full to overflowing and not emptied at all during our stay, with notices saying 'Please take your rubbish home. Handling it is a risk to us' - hard to do if you are touring.
During our stay the entrance to the site was changed from a flat farm gate access to a steep ramp with unprotected sides, made up of what looked like hardcore, at a 90 degree angle to a narrow farm lane. There were no barriers to the side of this and it was unlit. In our 6m van found the turn sharp but exited ok. However a couple of large caravans really struggled.
We have used many CS/CL sites in the past and have usually found them good value for money. For £20 a night including electric this site was way overpriced. We will not return.

Owners very friendly and helpful. Situated within walking distance to the village and some excellent walks right outside the campsite.

The site was perfect for our needs. We travelled with our cat and the location was ideal, well away from roads and very quiet.
The presence of a resident cat encouraged us to think it would be suitable. The owner was lovely, very helpful and friendly but not at all intrusive.
We did not use the facilities as we have our own. Super pub grub within walking distance, as well as shops.
All in a great stay. We will stay again and recommend it to others.
Giving 10/10 for facilities and child friendliness because there is no 'not applicable'. I am sure they were fine!
Good places to visit nearby, we went to Corbridge and to the Alwinton show.

The site is a large open field with an open view eastwards. The two ponys in the field next door like it if you feed them long grass from the campsite!
On arrival there was a note to phone the owner who was away. There was a man who came on site to mow grass and check things but he didn't introduce himself to us when we saw him next day. So difficult to give much of a customer service score as there wasn't really any other than the phone call. There's nothing on site specifically for children.
Most of the site was occupied with caravans, so whilst we were there with our 2 tents there was only one other tent each night. We chose to stay is it is just off national cycle route 72 (Hadrian's Cycleway) and is a 5 minute walk to the station with easy access into Newcastle and the Metro which got us to see the city, Bede Centre at Jarrow and the excellent Roman Fort at South Shields. The walk to the station takes you over the Tyne with herons to see when we crossed.
Facilities are very basic and a bit dated. There is a single room toilet with an old kitchen sink wash basin (which you also have to use for washing up and clothes washing). There is no mirror in the room and no shelf for wash bags, so things have to go on the floor. The chemical toilet emptying facility is just outside, so sometimes there is a bit of a smell. Also, above the sink, the wall is green with damp which could be easily cleaned off. The sink had two loose plugs both of which were difficult to get out of the plug hole as neither was on a chain. These would be a very simply jobs to fix.
What is really needed for campers is a shower. Wylam £5. 00 per person per night for no shower (£15. 00 for the three of us per night) in comparison with £12. 00 per night at Brockalee at Bardon Mill with 2 loos, 2 showers, no smells, washing up sink and free fresh eggs. I suggest the owners try out Brockalee in a tent to see the difference and invest accordingly.
The site is on the flight path for aircraft taking off from the airport, but it's not many, so expect a little disturbance from that. Otherwise the only noise problems we had were one caravan owner sharing his taste in music loudly one evening whilst clearing out his awning (I asked him politely to turn it down and he didn't) and then an 05:40 am move of 4 caravans out of the north west corner of the site into the middle. You can't move vans with vehicles and do it silently It was a bit early for that sort of thing! I wonder what the Retired Caravan Owners Group who were at the other end of the site thought.
Wylam has a Co-Op shop 5 mins walk from the site and up the hill the superb Bistro en Glaze which was so good we went back for a second evening. Highly recommended for excellent food and not very much more than the pub opposite.
A good site which with a little more TLC and a bit more development could be excellent.

A basic but nice site, there is a toilet with a sink, no shower. 16 amp electric hook up. TV and mobile phone signal good. We had a nice greeting from The Fox and Hounds pub. All the pubs were dog friendly the food in The Ship was fantastic.
There is a dog walk along the cycle track just outside of the site. To get to the site is a bit awkward, you have to turn down the road alongside the river turn left at the bottom and the site is directly in front of you.

What a superb place, especially dog-friendly and a gem for motorhome, caravan etc stop off for a few days to explore the delights of the local area. The lady in charge was friendly, informative and just delightful. The facilities are fine with lovely views from the site. Jess and I had a great time.
I would avoid the Fox & Hounds as the most unfriendly of places, clearly needs some kind of rethink if they are to survive. Very disappointing but takes nothing away from the Stephensons Arms, great place and there are other pubs well worth considering.

Very friendly owner, and fantastic location right next to the Tyne, and very close to the pubs/shops of Wylam.
There pretty basic facilities (especially in a tent) - there's no shower, and just one toilet/sink. Suspect it's more designed for caravans/motorhomes, but for the price, can't complain.

Camping and Caravan Club, Certified Site. £16 per night with electric.
Large oblong Field, with short cut grass with cuttings collected. With some views of surrounding hills. Only one toilet, in outbuilding with a washing up bowl and information leaflets board in said room, which had a large frosted window with blinds. Outside and underneath this window was the water fill up tap, which made it a bit uncomfortable for my wife when she was filling up the aqua roll and a man walked in to use the toilet!
That aside, we found this site to be excellent for our needs. Metro Train station nearby with trains to nearby Newcastle and the Metro centre. Walks and cycle path along side the river Tyne, which is a stones throw from the site. 3 Pubs within easy walking distance, The Boathouse Inn, which was next to the train station. Was only serving Pie and mash or sandwiches as food but had a great selection of cask ales and ciders, about 10 of each in a friendly atmosphere. The Black Bull Inn, also friendly, where we had probably the best Sunday lunch I can remember, and which also had a couple of cask beers as well as the usual choice and Sky TV.
The Fox and Hounds, also friendly which was just reopening under new owners, weren't doing food when we were there but planned too. There is a Spar near The Black Bull Inn.
TV coverage was good, phone signal was also good with 4g most of the time with O2 giff gaff. Think the site may have WiFi but can't confirm as did not use it. Have give site facilities 5 out of 10 only because some people might expect showers and such which of course it does not.
Occasional noise from the planes flying out of Newcastle International airport. When arriving at site you drive down the last terrace nearest the river, at the end of the terrace turn left and you should see the site entrance.
