Fab stay at this gorgeous campsite. The owner could not have been more helpful. The area is beautiful. Great base for exploring the surrounding area. Loads to do nearby and a lovely children's play area less than five minutes walk away. We visited The Locomotion at Shildon (which is free!), High Force Waterfall and Raby Castle. We had two sets of friends camping and they said the shower block was immaculate. This was one of the best short breaks that we have had. There is no entertainment on the site which meant the kids (8, 6, 5, 2, 2) made up their own games and explored - they didn't complain that they were bored once! I've never been able to let my children be so free. There is one entrance which is also the exit and security cameras. We could always see the children as its a small site but we didn't have to be next to them.

We would highly recommend this site it's just beautiful and we're all going to visit again next year.

Just back from a weekend on this lovely little site. We booked last minute for Easter weekend and rang to confirm availability. The owner explained they'd been very quiet due to the weather and had had to close the static caravans because the water pipes had frozen. Bit of cold doesn't bother us so we were happy to go.

On arrival we were advised that the bottom end of the site was very boggy and shown to a hard-standing area in front of some statics. The owner was lovely - apologising for the weather and the condition of the site - but both were fine from our point of view.

The toilets/showers are a bit out-dated but clean with plenty of hot water in the sinks and 20p for a lengthy hot shower.

We walked 7 miles along the side of the River Tees into Barnard Castle - plenty of mud and foot-deep snow drifts in places - which had plenty to occupy us. We planned on getting the bus back (it stops right outside the site) but ended up getting a taxi as the bus had been delayed by an accident.

The local pub, The Bridgewater Arms (?), is definitely more geared up as a restaurant with only one table not set for eating. The menu looks lovely and would probably set you back £30/person for 2 courses. We'd already eaten when we went in but I'd certainly give it a try. Sir Ian Botham was dining whilst we were there!

No views from the site but considering how close it is to the main road it was lovely and peaceful and exactly what we were looking for. And good value for £16/night.

Stayed for a couple of days after August bank holiday. Site wasn't too busy. Owners were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Facilities were basic and dated but very clean - 3 shower rooms with toilet for ladies and a couple of showers and toilets for men.

The site itself is a mixture of static caravans and tourers and has a very pleasant feel to it. It is a very quiet and relaxing site and even though it backs on to a main road you aren't disturbed by the noise.

There are lovely walks straight from the site and only it's only 5 minutes from walks along the River Tees.

Barnard Castle is 5 miles away - a lovely town with plenty of shops and eating places. A visit to Bowes Museum is highly recommended as is High Force -a wonderful waterfall. There are plenty of places to visit by car but there is a local bus stop right outside the site if like us you don't take your van off site.

The local pub has a reputation for good food - however we just had a drink outside with the dogs. A little bit on the pricey side.

The site could benefit from a small site shop as there is no shop in the village. There is no children's play area but the village does have a play area and a tennis court that are very close by.

It was rather wet when we stayed and didn't get to walk as much as we would have liked so we have booked to go back in a few weeks to check out more walks and at £16 a night is extremely good value for money. This is a site I would certainly be happy to come back to many times.

We have stayed on this site several times and it is always a pleasure. The owners are extremely friendly and always around to help or have a chat.

We have always stayed on the touring pitches at the top end of the site, opposite the statics, and it is very pleasant with good sized pitches and a fair level of privacy. There is also a large camping field for tents, caravans and motorhomes.

The toilet block is old but clean, 20p hot showers last a decent amount of time.

Not much in Winston itself other than a pub, but not to be missed is the lovely walk by the Tees, go along Church Mews to the right of the church and down the path. Barnard Castle for local shops and plenty of other attractions nearby.

Been to Winston Caravan Park on more than 1 occasion & stay in a Static Caravan. The owners are a fantastic couple who have been running this site for sometime. They are always very friendly & always totally helpful. If ever anything is needed they will help you out.

The main owner will go that extra mile for any of her guests. She has been injured before now helping someone out. That's how great she is.

There's a toilet & shower block for campers on site that is always looked after. There is also somewhere to do your laundry if needed. There is also lots of leaflets & maps left in a hut for anyone to help themselves to. These are to let people know where to visit & how to get there.

Barnard Castle is just a short distance away & has lots of good shops plus Bishop Auckland is close the other way. Loads to see & do nearby plus the North York Dales are nearby as well.

There are pubs nearby but never been in them as too busy enjoying ourselves.

This site is fantastic as it has Static Caravans it has room for Tents & Motorhomes or Caravans.

Margaret will help anybody who doesn't have a booking & just turns up.

You can take your car right down the site with you & is right by the Static Caravan. There are seats & tables to sit outside in sunny weather.

The Caravans are all well looked after & very clean. They have everything you need. Nobody can fault them. If anybody faults this place go elsewhere as this is a Fantastic Site & there is nothing wrong with it.

If you want something this isn't try Getting A Life.

I have just arrived home from a weeks stay on this site and the only thing I can describe it as was brilliant.

The owners, Margaret & Roger are really welcoming and extremely helpful. Although I stayed in a van this time, I would definitely go back with our tent. The site is very well established and the facilities are not brand new, but this doesn't alter the fact that what is there is clean and welcoming. I did use the shower block as the one in our van became crowded with four of us and for 20p I had a good long hot shower.

The thing I loved best was the fact that even though there are only basic facilities, my children 4 & 7 could run free and had a great time creating games with other children on the site. It was like the camping holidays I remember as a child. Other people have said that it's not really child friendly but we met so many families this week.

There is lots to do near the site. Barnard Castle, an historic market town is about 6 miles away with a Morrisons supermarket and everything you could need.

The free railway museum at Shildon was brilliant, it's big so you need a packed lunch.

There is also a place called Gibsons Cave which provides the most magical forest & waterfall. This leads on to High force & Low force which are a sight to behold.

Walkable distance from the site is the trail to the river (over a couple of fields) which has stepping stones and my children were fascinated by the whole thing.

We did visit the pub. A bottle of wine (cheaper end) was £15. 50 and a pint of ale was around £3. 50, so not cheap but lovely.

One of the best holidays I have had and I was sad to leave. You do need a car to go out and there are plenty of things to do which don't cost much money.

We made a late booking for the August bank holiday so were glad to find a vacancy for the three nights. This is a lovely small, caravan site - the owner, Margaret, was very friendly and welcoming.

She gave us a choice of pitches in the bottom field, which was slightly sloping and fairly close to the main road. The road noise was not a problem at night.

The facilities are a bit dated but otherwise very good. Three separate WC/wash sink/shower room for the ladies and for the gents, a couple of showers, sinks and WC's. The pitch included electric hook-up and an awning for £16 per night, which is very reasonable for a bank holiday. Showers are 20p.

Pitches are quite close together but there is plenty of room in front of each pitch. Loads to do in the area. Local pub food was OK, mainly fish and quite expensive. Hope to re-visit this site soon.

Beautiful autumnal surroundings and lovely non-commercial wee site. Owners extra welcome and helpful - as we had limited facilities in our campervan on its first outing, they offered facilities in an unused static, which was much appreciated.

Nearby road a bit noisy at peak times, then nothing but the owls! Good proximity to Barnard Castle, we highly recommend the amazing refurbished Bowes Museum.

This is a very small campsite with space for 8 or so tents (in addition to the statics and campervans). There were only three tents pitched and there is nothing to do unless you want to get in your car. Its adjacent to a busy A road and the owner was also not very welcoming. We were then charged £20 for 1 7 man tent (including 2 cars).

A lovely site very well maintained, owners made us very welcome. Not far from Barnard Castle and Piercebridge surrounded by lovely countryside. The campsite was full but didn't feel overcrowded. The toilet blocks were clean 20p for a long hot shower. Toilet, sink and shower  all in one room (ladies a little bit old fashioned)  but never had to queue.
Will definitely return.
