First weekend away in our restored 70's Castleton. Great little spot, friendly and quite. Some road noise from the nearby A67 but not too bad. Showers and toilets clean and tidy as was the rest of the site. Only pub in the village is more of a pricey restaurant but I had a nice pint or two of Black Sheep. Not much to do if you have kids but we didn't so found it ideal. I got the impression they were not too keen on tents but if you have a tourer and want a nice laid back spot in a great location then look no further.

Very nice quiet site in a good setting for lots of attractions and walking. Site owner very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, we could choose where to pitch. The facilities are very clean and tidy, if a little dated. 20p gets you a long hot shower and the ladies have seperate shower rooms, which were a nice change from the communal ones, soap and paper towels were provided, which is a nice extra. The camping pitch is level and sheltered. A lovely, peaceful little site, more suited to couples rather than families due to it's size.

September 2004 Nice site which i have visited a few times over the years. Near a main road but sheltered from it by the hedge. Clean 'en suite' type facilities where you have a shower, basin and toilet in a room you can lock. A few statics but with a separate tent and tourers field. Short walk to what used to be the village pub but is now quite posh restaurant - didn't seem to like us taking up one of their tables and only having a drink. But don't let this put you off - its a great place to explore Teesdale from, convenient fo the bus if you're backpacking and some great short evening walks. Watch out for the chickens - they will go in your tent!

July 2002 We live quite close to this site{5 or 6 miles). Went to it for a cheap w/e away. Found the site very good for a small site. It's very clean and the owners are very friendly. Had a BBQ, played some music and had some tins- no probs.. then went down the pub (pubs a bit quiet). If your not from this area its close to Barnard Castle, Raby Castle and en-route to the lakes. It will also be handy for that new railway museum at Shildon. I will use it again and if you like clean small uncommercial sites give it a go. It has also got a smart river for swimming and stuff just 2 or 3 mins walk away.

A small site, long and thin on a slight incline the facilies are clean and free and the site, although it borders a main road is well sheltered by trees and keeps quiet
