We read the reviews of this site before we came and although there were a few negative ones we thought we would risk it and see how it went and in total honesty we cannot but wonder if they were talking about the same place! What a lovely site, quiet, picturesque and thoroughly friendly. The service is fantastic. Our daughter who we came to visit decided she wanted to spend a few days in our van with us while we were here. We asked if it was possible and obviously expected a surcharge for the added guest but we're amazed that Margaret just said no problem, there was no extra charge for the unexpected guest. Completely the opposite. Margaret and her husband were most accommodating and bent over backwards to help us.
The vans are a little dated decor wise but very spacious and clean. All the amenities are in full working order again dated but perfectly clean. Hard standing for those who need it and all electrical hook ups. We are still here as I am posting this and are having a fantastic time. The shop as has been said is in the next village but as we drive it is not an issue. The views are spectacular as is the nearby river, there is a park for the kids nearby and a pub for those who like a tipple. The local residents are very welcoming and friendly.
We would 100% recommend Winston caravan park to anyone.
£300 for a week in such beautiful surroundings at a site run by such nice people during the six weeks holiday is a real find. I really hope Margaret and her husband change their minds and keep this place going so we can come back again often. If I was going to be picky I would say. The shower blocks look like they need a bit of updating but they are clean and fully working and to be really picky wifi would be nice but the main test is would we come again and the answer is a resounding yes.
Thank you both so much for having us.

This was our first time away in our tourer and awning. There was 8 of us in our group and 1 dog and we all had a fantastic time. The site has a field, toilet/shower block and indoor washroom which are all kept very clean. The owners are very friendly and helpful nothing is a problem for them. The only downside is the closest shop is about an hour walk but there is a bus stop outside the site it takes 6 minutes to shop on bus or morrisons is about 15 minutes in car. We ordered a Chinese to our van and it's the best Chinese we've ever tasted ! There's a park about a 5 minute walk from site which was great and about 10 minutes away is the river which is great for a paddle we spent a day there. We had 4 kids in our group aged 6-15 and during our 5 night stay not once did they say they were bored. We are going back to the site next week for another week.

I decided to take my 5 year old daughter camping for a night as she had never been before.
I had previously seen the Winston camp site on this site and had looked at the website. It seemed like an ideal place to go, so I called up last minute (about 2 hours before setting off) to see if there were any sites available.
I was in luck! I was told there were a few sites I could pitch a tent for the night!
When I arrived, the site seemed quiet and relaxed. There were a few static sites and touring caravans in the upper part of the site, but Margaret, the owner said we could choose a spot at the bottom part of the site.
We pitched up in a nice peaceful field, surrounded by trees. My daughter made friends within about 20 minutes, and I had the chance to relax quietly.
The set is very quiet, friendly and you don't have to worry about kids wandering off - there is only one entrance / exit, and the owners both assured me they had cameras on that.
The facilities were decent - shower and toilet blocks (some previous reviews have said 'basic', however I would describe them as well maintained, hygienic and more than adequate for a camp site.
There is also laundry facilities, as well as access to hair dryers, an iron, washing facilities to clean the pots!
There were electric hook ups available, however it wasn't something we required… (Not many things you can plug in when you're in a tent!).
The site was ran by a lovely couple, who both seemed really friendly and helpful. I had several conversations with them over the course of our stay and they said they had been running the site for 30 years!
Overall, I cannot fault the place - great location (about 25 minutes from Darlington), very beautiful, well maintained and picturesque site that feels safe and family friendly; well maintained facilities and excellent value for money!
Thank you! Will certainly come again before the season is out!

We have just returned from a lovely week at this site. We stayed in the larger disabled caravan, which had everything you would need, and more. We were a group of 2 adults and 15 year old. Under £300 for the whole week fully inclusive of electric, gas, bedding etc. (only towels required), which cant be matched for August school holidays.
The site was lovely and relaxed and kept very clean and tidy the whole week. We had no noise disturbance from people or dogs, sheep or pigeons! Just lovely country sounds, we couldn't really hear the cars either as we were higher up the site.
Margaret & Roger were so helpful, but only when asked, and supplied me with an extra mattress for the bed.
We walked along the river from the bridge, around the village, through the church and playing areas and stopped in the pub for a drink in the sunshine. We went back for an evening meal, 3 Mains, 3 wines, 3 pints, 3 juice and 3 puds £113. It is surely a lovely dining experience and the owner/manager very helpful. It it closed Sunday and Mondays.
During our stay we went to Newcastle, Durham, Barnard Castle, Whitby and Scarborough and to the cinema in Darlington twice.
Lovely stay, and running a place like this would be my dream job.

We stayed here for three nights, we had hard standing in a very well looked after site, Margaret and Roger were certainly the perfect hosts, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The facilities although a bit dated were extremely clean. The site is well run and is handy for the village and there are plenty of walks just on the doorstep, especially The Teesdale Way which follows the river Tees from source to mouth. This is definitely a caravan site that we will visit again. Our thanks to Margaret and Roger for helping to make it an even greater stay at their site.

We had a week at this site and it was excellent. The owners couldn`t have been more helpful, they allowed us to use an empty static to store the contents of our van while we went to pick up our new van. The site is very quiet and peaceful The toilet blocks are dated but very clean with plenty of hot water available.
There are a few places locally to eat and you can go to Barnard castle
5 miles away for plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops.

Jeff and I (Helen) stayed at Winston Caravan Park camped Friday night and stayed in a caravan Saturday night we left Sunday afternoon Margaret and Roger owners were not strict with our leaving times. My sister, her partner, my nephew baby Patrick and Alfie their dog camped with us Friday night and we all stayed in the caravan Saturday night, and they stayed an extra night Sunday night.
I would personally recommend this site and the owners for both camping and caravanning to all. This was my first experience of camping and we all loved it, Baby Patrick and Alfie the dog also loved the experience. There was lots of room between tents, and found the campers on the site were very friendly and used the camp and caravan site again and again year after year, they also only had good things to say about the owners. The site was very well maintained, very relaxing, picturesque, so peaceful, and serine, I did not want to leave .
The caravan was lovely very clean (pristine), very well maintained had every amenity, fabulously furnished. Margaret was very accommodating offered us extra blankets and offered us anything we would or could have needed.
The individual toilet and shower blocks were great, the water was lovely and hot, both toilet and showers were extremely clean and nice tiling on the walls and good size mirrors in the blocks.
The owners were EXTREMELY accommodating Margaret and Roger. I have never meet owners of a Caravan Park who were so helpful and considerate to our every need, they both went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. An excellent price for an excellent weekend away.
I have and will in the future highly recommend both the campsite and caravans and owners to friends and family. We hope to go back in the next month to both camp and stay in a caravan with family.
Many many many thanks Helen (Happy camper)

Just stayed here for 2 nights this weekend. Owners extremely helpful and friendly.
We mentioned we should have bought a wind breaker, and owner found us one somebody had left behind, went out of her way to be helpful. But the way, we left the wind breaker over your conservatory wall when we left!
Shower facilities very clean, loo roll and soap provided. Showers 20p but very hot and long enough to do the necessary!
Laundry room also.
Not very busy when we were here which was great for us. We had plenty of space.
No strict coming or going times, owner very accommodating.
Lovely little picturesque village, just a pub, no shop so you will need to take all you need if you don't plan on leaving the site.
Would recommend it highly, and will definitely be returning again.
Very pretty little site, nice and peaceful.

We stayed here for two nights one tent with 4 adults 4 children we had the whole camping field to ourselves so we got told to pitch anywhere. We got made very welcome and a kettle and toaster got put in the laundry room to make things easier for us as we had no electric hook up. The kids loved the fact they could play games in the field and it wasn't far to the toilet block as this is a lovely small site. One morning we had a accident and the lady came and administered first aid to the person in our group. Both people were very helpful and welcoming we couldn't fault them at all. The only downfall we came across for the stay was you paid 20p for a shower and it didn't last long enough as we didn't get told how long you got so would advice people to have at least 40-60p for a shower. We will definitely be returning her as it was only 30 mins from home and was very cheap and cheerful.
