A step back in time!
FOR: location is great, with sea views if you need to or sheltered ares with hedging to give privacy
FOR: Fairly quiet and most other campers were friendly
FOR: Reasonable prices
FOR: Good size pitches, well laid out
AGAINST: Reception! no warm welcome here, very abrupt, dated 60's style office.
AGAINST: Toilets! loo roll outside the cubicle! and no provision to dry your hands after washing!
Showers just as bad, concentration camp standard!
Overall, cold and out of date, we used our caravans loo/shower.
These need updating urgently!

It seems like a lot of people just don't get what this site is all about. No there aren't many facilities or entertainment.
he whole point of this site is the fantastic views of Bridlington Bay across to Flamborough and the massive beach when the tide is out.
Yes the cliffs are eroding but this is the east coast! There are some new sturdy metal steps down to the beach. There is sea fishing, lots of long walks, beach and sea for children and dogs.
Its very relaxing just sitting there and watching everyone else! We don't usually go in the school holidays but had no trouble with noise or overcrowding.
The ladies in reception and shop do sometimes seem a little abrupt but they are quite nice when you get to know them! Stan the security guard is always available in the evening should any problems arise.
There isn't much in the shop but there are basics. We don't use the toilets or showers now but only because we have them in our caravan.
This is a site we go to often and will continue to do so.

I have been to this site every year for about 5 years and we love it. You can park right on the sea front with lovely views over the sea to Bridlington, at night the lighthouse flashes over the sea and lights up the site.
The toilets are a bit old but they are always clean and once you get used to the toilet paper being outside the toilet, its not a problem. We love walking our dogs on the beach which is minutes away.

I read the previous review from July before our holiday at the site and was a bit concerned about what we would find, but I had no need to be. My husband, son and I stayed there for a week. Our pitch was right next to the main shower block.
The showers were clean & always had hot water and there are 2 hooks and a small shelf in each cubicle which gave ample space. The toilets were also really clean. Yes, the toilet roll is on a dispenser outside but you just get used to taking some before you go in, so that was no problem.
The beach (which was lovely & sandy) was about a 5 minute walk from where our tent was pitched and my son even braved going in the sea ! It was so relaxing hearing the waves at night.
There is a fish & chip shop nearby and we had a gorgeous meal at an Italian restaurant nearby, Cosa Nostra. You got huge portions, the food was delicious and very good value for money.
Everyone on site was really friendly and we would definitely go back there again. We had a really relaxing holiday, which is just what we were looking for.

We've been to this camp site twice this year so far and will hopefully go again before the camping season is over. We do not need an electric hook up so have stayed both times in the paddock / overspill field and we like it.
The facilities do look outdated, but we've had far worse and we're quite used to getting our loo paper before we go into the cubicles. The showers could do with just a couple more hooks, but there is a bathroom too which I thought was a nice idea.
There are plenty of places to get drinking water. The pot wash area is a bit rubbish though. The sinks are tiny and round which means you can't get your bowl in. I tend to rinse my dirty pots and bring them home to wash if possible.
There are some steep, but sturdy steps onto the beach which aren't too bad. We consider them as safe access. A strong negative point is that the toilet and shower blocks are locked every night. This caught us out the first time as my 8 year old got up for a wee in the night. In the end she had to crouch behind our car.
On arrival you get a toilet block key for a deposit of £2 which gets you access until lock up time which is around half ten/eleven o clock. Staff here are polite, but not warm. It doesn't stop us from going back though as it's quite close to where we live.
We haven't seen any dedicated play areas for children, but the overspill field is good for games if it's not too busy and the camp site is so close to the beach that one isn't needed. The beach is mainly pebbles and stones so we take some beach shoes to stop them from hurting our feet. The camp site is always tidy and well presented.

This site was ok but the staff on meeting & leaving were not very welcoming which didn't give a good impression. The toilet rolls are on dispensers outside of the actual toilet itself, which only dawned when having visited the toilet as there were no signs as to what to do! The showers were extremely small & dated, there wasn't anywhere to store your things, which isn't good with children. The site was ok but probably won't be going again, the children enjoyed it being able to roam quite freely.

Went to this site for the weekend with some friends. Had a good time because the weather was good so we could play cricket, rounders etc but other than that I agree totally with the review from kandmbarron.
The beach wasn't very pleasant as the cliff had fallen on it! Toilets were grotty and no facilities. The price was the same as other sites we have stayed on with lots of facilities and entertainment but on this one there was nothing but a field.
The surrounding area was also a bit run down, a bit depressing really. Won't be returning.

This has been written by my 10 year old daughter, after reading other reviews and many visits to the campsite, this is totally her view:
Ulrome is the best place I've ever been to. I go with my family and we've stayed as long as 6 weeks! It is right on top of a cliff looking over a beautiful beach, so at night you can hear the sea.
It is near lots of shops, 2 arcades, bowling and a swimming pool. On site there is a small shop, reception, a duck pond and a park which has now fallen down, but there is a hill with a tunnel going through it which is fun to play in.
There is a fish van which comes round every Tuesday where you can get lobster, crab and lots of other yummy fish.
The toilets and shower blocks are very clean but are often a bit crowded. The beach is very lovely and clean and there are many things to do on it like play frisbee and fly kites and swim in the sea, once we even saw a seal!
If you like long walks you can walk along the beach and you will find a brilliant ice cream shop called Mr Moos, which do the best ice cream, carrot cake and milkshakes I've ever tasted and it is a perfect place to walk dogs, because dogs are allowed everywhere, even on the beach.
I have been to Ulrome many times and I would definitely love to go again.

It may have been Easter, and we should have known better, but nothing could have prepared us for the bitter wind and rain that came straight off the North Sea across the site - making us feel very exposed and vulnerable.
The sites facilities are ok but no toilet paper is a bit cheap and very annoying - and the shop is virtually empty with just a few papers and sweets.
Outside the site the whole area is bleak - with rusty metal, collapsing cliffs, shut shops, broken fences, and signs saying don't go here and don't do this. No easy way down to the beach, and no shops, pubs, restaurants or attractions for miles around - unless you wander down to Skipsea Sands.
Perfect if you are looking for someone bleak to spend your final few years before you go to the greater campsite in the sky - but not the place to take a family

We stayed here for a night in April 2010 just for a quick weekend getaway as its about 1 hour from home.
They were able to fit us in no problems without a reservation and got a nice pitch with EHU and it was pretty level for the motorhome.
We found the site without any problems just using the postcode on the satnav and then campsite signs.
The site is quite big, much bigger than I thought it would be and went quite far back from the coast. We had a seaview pitch near the front.
There is beach access down a slope, well muddy steps that someone has made but you can get down.
The toilet blocks are not anything to write home about and as someone has mentioned the toilet roll is on 1 holder out in the main part.
The was chemical toilet disposal in this area too. The water taps and bins are easy to see. I didn't see a motorhome waste disposal area though.
The site was well presented, nice tarmac roads around and speedhumps. I didn't think much to the washing up area, small bowls and not very hot water. I saved my BBQ cleaning until home. There was also water coming up from a blocked drain in this area.
It was very pleasant site though, £2 deposit for the key to the toilets. £17.60 for 2 adults, MH, EHU and 1 child. We were the last weekend in Easter period though so got hit with peak prices.
I didn't use the shop so cannot comment.
Everyone was friendly we met and quite a lot of the touring caravans seem to stay for the season.
I probably would go back again as it was just nice and relaxing. We needed to frills and we got no frill, just time together on the site playing.
