This was our first time of staying in a caravan club campsite. It was myself and husband (age 45) and our two daughters (aged 14 and 16). The directions there were great and when we rang to say we would be late, the staff were so friendly and helpful. The pitches felt very private and we were surrounded by trees with the sound of Longleat's lions and sealions making lots of noises, which we thought was great. The campsite was immaculate. We will be visiting again soon.

We stayed there over the easter weekend. The site was very clean and extremely well maintained. The staff were very helpful. The shop was well stocked the basics. The toilet blocks were fresh and modern and also well maintained. The play area was suitable for younger children. All in all a great site and we shall definitely be going back there again

To Find Site:-Leave A36 onto the A362 towards Frome. At Lane End turn left at the White Hart public house. From here to the site is about two miles and is well signed. However this access road is quite narrow in places and care must be taken as passing oncoming vehicles can be difficult. For obvious reasons new arrivals should be after 1. 00pm.

This campsite is part of the Longleat Estate. It couldn’t be any more convenient for visiting the attractions that Longleat has to offer. The reverse of that is that it is otherwise a bit remote if for example you have a motorhome which you don’t want to take off site. The site is open between March and early January and accepts non-members but not tents. There are 164 pitches, the majority are on hardstanding. The site has many mature trees which might cause a problem if you want satellite TV but co-ax connections are available. Mobile reception can be poor depending on network. Electric points are convenient to all pitches and are rated at 16amps and use CEE17 blue connectors. There are two toilet blocks to usual Club high standards. At quieter times of year one block might be closed. Service points are dotted around the site. There are two motorhome service points but both require heavy drain covers to access. In the centre of the site is the information room and the building also has a family room with table tennis table. In addition for smaller children there is a playground. There is site wide WiFi but speed is fairly limited but perhaps not unexpected given the remoteness of the site. Reception sells a few essentials. Generally the site is quite peaceful but remember you are next door to a Safari Park so there will be some animal noise from time to time. Likewise the pitches along the approach road are subject to a bit of estate traffic noise during working hours.

I am sure the majority of campers that visit this site do so to enjoy the various attractions that Longleat offers. The entrance is literally outside the campsite gate. Longleat is geared up for children of all ages. If you visit the campsite page on the Club website there are links to reduced price entry tickets and when available don’t forget to download vouchers for savings on catering and gift shops. Be aware that not every attraction is included in the ticket price. For the railways and Safari Bus an additional fee applies. Around Christmas time Longleat have their Festival of Light which is mainly based around Chinese lanterns and other features and is well worth a visit.

We decided to stay here as our last trip before hibernating our caravan. Having read the various reviews, we were aware of the access issues getting to the park entrance itself, and they are quite correct. For some reason, you are taken on a long detour to the main entrance, which is situated a couple of miles from the main entrance. The last part of this is along a single lane road with hardly any passing places, and if it has been rainiing hard, like it had been when we arrived, certain places are prone to floding. The other issue is that you arrive with your van looking like you've driven cross-country, and you either leave your van in a sorry state, or you have to give it a good wash.

We arrived at 4. 45, and went into the main reception to register. We were told that we had to go choose our pitch first, unhitch, then come back to tell them our pitch number, and we would be given a barrier fob. So a very hurried drive around to decide on our pitch, unhitching and getting back to the office before it closed ensued.

This was focused around being near the 2nd toilet block, as the 1st one was shut for some reason.

Once decamped, we decided to go in search of supplies, and found that there was a sainsbury's in frome, some 6 miles away. Whilst not being one of the superstores, it's more than adequate for what you need, and is on a retail park with a KFC, pizza hut in case you wanted a quick fix. Petrol is no dearer than anywhere else either.

Our first night was a very disturbed one, due to having parked under a very large tree that due to the wind and rain, decided to keep dropping acorns onto the roof. In the morning we decide to move to a pitch that didn't have any trees overhanging.

The toilet block whilst being well served in terms of facilities, isn't without its issues. Bearing in mind that the other block was shut, there was a sign saying that it was shut between 10. 30 and midday for cleaning, which isn't exactly user-friendly.

The major issue is that there are 4 showers, that if you are taller than 5 foot 8 mean that you have to adopt a stooped position in order to get all the water as the jets are fixed into position in 3 of them, as only the 4th has a variable height showerhead. Also, the floor is a split level one, so you think that with the shower part being sunken that you won't have the usual problems of a wet floor to try and get dressed on. Alas, this isn't the case, as the floor gets completely wet due to the shower curtain being too short and not dooing its job properly.

The other practical problem is that the bench to sit on is fine if you are a child, but any average size adult won't be able to sit on it comfortably as it's only about 6 inches wide. We ended up going into a spare cubicle that had a dry floor to finsih getting dressed.

This is the same with both the mens' and ladies showers.

Having stayed at other sites, we were used to lockable toilet doors, and were surprised to find that apparently this is not the case with this caravan club site. Bearing in mind that the site does not have any kind of secure entrance, my wife did not feel at all safe being in the block by herself to have a shower, and I had to do guard duties by standing outside.

You don't tend to hear the noise from the lions or sea lions unless you are outside, so it doesn't really disturb your night's sleep. However, being so close to military establishments, we discovered that you do get noise from the planes that fly nearby, and noise from a main road that runs along one side of the site, and gives you a nice wake-up between 6. 30-7am.

For what is supposedly one of the club's main sites, we did not come across any of the wardens that are supposed to patrol the site, nor did we encounter any during the day.

We used the site as a base to go to other locations rather than to stay during the day, so cannot really provide an opinion of what it's like.

The pitches are quite spacious and well laid out throughout, with the pitch being covered in an amber gravel. There is enough space for your car regardless, as you have to park your caravan in line with the pitch number stake. The hook-ups also have a tv arial connection, which is handy if you don't have a freeview tv. Overall the pitches are level with the serice roads, so you don't always need a motor mover if you need to move the van.

Overall, the site is very clean, well maintained and organised, and the above comments are our thoughts based on our experience, so might not be issues for someone else.

We stayed here as going to Longleat itself. This is our second time yo this site. Toilet block always clean and tidy. Site well maintained and clean. Wardens friendly. We used Morrisons in Warminster for shopping. Longleat safari park has changed quite a bit since our last visit which is much better. We could hear lions and seallions on the pitch we were on but never heard anything during the night. Large hardstanding pitches well spaced out. There is slso a dog walk area. Lovely peaceful site until about 7 am when tractors start to go past site which can be loud. Found a problem that we had poor phone signal at site. We took our own wifi with us which was hit and miss. We decided to order pizza's from Domino's which is in the information room. We ordered the pizza's and was told would be delivered in half hour an hour. Hubby and daughter went to reception to wait for order t arrive. Nearly a hour later we phoned Domino's back up to enquire about the order to be told it was on its way and should be there in a few minutes. Whilst sat in the caravan with the other daughter she said mum I think pizza guy is here who had come through the fog walk area gate. He walked past and went to a caravan then started to look around. I went outside and asked if it was our order. It was so asked him why it had been so long as I walked him round to where hubby was parked with the money and told me he had run out of petrol in his moped and had to walk from the safari park entrance. By the time we drove back to caravan and sorted out who's was who's the pizza was just warm. Looking back we should of phoned Domino's up to complain about it but to late now. So I wouldn't recommended ordering pizzas to site. The only other complaint is now you have to come in down a road which is tight and towing a 26ft caravan and meeting traffic in a spot with no passing place isn't much fun. The first time we went you drove through the grounds and past the house.

Had a really lovely 2 nights in longleat campsite, everything about the site was good, however we did feel the cost of the 2 nights was a little steep. We stayed on the 3rd & 4 th Jan and paid £53. 20 for myself and my husband. I understand the inflated cost for the new year celebrations but the following wk end was very quiet, infact the last night there was 2 units being used, us being one of them. I must add longleat park was really great and the festival of light amazing, we will return.

Just returned from spending new year on this site. Very friendly staff and excellent facilities. Large well spaced pitches. We backed onto the grounds of Longleat with a waterfall and the train running behind us. It was very peaceful. The fireworks on New Years Eve were great and the Festival of Lights are well worth a visit. There are some lovely picturesque walks through the vast grounds. It is very close to home for us and we shall definitely return.

We have been here now on four occasions. A beautiful site and right in the middle of the longleat estate. The pitches are well serviced and the site is immaculate with clean and warm shower and toilet blocks. The staff are helpful (although a little strict with their instructions on how to park your unit!). Having longleat on your doorstep is fantastic and you got a discount with your CC membership card. All in all a wonderful site.

Just got back from our second stay at this superb site. I think it's now my favourite site. You have Longleat House and grounds within walking distance and where else can you hear sealions barking and lions and tigers roaring from the comfort of your caravan? The site itself is large but well laid out with all hardstanding pitches and very clean facilities. You get to choose your own pitch, but please don't arrive before 1pm as the access road is fairly long and single track with few passing places. Latest departure is 12 noon. In theory this keeps the access road clear. The staff are not being awkward, just sensible. The site is surrounded by trees which gives it a secluded feel and there is an excellent play area for children which is situated to one corner of the site. If you don't want to hear children playing, just pitch away from it; there's plenty of scope. There are also two central grassed areas which are designated for play, so ball games etc are allowed. If you don't want to be woken before 8am, pitch away from the road as, although it is generally very quiet, the tractors which service Jungle Kingdom, start running at 8am and can be quite noisy. There is also a fire alarm test at Longleat House at 9. 30am on a Friday which sounds like an air raid siren, so don't panic! The site shop/reception is stocked with the usual essentials and if you haven't got one, you can buy a 25m digital TV cable from the shop at a cost of £15 which gives you excellent TV if you need it. There is a Sainsburys and Asda five miles away and a KFC, Pizza Hut and Mcdonalds so you won't be stuck. There is a mobile fish and chip van on-site twice a week and you can wander in to Longleat grounds and use their restaurants and cafes between 10am-5pm daily. Make sure you print off the 20% discount off food and retail vouchers from Longleat's Caravan Club 'hidden page' and take your Caravan Club members card with you as Longleat staff will ask to see it. You get them back to use again so no need to take a pile of vouchers in with you. In the Tropical Storm Restaurant, Adult's hot meals are £8. 95 and children's hot meals are £4. 95 before discount, but there are other outlets selling burgers, pizzas, baked potatoes etc. They also take the discount vouchers so plenty of choice if required. When you walk into Longleat's grounds from the caravan park, you get free access to nearly everything, including the Jungle Kingdom (zoo), Bat Cave, Hedge Maze, Train, Rockin' Rhino Ride, Mirror Maze and shops and food outlets. You WILL need a day ticket to get on The Jungle Cruise, Castle Adventure Playground, Safari Park Drive Through and guided tour of the private apartments in Longleat House. The 1 day or 2 day tickets are available from the 'hidden page' with a greater discount than the normal online prices, however you have to choose a date. I was informed that if I went to Guest Services at Longleat with my Caravan Club Member's card and receipt from the Caravan Site, I could get the same discount, which is useful if you're not sure what day you'll need your ticket for. If you can connect to the internet, you can book your tickets up to midnight before the day you want to visit. You just need your booking ref, member's card and receipt and collect from Guest Services. There is paid for wifi via the caravan site which was quite reasonable at £10 a week. Another tip is that if you want to have a walk round the public accessed areas inside Longleat House itself without a ticket, then go in via the back of the house where there are two shops. Go through the shops and into the house that way. If you stay on this site, you literally have a free zoo on your caravan step. If you have kids, it's a must. My youngest got to handle two snakes, two tarantulas and a hissing cockroach. We also stroked thornback rays, walked with penguins, meerkats, marmosets and fed nectar to lorikeets (£1 charge). There is also a brilliant parrot show every hour. Staff at this caravan site are extremely helpful. There is a family room showing a family DVD at 5pm every night and they have a great supply of tourist leaflets if required. I felt secure on the site as you have to enter and leave with an electronic fob issued after you have pitched up. This stops non campers entering the site in a vehicle. The only other places we visited this time were Wookey Hole, Wells and the Haynes Museum, however, Frome and Bath are also easily accessible.

No issues getting to the site - simply followed the Caravan Club recommended route. Site is a decent size, pitches are spacious and well tended, as are the sanitary facilities.

Club member discount for safari park entry was well received and the day there was so good we booked a second one! But avoided the monkey enclosure second time round due to the state of our aerial.

Can't fault the Caravan Club sites very much - slightly more expensive than private sites but you know the standard will be high. And look at the location. Hearing seals and lions in the night was an unusual but fun experience for the kids.
