Third time at the site for us now and we never get fed up with it.great lay out. Nice attendents and a real family site. Please though, Doncaster Council, get the showers and toilets sorted, everyone complains. May I suggest the council employ a warden like last year! As a family we would recommend the site to any new or first time campers, as we did with our friends.

Wanted to visit my friend in Doncaster. Long way to go for a few days so thought I would take my children camping for a week. Searched the net for a suitable campsite near my friend and found Hatfield Waterpark. Looked good, activities for my 3 children to do so sent for a brochure via e-mail, it never came. My friend sent for a brochure and it was with her within a few days, she sent it on down to me in Portsmouth. Water activities plus more at reasonable prices. Great I thought, that's where we'll go so I booked it. We were all looking forward to going, the kids getting excited about the things they could do. When we got there Wednesday afternoon, the staff were friendly. I filled in the forms and pitched the tent, all was going well. That night the heavens opened and oh boy did it rain. The next day my two eldest went to book some activities on the water. They were told the activities were only run on Wednesdays and weekends. Naturally they were very disappointed. Nowhere in the brochure or on their website does it say this. They give the impression that all activities are run all day everyday, I was not impressed as this is why I chose this park in particular. Now on to the toilet facilities. No plugs in the sinks and the showers far too hot. It was very hard to stand under them. I was unable to give my 4 year old a shower because they were so hot. However the facilities themselves were clean. The park itself was well kept, short grass and clean. The play park was my youngests favourite place to be. My two eldest enjoyed their stint in a double canoe and single kayaks. The village was 5 minutes away and the supermarket 15. We twice had dinner in The Bay Horse pub in the village and the food was excellent. If you turn left out of Old Thorne road and keep going straight into Thorne there are more pubs to chose from. Unfortunately I didn't realise this until the Tuesday before we left when I drove through it on my way to somewhere else. Thorne looked a very nice place to visit and take a stroll. I think to make the park more attractive to visitors they should invest in a pool and some sort of hut with amusements and games for the older children and maybe an on site shop. If there was more to do on site I wouldn't hesitate to take my children and my tent back to Hatfield Waterpark.

Wanting somewhere which would accept a trailer tent and a van for a 1 night stay too break a journey of 185 miles we decided on this site for its convenience. OK so we didn't arrive until after 8pm. But to be expected to pay a £20 deposit for the use of the toilet block and then to be expected to pay the deposit just so we could empty our porta potti into the elsan point, a bit greedy don't you think? There were other campers letting their dogs run loose with no leads in sight and a lack of dog waste bins, no wonder other people were letting their dogs do their business anywhere. The lack of night time security is also very poor

We were disappointed with this site. We paid for our 2 night visit back in May, I wish I hadn't as I wouldn`t have stayed. I paid £20 returnable deposit to use the toilets and showers, they weren`t kept clean, my husband commented that the mens were disgusting. They only cleaned them once a day which on a large site isn`t enough. When we arrived there was litter and items of clothing left all over. On our second day we complained to reception, someone came and removed the rubbish but they didn`t clean the disgusting mens toilets, infact they locked the worst two up then they couldn`t be used. We spoke to a few people who weren`t happy with the standards, they said that last year there was a warden on who kept it in good condition. It`s a shame that the council have let this site get into this conditon as with the proper care this could be a good site. Also the barrier into the site does not work so anyone after 5.30 can just pitch up, we saw this happen.

We have now been to Hatfield Water Park twice. The first time was August 2005 to try out our new tent, it was excellent then and just as good this time. We went for the weekend with our friends as they had bought a tent and wanted to try it out - they adapted very well and are now looking for a bigger tent! We all enjoyed it and the weather was on our side too (will not mention the heavy rain on the Saturday night!) With Hatfield only being a 5 minute drive away from our home it is ideal and you feel as though you are further afield. We are booked in for August bank holiday and are looking forward to it. The site is well laid out and has individually numbered pitches some with hookups. There are several woodland areas situated around the site which adds to its excellent look. The children have a playground which is safe and secure. The only down side to the site is the conditions of the toilets and showers which have worsened since our first visit. We would recommend the site to any happy campers. Richard, Clare and James.

We did not have a pleasant experience on this site, the toilet facilities were dirty (despite needing a £20 deposit for a key). We couldn't even face the showers! We were exciting about trying the climbing wall advertised, but this needs to be booked in advance and is only for groups £80. The party opposite us didn't turn their music down until after 1am and then made lots of noise until gone 3am. The party on the other side were shouting, screaming and driving cars about until well after that. Being a site with lots of children the noise started again at 7am. Glad to be home and get some sleep!

I thoroughly agree with Andy Fee's comments. We had two nights at Hatfield and can not have wished for a better site for a short stay. We took advantage of the water sport facilities on offer both days we were there and found them to be professionally managed and extremely good value for money. As we are only 13 miles from the site we will be using it on a more regular basis. I would definitely recommend this site as a stop over for anyone travelling long distance. Well done Hatfield!

First off let me start by saying this was my first camping experience in a tent, and a very enjoyable one it was too.
We arrived just before the site office was about to close (at 5.30) but were given all the info we needed about the site by a very helpful member of staff (as were all the staff we came across ). After pitching the tent and going for a wander around the park we realised what a well looked after place it actually is, the toilet block very clean with good facilities and a good indoor area to was pots and pans, the grass was kept short and the whole place was very tidy and well kept.
The overall atmosphere was very good and made it a very pleasurable place to stop, there were lots of kids about the place but there is enough slides and other playground stuff around the park to keep them occupied and amused, without them over running the place.
On the Sunday morning when the staff opened up there was still more for them and us to do, with the great lake to go either canoe-ing or sailing on and a fantastic climbing wall (well supervised too) to have a go on, in fact the only thing that could have made it a better place to stop would be the addition of a small shop.
Overall we thought it was a great campsite, and would recommend it to anyone, especially for a first camping experience.

I originally stayed here in 2004 just to try out my new tent, as it's only a few miles from where I live. That was when the campsite was run by the warden and his wife. It was very pleasant. I think that now the warden has left, as there was no sign of him on this last visit. Although we were told that there was to be no noise after 11pm, we were kept awake both nights of our stay by people shouting and making loud animal noises well into the early hours. There was a £20 refundable deposit for the key to use the facilities on site. The only problem with these is that the showers were too hot and had no temperature control. The prices for use of the waterpark were very reasonable - just over £11 for 2 Canadian canoes for an hour. Be sure to take all your food and provisions with you, as there is only a vending machine on site, from which you can buy drinks, sweets and chocolate. Luckily, it is pretty close to civilisation if you do need anything during your stay.

This site is not far from us, so we thought we would try something close to home. The website and other reviews on this board seemed quite favourable, however something must have drastically changed since these reviews were written. This is a council run site, which I thought would mean it had high standards - quite the opposite. Children aged 8 & 9 were openly walking around the site drinking bottles of beer and when I went to the toilets one of the same children was urinating all over the walls. The grass was approximately 1 foot high and the site was generally very untidy. The big shame, is that this site could be lovely. The water park is very nice and there is a lovely walk around the park. To ensure I am totally fair - let me say that it could have purely been down to the people on the site on the weekend we visited
