A proper good old fashioned campsite. What a gem. The scenery can't be beaten. Pitches right on the edge of the loch. Friendly welcome. But we must thank the owner Scott he was marvellous! On the way from loch lomond a van whacked our wing mirror of the motor home and this smashed the passenger side window to smithereens. Being an A Class motor home virtually impossible to replace within a week or two. On arrival Scott bent over backwards to help us repair the screen supplying two sheets of perspex, silicon, grinder etc and two hours of his precious time, allowing us to continue on our adventures without getting wet ( it is Scotland after all) ! What a beautiful brilliant friendly site and we highly recommend a stop here when visiting the hghlands. A big thank you and hope to visit again!

Spent three nights at the this superbly located campsite, right on the shores of Loch Leven. The pitches are not defined, you just find a suitable place close to one of the sporadically positioned hook-up points and with each one catering for four sockets, your 25 metre cable could be used to its full extent.
We had a fantastic loch view for the first two nights, positioned right on the bank, but as we needed to go to Fort William for a day and because we were in a Motorhome and the pitches are not defined, when we returned someone else had claimed our spot. Not surprising really, but he selfishly parked his caravan with the car still attached across the way, effectively taking up an area two could have occupied.
The toilets were satisfactory, with signs requesting the lights to be switched off and doors closed at night to keep out the midgies. They, incidentally, we're not an issue during our stay, as the heavy rain and gale force winds kept them well away. Ah, the Scottish summer weather.
There isn't an awful lot to do here because of its remote location, so if you're coming with kids and the weather was as poor as it was when we visited, be prepared for lots of 'I'm bored' complaints.
We cycled the five miles to Kinlochleven where there's a pub, shop and a magnificent Indoor Climbing Centre where you can not only learn traditional wall climbing, but indoor ice climbing too. There's a cafe, kids play area and an outdoor clothing shop in the building too. The cycle back won't be for everyone as it is on a looooong gradual uphill climb.
Glencoe is about a 10 minute drive away and Fort William about half an hour.
There is no shop here, but you can obtain replacement gas cylinders. We didn't use the laundry area but the dish washing station was fine, with two sinks, but open to the elements on one side, as well as the midgies I'd imagine.
Overall, a nice site in a great location with adequate facilities, which would be even better if you're lucky with the weather.

Stayed here for 5 nights. Brilliant location, the views are truly majestic, rugged scenery and you truly know that your in the Scottish highlands. As regular campers the scenery at this campsite is the best we have seen so far.
The midges here were pretty awful but we have experienced worse, we did bring along plenty of repellents. Facilities are very basic, ladies washroom was reasonably clean and have been told by my partner that the mens were covered in dead bugs. Washing up facility had two sinks and was outdoors which attracted the midges and bugs. The laundrette facilities were good. Campsite was kept clean. The cons would be facilities needing a bit of care and updating, camp pitching distances should be enforced as on the last day we had a loud family pitch too close to our tent that the guy lines crossed over which took away our privacy and would have most definitely ruined our holiday if this had taken place at the start of our trip, also a 'no noise after 11pm' rules should be put in place to create a more family friendly campsite, if these slight issues were to be addressed this would be an amazing campsite! However we would return if stopping in the area again.

Just had a fantastic 8 nights at Caolasnacon, we stayed in one of their static caravans.
This is an absolutely fantastic site for amazing views, you've got a loch, mountains, ever changing cloud formations and when the mist rolls down from the mountains or up from the loch it adds a certain eerie feeling to the whole place.
Only down side was the midges! At dawn and dusk there are literally thousands of them! You can't step outside without some kind of repellent on, and that only stops them biting you, not buzzing all around you in swarms! Still it didn't detract from the beauty of the place and the photos on their website really don't do it justice, I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the area.
Will definitely be visiting again, but maybe outside of June -End of Aug when the midges are at their worst!

Stunning location and eye-watering scenery. Pitch where you can worked reasonably well.
Superb base for cycling, walking, fishing, kayaking etc. Basic facilities but clean.
The midgies were occasionally a bit of a pest - but not too disruptive. Unfortunately we were 'surrounded' by a family group of tents partying till 2-3 in the morning with earplugs as the only defence. It quietened a little after words with the owners but not much difference. If you want to avoid this, then I guess Glasgow holiday weeks are the ones to miss. But a great place none-the-less.

We spent a week at Caolasnacon and overall we loved it. We agreed it's one of the best sites we have ever stayed at, owing to its jawdropping beauty.
There are stunning 360 degree views to satisfy even the most discerning of scenery snobs. The outlook is ever changing with the tides of the sea loch and the sky casting cloud, shadow and rays of sunshine upon the surrounding (almost encroaching) mountainsides. It's an easy 10 stars for location. The photos on their website don't actually do it justice.
The facilities are nothing fancy, but during our stay they sufficed well enough. The ladies loos, showers and sink areas were always clean and serviceable.
The laundry had two washing machines, but one was out of order during our stay. While I didn't have a problem doing a load of washing myself in the daytime while the campsite was quiet, I can imagine queues and frustration during busier periods.
The dryer was top notch, drying my family's big load for a pound.
The dishwashing area let the facilities down a bit to be honest. There is only one sink for all, in a tiny, dark cubby hole round the back of the laundry shed. Even though the site was quiet, there was often a queue. Washing up in there was horrid because of the midges. You needed the light on to see, but because the sink is essentially outdoors, it attracted a huge, thick cloud of them. It was a pretty unpleasant experience and something that could be improved.
It is worth giving the midges a paragraph of their own, for at Caolasnacon they are absolutely ferocious. For at least two hours at sun up and sun down, it is nigh on impossible to sit out, so keep this in mind when planning your day. We quickly learned when to cook and eat outside the tent to avoid the worst of them, and even at that, we have come home covered in bites. The Caolnasnacon midges don't quite top the nearby Red Squirrel Campsite's infamous midges for viciousness, but they're a close contender for the Midgie Cup all the same. If you have any faith in midge repellent, take it and make it the first thing you pull out of your car boot when you arrive.
During the week we stayed busy going trekking and waterfall spotting. We took the kids for a ramble through Glen Nevis to see Steall falls, and we climbed up to the Lost Valley at Glencoe. One day was a real scorcher so a picnic and swim at Glen Etive was ideal. We spent our evenings toasting marshmallows over our lochside campfire, next to our very reasonable £20 per night pitch. If you stay at Caolasnacon for six nights, you will get a seventh free of charge. There are EHU points here and there on the site which you are welcome to use at no extra cost too.
There is no specific playground for children, but there is plenty of space to explore so our lot (12, 6 and 5) were never bored.
The owners are very friendly and helpful. It is a relaxed, easy going site, with no militant set of rules to adhere to, which is just how we like it.
We would definitely return to Caolasnacon for another stay. I would have given it ten out of ten in the overall rating but for two things. The dishwashing area, and the midges. The former the owners can do something about, the latter they can't.
It's worth it for the scenery though - it's breathtaking.

Had a fabulous time. Maggie and I had just bought all the camping equipment we thought we would need and headed off without pre-booking anywhere. We are both 'new' to camping. We decided on Caolasnacon as our neighbours recommended it. Initially it was going to be a couple of nights to see how we got on. Ended up staying 7 nights. The campsite is fabulous. Breathtaking views, not bogged down with rules and regulations. Just common sense, don't leave litter. No loud noises. Pick up dog poos and don't light fires on the grass. Showers and washing facilities are warm, clothes washing facilities basic but great for what you need, wifi available (though we didn't use it) electric hook up if you need it. Ballachulich is nearby to get main provisions. Kinlochleven has a smaller CO-OP store with basics. We even got our last night for free. One thing. Remember to take midgie repellent. All in all. Can't recommend it enough. We will be going back soon. Oh and Maggie caught a sea trout and I caught some mackerel. Result. !

This is the best campsite I've stayed at. If you want a relaxing camping trip with stunning views and friendly people then this is for you. Me and my wife stayed for Three nights and yes the midgies are really bad at times but mainly just at dusk and dawn. I found the best way to avoid them was having a fire on the loch shore. The near by village of kinlochleven has everything you need there is a coop a pub and a cafe. We visited the nearby Glencoe which was beautiful would definitely recommend a visit but get away from the road and explore. Overall the views are out of this world the campsite is great and has clean toilet/showers and I can't wait to visit again.

This is an amazing site!
The friendliest of people. Great facilities, all kept very clean with fantastic showers. Wash up, washing machine and tumble dryers. Recycling. WIFI - £10 for the week. Excellent full-bar reception on phones. Mesmerising mountain-flanked moonlit loch views. This site has everything without having lost its charm. We don't use hook-up but there were plenty available. Children had a lovely time on the lakeshore and loved the fact that the tide would bring new mussels every day.
Midges visit a lot but this is a small price to pay.
£19 for a large tent; for us two adults and three children. We paid for 6 nights and got the 7th free so it worked out at just £16 a night.

Great location. loads of space. no regulation. facilities good. distance to shops only draw back, you need to shop when you are out, but it was no problem to us. Kids loved it, had to drag them in at night. owner very attentive made sure you were happy. Dont camp by the hedges for shelter (midges). Down on the waterfront is better and the view terrific. Plenty to do in immediate area
