I'am a regular visitor to this area, and especially this campsite, due to my love of hillwalking and fishing. When in fishing mode I bring my Kayak up and spend the evening catching fish only a few feet out. The views are breathtaking and to think, if you are fast enough, electricity is available just about on the waters edge is just brilliant.

I have in the past camped beside the small stream beside the owners house, where you pay, and had to leave due to the midges. There were just to many and my children spent a lot of time crying due to them. Getting a spot next to the waters edge often delivers a breeze which keep the wee beaties away.

Haven't lit a fire here yet due to me always fishing or playing football with the kids but you are allowed on the banks of the water. There is a trampoline for the wee ones to play on and it even withstands adult's weight ;)

There is kinlochleven 5 minutes away by car, should you need to top up on food and drink.

Great site, great location, great fishing.

Writing this is making want to go back again :)

A lovely site if you want to go back to basics. The shower/toilet block was clean but dated. You can set your own temperature on the showers.

There are no marked pitches in the Loch side field, this may become a problem if the site gets very busy. The electric is on a first come first served basis. We where told that we could not book in advance.

There was no children's area but there did seem to be a lot of room for them to run.

The views all around the site are stunning. The people running the site were helpful and friendly.

For shops you have to go either into Kinlochleven or Glencoe but there is a bus that runs reqularly from outside the gates of the site in both directions and not to expensive for the return fare. The bus going through Glencoe also goes right up to Fort William.

Would we go back, certainly. This was our second visit the first one was 5 years ago.

Amazing site, located on the shores of loch leven.

Group of us in 3 tents picked are patches (can get boggy) their had been some heavy rain, take some rock pegs near the beech is a bugger to get normal pegs in.

The views are spectacular at all times of day, far enough away from major population for some amazing bright stars, kayaked up the lock and had a friend along with us a small seal.

Cant wait for next year as this will be the base camp for us.

Staff were great. The showers are best earlier rather than later. As for midges I must be impervious to them as I was the only member of 6 that hasn't been bitten, the others look like they have been half eaten, so take the above advice of mossy nets.

Excellent site with some of the best views I have ever had from a campsite. Friendly, extremely helpful staff, good facilities, and plenty of them, and within just a few minutes drive of Glen Coe.

Site is large, but spread out enough to feel isolated, with the sea-water loch just feet from our tent, and with the caravans hidden from sight by strategically placed trees.

Will definitely visit this site again.

Really nice location and fairly cheap compared with other nearby campsites (£18 with EHU, although think it's the same price without EHU).

Showers & Toilets: 3 showers for each sex and although campsite was busy for the jubilee weekend we didn't have to queue and water was always warm. Showers and toilets not always very clean though and never actually saw anyone cleaning them (looked like they just got a quick wipe over) also shower cubicles were fairly small with only one hook for clothes, towel etc.

The one dishwashing sink was always busy and there always seemed to be a queue, not to mention it was the gathering place for half the midges in Scotland.

Facilities for kids con sited of a trampoline (no safety net, if that concerns you), a small tyre on a rope swing and a grassy area to play football.

Nearest shop is about 4 miles away, in either direction, to the Co-Ops in Kinlochleven or Ballachulish or the Nesta(sp) in Glencoe. Morrisons in Fort William is the nearest large supermarket about 18 miles away.

There appears to be no organisation or supervision of the camp-site. You pay at the entrance and off you go, find your own pitch, hook up etc. No marked pitches and people basically pitched where they like (not complaining just stating) could have been a problem when it was busy as some tents seemed a bit too close for comfort especially those right by the waters edge.

Best thing about the campsite is the scenic lochside location and undoubtedly the worst thing is the midges. Apparently following the mild winter it is a bad year for them, bad as in there are millions of them, and can make it impossible to sit outside the tent in the evening. On the anti-midge front, we tried everything. Citronella candles, Skin-so-Soft, DEET.

The DEET only worked if it was half an inch deep on your skin and the buggers drowned in it. The only effective remedy was to buy the midgproof head nets and cover up as much as possible. You could buy them in the shop near the Co-Op in Kinlochleven for £5 or save 50p and get them in the fishing/gun shop in Fort William. Don't buy the cheaper plastic ones as the mesh is too big to keep them out.

Local area: Cuil Bay had a nice shingly beach where we had a midge free bbq and also a fire on the beach. Lots of nice walks in the immediate area, we walked up to Blackwater reservoir above Kinlochleven (7 hours total) and met a couple of other walkers who hadn't seen anybody for 5 hours!

The local visitor centre in Ballachulish has lots of leaflets and does a very nice breakfast, doesn't open until 09:00 though.

On the whole not a bad campsite and I would probably use again if I was in the area.

Visited this site for the first time in April. Stunned by the beautiful scenery and peacefulness of the site. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. Toilet areas were spotless in both ladies and gents and showers were always hot. Despite the site filling up over our few days there, there was a family atmosphere on site and everyone very friendly, other campers having obviously been there many times before giving advice on the fishing. Site well laid out and beautifully maintained. We day after we arrived we had snow which only added to the fantastic scenery and did not put us off at all. Great base to explore surrounding area and we loved it so much we are heading back there next month again. Would recommend this site to anyone.

Probably one of the most beautiful places we have visited. The camp itself is lovely, split into two parts with statics at the top end and tourers at the loch side. I must admit that it looks a bit dated and neglected but the views make up for it.

The toilet block is old but clean and functional although it's situated at the top of the site near the statics for some reason.

Would we return ?

Probably. The only thing that put us off and put a slight scar on the night was the disrespect from a few in motor homes. Dog left to wander round, drinking and loud talking past midnight, throwing empty bottles into a box etc.

I never thought I'd hear myself say this but the rules need to be enforced.

At the end of the day £18 per night for a large tent and 2 adults and 2 children plus dog and electric. Worth the money.

A playground would have been nice for the kids if we were staying longer.

We were told about this site from a friend who has visited several times over many years. We first came here in 2010 & couldn't believe the prices & value for money.

We enjoyed our time here & decided to return this year. We are a large family & the cost was only £17. 00 per night! compared to other sites in the area , this is a bargain!

Free showers, were always clean & tidy but could do with an upgrade, & plenty of space to do your own thing pay & pick a spot what more could you ask for.

Spectacular views & a very relaxed, friendly owner. Kids loved the beach & made their own fun paddling & catching crabs.

We also had the pleasure of watching RAF jets flying through the valley at a very low height! A nice drive into Kinlochleven shops & Glencoe only a few miles down the road with good facilities.

Will definitely return & tell others of this hidden jem.

We arrived at this campsite, really friendly reception, and then you just get on with it. The site wasn't too busy when we were there so it was great re: facilities, but I can imagine in summer the sink area will be getting queues as there is only one washing up sink.

The location is fantastic, at the head of the loch at Glencoe, stunning views.

We were going to pitch by the loch side, but it was so windy we had to really go as close to the steep bank as possible and get in between other tents. You must beware that during windy nights this is VERY windy little glen, as the wind funnels its way into the glen from the mountains, our tent was buffeted around like sails in high seas. We heard from other campers several tents have gone into the loch and even caravans parked too close to the shore, so go for shelter rather than picking the obvious beauty spots. Winds can change very quickly.

When it's really windy there are sheltered spots for tents near the shower block.

Showers were good and basic, plenty of sinks, and well cleaned.

Value was OK at £16 for a 4 man tent (2 people) and we had our dog in with that.

We fell in love with caolasnacon as soon as we got there. The owner was really friendly and helpful, and we pitched up in front of the loch. (BEST views!)

If you love your walks, fishing, wildlife photography, this is the best place to come- grey seals, otters, golden eagles! If you enjoy fishing, don't forget your kit, but, if you want to give it a go, a rod can be picked up cheaper in Fort William, (fuels cheaper here to!) Just remember to take ALL rubbish with you, children and dogs play in the loch, and a hook in the foot CAN be painful! If you enjoy your cooked breakfast, a tip here, save the fat off the bacon, and introduce the kids to crab fishing, Its great fun, and kept us oldies occupied for hours! Just be aware, a fisherman caught a stonefish just off shore, so wear footwear when paddling!

Also be mindful, the midges ARE Scottish, we took 100% deet, and citronella, and its just seen as a challenge! If you go in midge season, we would recommend a head net and hat, and put repellent round your ankles, (even in trousers!) These midges wear kilts!

A co op is approx 3 miles from the site, a wonderful seafood cafe/ shop is at the other side of the loch, and a small corner shop is just in glencoe. Facilities are basic, but very clean, and we are definitely returning!
