Almost stunning views. Pitch anywhere, whether for shelter from the wind, or for shade, or for the views.
No need to book - a nice woman comes round for payment in the morning.
Three large hilly (but landscaped for plenty of flat areas) fields. The grass was like a lawn, with pegs going in easily. Other campers were quiet. Zero road noise.
But long or wide vehicles could have access trouble, and miles of single track roads would make summer weekend travel to it a nightmare.
£6 per person, plus £1 per tent and £1 per car. £1 for a four minute shower. No hot water, toilet paper may run out, but enough toilets and hand basins. And clean enough for my woman and me.
Quite busy on our Monday night in late July. But not crowded.
One of our top three favourite campsites (see Low Wray and Rydal Hall).

After about 20 years I returned to this site. It has expanded with moor camping area and showers. The shower timer could do with a extra 1 min adding on especially if I was to use the site in the winter. Apart from this what a lovely site. This would be a brill site for the moor adventures kids young and old. Nice pitches among the cragy outcrops adds to the setting. Easy access to the coniston fells and wallna scar.
Overall rating 8 shower fix would get a 9. Don't do 10 as there is always a bit of room :-)

This site was recommended to us. It is in a beautiful location which is not the easiest to get there by campervan from the north. Access from the south would be better. The site is peaceful and very relaxed. The price is about average at £6 per person, £2 for the van and £1 for the dog. I was disappointed to find that the showers were an additional cost though.
Although we usually use basic sites I think this one is better suited to tents.

Just back from a quick overnight at TURNER HALL. And am happy to report that it is just as idyllic as all the previous occasions that I have camped here.
Prices have stayed the same at £6 per person £1 per tent £1 per car and £1 a dog, all per night.
Toilet and shower facilities are spotless and the showers are powerful and hot £1 for four mins, which I find is plenty long enough.
Location is as stunning as ever and we were blessed with the most glorious hot weather ( I even swam in the stream nearby)
Only ourselves and one other couple on the whole site, and as usual a well deserved walk down to the NEWFIELD INN to round off the day with local ales and pleasant staff.
As I`ve no doubt said in the past, a fantastic site for relaxing

Had a fantastic time at this quiet, beautiful campsite.
It has a lot of flat pitches available and you are able to pick and choose where you want to pitch. It was a very sheltered campsite as we didn't feel hardly any wind, (then again we were very fortunate with the weather).
The staff were warm and friendly and the toilets/showers were basic but clean, (£1 per 4 minute shower but they were very hot!)
There was a little swing for children to play on but most of them loved climbing the big rocks scattered around the site, they loved it!
The only criticism I have was the amount of midges! But once we had the BBQ going it got rid of them. They only became a problem from about 7pm onwards. Next time I'm going to invest in insect repellent!
There was a pub just down the road (5 minute drive) and a nice village nearby (20-25 minutes) which we went to to get meat for the BBQ from the butchers.
It was fantastic value for money and well maintained, we had a great weekend away.
Will definitely be going again.

A secret is just that, something that should never be told. We are quite new to camping, but have found a site we would return to time, after time, after time. I've argued with myself 'til I'm blue in the face whether I should submit a review! The reason? The more people that know about this site, the less likely we will be to get a pitch. Set amongst scattered boulders from another time, the site is a wild campers dream. The nights are quiet and the days are an explosion on the eyes. No set pitches are given, yet the natural landscape ensures the site is never overcrowded. The surrounding hills offer access to a walkers dream, whilst twitchers will marvel at the birds of prey floating overhead. The facilities are immaculate, the showers warm and the toilets spotless.
Don't come here expecting pampered luxury, that defeats the object of this wonderful campsite. Turn up, pitch up and enjoy camping in a true, unspoiled campsite.

Another visit to this site has proved a what a beautiful setting this site is in. First day there was fantastic and sunny. Second day was a bit wet, but never mind ( watch those midges though )Only myself and travelling companion in one field and two other tents in another field so perfect and peaceful ( just what we needed ) Walked mountains and hills on the daytime then walked down to the Newfield Inn in the evening, perfect combination for a good nights sleep.
Would recommend everyone tries this site ( but hope it does not get too crowded or attract the wrong crowd )
Fees have slightly increases this year. £6:00 per person £1:00 per tent £1:00 per car.
Well behaved dogs welcome £1:00 per night.
Showers £1:00 for a powerful, hot good 4 minutes.
All in all a very nice site, wild camping but with good showers and toilet facilities.

Excellent campsite run by such helpful and kind people. On the way to St Bee's we broke down on Wrynose pass so we called the AA. They told us 3 hours maximum but after 5 hours of waiting we decided to just walk and see if we could find somewhere to stay for the night.
By the time we found this campsite it was almost 10pm but the lady that we spoke to allowed us to use her phone to call home and then showed us around her campsite. She gave us advice on the best place to pitch our tent and then told us if we needed any help then we should just knock.
In the morning we were able to see the amazing surroundings of the campsite. Beautiful place to stay. We took a stroll in to Seathwait where we used the telephone.
Unfortunately when the AA arrived I could not find the owner of the campsite to say thank you for helping us. So if you do read this then thank you ever so much.

Brilliant campsite in a magnificent location. Has all the feel of a wild camp with some amenities on hand. Stayed one night which was dry and pleasant and with only a handful of other campers it was very quiet and serene. Stunning location and for £7 excellent value. The local, the Newfield Inn is only 5 mins down the road and it is a cracking pub. I will most definitely come back up here in the autumn and the winter.

Just got back from Turner Hall after spending 4 nights there, what a beautiful spot, owners are very pleasant people and a very relaxed atmosphere.
Weather was a bit wild the first night but did improve, gave me an excuse to wander down to the local pub where just one pint of a local brew helped me sleep a wonderful nights sleep. Helpful lady who takes the site fees advised me of an easier route home so as to avoid Wrynose Pass (My poor little car thought she was being punished).
I will definitely be visiting this site again and would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone else.
P. S. Site fees are collected in the morning and are a very reasonable £5 per adult £1 per tent £1 per car. Showers £1 for 4 mins and are wonderfully hot power showers.
Well done Turner Hall ***** five stars for you.
