What a fantastic site in a fantastic location.
Stayed for a walking / climbing weekend with a group of friends.
This is how most sites in this area of the Lakes used to be - just turn up and pitch. You pitch where you want and the friendly owners come round to collect your money in the morning.
The site is three craggy fields with a track running through the middle. The site is undulating and owners of larger tents may find it difficult to find a level pitch to suit but there are no such problems for smaller two / three man tents.
The facilities are basic compared to some of the commercial sites. There are separate toilet and shower blocks that were spotlessly clean (showers - £1 for 4 mins) and an uncovered pot wash area. The site has no shop but does sell eggs. The nearest shop is a twenty minute drive away.
The nearest pub is a ten minute walk away, it servers good food anf beer but can get busy on Friday and Saturday evenings. That could be something to do with the fact that it is th eonly pub in the valley.
The Duddon Valley is a lovely, quiet, unspoilt corner of the Lake District and Turner Hall is an excellent base from which to explore.
Would I return? Absolutely YES.

A lovely campsite. Showers and toilets very basic and did require more cleaning. One day we had no hot water, tried to get hold of the owners but they were not in.
I did feel that since it was the bank holiday weekend, there should have been someone around to help us. But overall a lovely site.
Showers £1 for 4 minutes I though was a bit expensive. The best part was the coffee man who stays over for the weekend.
There is a pub nearby which served lovely food and the staff were great. Make sure you have all your provisions as there is no shop near by

Great campsite which has awesome views and, with access to lots of trails from the campsite, it's well placed for outdoor activities. We found there was plenty of room to spread out and have some privacy, it felt like wild camping with the benefit of hot showers - even if they do cost a pound for 4 minutes!
The only very minor drawback was that the facilities may be a little basic for some tastes but they are clean and functional.
A couple of big bonuses in my book are that the narrow roads, tight turns and steep hills mean access is too awkward for unsightly caravans and lack of appropriate entertainment means families with noisy kids would have a better time elsewhere.
If you're planning to stay for more than a night or two I'd recommend bringing cooking facilities as the food at the Newfield Inn is a little on the pricey side.

Lovely site in a brilliantly quiet and beautiful area, which is a long way from most places. It is a lovely site which is basically 3 craggy fields with a track running through it.
It has lots of great nooks and crannies so you can pitch up and feel like you're the only person around. The site owner comes round the next day and you can camp anywhere. She was very nice and friendly.
The pub serves lovely beer and food and is 10 minutes walk away.
The showers are basic but kept nice as are the toilets. It could do with a bit more cover for the washing up and that's about it on the negative front. A lovely campsite in a lovely area and I would recommend it.

Excellent site, showers and toilets clean. Nice setting, we were in an 'overspill' field which was still lovely, plenty of rocks etc for kids to climb on, nice staff (site fee's collected in the morning, 8.30 ish).
Roads very narrow in parts to get to site. Lovely pub a short walk away with nice food, beer garden, children's play area (which is just a fenced in field!) but handy for kids to run around. Will definitely be going back.

Fantastic, we have been twice now in successive weeks and cant complain. The site is out of the way and very quiet, loads of walking to do and the scenery is beautiful, highly recommended.
The site owners collect payment in the morning but usually around about 9am which is not an inconvenience, she is very pleasant and informative, loved the pub (11 mins to walk)gets busy on Saturday night, beer is superb (dickie doodle). This site suits proper campers

We stayed 2 nights at this site in the middle of October and were blessed with beautiful sunshine for the whole weekend. Somewhat novel for the Lake District!
Our unit is a Land Rover 110 with a rooftent and we wanted a quiet and basic campsite to use as a base for fell walking with our dog. I initially selected it following the reviews from this website and also because I'd seen several sites stating that small, open fires were permissible. Unfortunately this information was either wrong or out of date because fires are not/no longer allowed on the site. Not a big issue and our barbeque sufficed more than adequately.
Whilst staying, there was one other couple in a small dome-tent on the Friday night and two other tents that arrived on the Saturday. This meant we had the place almost to ourselves and due to its wonderful layout of sheltered rocky outcrops to pitch between it was a wonderful weekend. The showers and toilet facilities were clean and well lit and the owners very friendly.
This is a perfect base for Walna Scar and the Old Man of Coniston and the views from the site are lovely.
The local pub is a pleasant 5 minute walk away and serves real ale and a good selection of bar food, although other than a portion of chips and some olives to go with our beer we cooked on the site. The pub is dog friendly too which was a real bonus.
Having read some of the reviews of the approach on the Wrynose and Hardknott passes I found these really enjoyable to drive.Yes they are steep and winding with large drops but certainly nothing to worry about in good weather conditions with a mechanically sound vehicle.
This site is a little gem and we will be returning again in the future.

WOW! What a beautiful site!
We arrived for a weekend at Turner Hall farm in the pitch black, having been rather unlucky with bad traffic on the way there. We pitched in the top field near to the toilets and showers (pitch where you like, the farmer comes to collect your money in the morning).
When we woke in the morning we couldn't believe the stunning view, absolutely amazing.
The site is a series of very pretty fields with craggy rocks, a stream at the bottom. Its really lovely.
The showers appeared to be newly renovated, and were spotlessly clean. £1 for 4 minutes seemed a little bit steep, not really long enough if you need to wash your hair. No electrical sockets anywhere, so don't bother taking your hairdryer.
The separate toilet block wasn't as new, but also very clean with loo roll, hand soap and paper towels provided. No hot water though, which was a little disappointing.
The dish washing area is a hot tap on an outside wall, with a wall with a slate top for a kitchen surface. A plastic washing up bowl is provided. A shelter would be a good addition, I hate washing pots in the rain.
There is a pub nearby, but we didn't visit so can't comment.
We spent a day at the nearby South Lakes Animal Park, absolutely fantastic for families with children. We hand fed Giraffes, penguins, Limas, kangeroos and all sorts of other animals and learnt a lot about animals and conservation. This place knocks spots of longleat and costs half the price to visit.
On our second day we visited Muncaster Castle, again a fantastic day out which we didn't do justice to, though the castle itself was a bit boring and we wished we'd paid the lower price for the grounds only ticket in retrospect.
Now a word about the Wrynose Pass. We followed the Sat Nav instructions and ended up going over this road in the pitch black (in 1st gear for the most part due to the 25- 30% gradient).
Quite frankly, it was terrifying and I wouldn't want to do it again. We saw several people who had pulled over and looked resigned to spending the night in there cars.
Also, the sat nav told us we were at our destination outside another farm house about 500 yards from the entrance to Turner Hall. Luckily the owner there is used to mis guided campers stopping outside her door and has put up some signs (which we missed because of the dark) and came out to help us when we pulled up.
We'd approached from the M6 way, and the farmer told us that there was an easier and quicker route avoiding the Wrynose, but because it isn't as direct the Sat Nav avoids it. We followed that route home and it was much easier.
In short, if you're heading to Turner Hall, don't rely on the sat nav to get you there, I personally would avoid the Wrynose, but it will be well worth it when you do get there!

What a fantastic find, beautiful scenery and very picturesque site. Will visit again. In fact we're we will be there again next week.
The site is hidden away from traffic in a secluded farm,in a valley. The facilities were basic but adequate,if we wanted more we would have stayed at a hotel. The only fault if I can call it that, would be to have more W.C's,even if they're just the portaloo ones that builders use,but the exercise did me good.

Brilliant place - the nicest farm. Somehow achieves the right balance between 'au nature' and civilization. Look out of your tent in the morning and all you see are mountains (ok - depends a bit how you pitch your tent). Duddon valley is wonderful, genuine and untouched by the curse of Beatrix Potter.
We were there Aug bank holiday week - and although more tents arrived at the weekend, it still didn't feel hemmed in or 'full'. Plenty of open space.
Pub is good (£2.50 approx for choice of 4 local bitters, £9.50 for huge gammon egg & chips) - tends to fill up early with families eating.
Downsides: not a lot to do in area if you are not into walking/ mountain climbing (which is good - deters 'tourists').
