We ended up here after a 7.5hr hellish M6 drive from London, our original choice of campsite was full so we headed on to Turner Hall Farm which was our back up plan - although we weren't too happy at the time after our long drive, now we are thrilled the other campsite was full as we would never have ended up here otherwise!

It was a great site, beautiful views, short walk to a fab local pub, lots of walks to do (we had an amazing woodland walk complete with bluebells to ourselves), facilities were basic but clean, no caravans (roads far too narrow), no electric hook ups. Fees were collected daily by the owner's wife.

We don't have children but all of the children staying here seemed to be having a fantastic time - they loved running around the rocky terrain playing hide and seek etc. We made one trip to Windermere (horribly touristy) and couldn't wait to get back to the Duddon area.

We also visited Beatrix Potter's cottage - worth it but get there very early or you won't get tickets (it was half-term) - also it's worth knowing that even if you do get tickets it's timed entry so you will probably have a long wait to get in (we spent our 2hr wait very happily in a nearby pub where we had a gorgeous lunch next to a log fire).

On our next trip to the Lake District we will definitely stay at Turner Hall again.

The site is well kept, friendly laid back owners, fantastic facilities, (£1 for 4 minutes) but nice showers. They do go cold during peak use but come back on pretty quick. The toilets are perfectly fine and clean.
It's one of those hidden gems, far enough from the beaten track to keep the erm, casually camper away who feel camping is bringing the city with them but not too far away for those of us who enjoy the experience.
The Dudden Valley is breathtaking and we all enjoyed it and will be returning. The site was of a reasonable size and had some slopes to it but overall the positives far outweighed the negatives of which there were few.
There is a local pub, nothing to speak of but perfectly ok and beer is beer, food is average but keeps you alive. I think the lager was about £2.80 and Bitter about £2 with food being about a £10 depending on what you had, portions were large and I'm not complaining.
If you’re after a relaxing place to camp, walk and chill out a bit this is the site for you. If you’re after tourist places to visit, ice cream vans and plenty of pubs then it's not.

Last minute decision based on great weather and friend's recommendation - and it was great (and only about 45 mins from home but opening up a new area of the lakes for us.)

Last weekend of the Easter hols so site not chocka. Peaceful, secluded site with a range of areas for pitching. We were trying out new large tent so really pleased to find plenty of level space at further end of site that was quite empty, even though there was a motorbike rally of some sort also there, plus quite a few people. A bit of a walk to the loos but not a problem.

Very pleasant and helpful owner just comes and collects fee in the morning, and happily let us leave tent up til afternoon so that we could get a walk in.

Loos great and clean with plenty of paper and even paper towels for hands. Shower area looked good but we did not actually use them. Hot tap for dishes was only lukewarm when I used it but it was 11pm - so possibly that's why.

But be warned about the way in and out! Never mind Wrynose!, the actual farm steading you have to go through is very narrow and a tight dog leg. We just made it in a Fiat Scudo LWB - so on the way out asked about the large vehicle route (which BTW is clearly marked on the approach to the campsite - you go through a gate and round a rough track - we just didn't realise then that we were a large vehicle!) However, it is a very rough and undulating track and because we have a wheelchair adapted vehicle with a lowered floor our exhaust is ridiculously low and we caught it at least once (luckily no damage). Not criticising the site for this - just a caution to anyone else with a low slung long vehicle!

We will definitely be back - with smaller tent, smaller car and hopefully equally great weather!

Now onto the issues that we always have to consider - wheelchair access. No specific disabled facilities but no step into either ladies or gents and one of the ladies loo cubicles was larger than average. Showers have either step or level access and again no separate disabled but one of the ladies (I didn;t see the gents!) was pretty large and so room to manoeuvre a chair I think (but of course nothing to sit in to have shower or anything)

Camping in the first section of the site would be OK for power chair users because levelish - however further onto the site (ie where we were!) the terrain gets steeper and the road / path is steep rough hard core so not great for gripping. My son made one return journey to loo area in power chair but had to go on grass and even then only just managed because of skid (and he's fwd). We used manual chair to go to the pub and it was quite a slog getting back up road to farm (and my son is 11 and skinny!)

- But all worth it for the view when we woke up.

Went with 3 friends to this very quiet site. Weather was lovely when we got there; clear, cold but dry and the views superb. Then came the wind and rain! We washed up after our tea to luke warm water which was unexpected as the shower block and facilities were clean and modern. In the morning I went for a shower which was also cold, again disappointed as this site was recommended. Maybe we went on a bad weekend.
Site owners friendly and laid back. The route there a little awkward over the pass but quite fun, not for the feint hearted. Would like to return in the summer perhaps will be a different experience. No shops so go prepared! Saw signs for local pub and had breakfast seemed clean enough and quality of food average, reasonable prices.

This is a great campsite. This is possibly the friendliest campsite we've ever stayed on.

The weekend we stayed, the campsite was 'hosting' a BMC meeting, so could have been considered busy. However, we turned up at about 9.30pm on the Friday and still found plenty of space (although the flattest parts had all gone!). There was also a school party there too, but they were separated in the far field. The owner came around to collect the fees about 9am the following morning - £5 per person, £1 tent, £1 car and £1 dog.

One thing we DID find annoying was the amount of midgies! Nothing the campsite could do about those though.

The toilets were clean and the showers hot (£1 for 3mins 57secs) and never seemed busy, even with all the people on the site.

For such a busy little site, it was very quiet in the evening too.

The pub - the Newfield Inn - was really just what you need for a local - good beer, good food (£10 for a beef stew main course is not cheap in my book, but they have a captive audience and heh - we were on holiday!). I bet everyone from the campsite was down there which made it just as friendly.

We can't wait to stay here again!

We stayed at Turner Hall over the bank holiday weekend. It was very busy with extra fields opened up, but it never felt crowded. The shower block is great and the toilets etc. Very clean. There is a hot water tap on the outside of the shower block, but no sink so take a washing up bowl to put on the big slate topped rock.

I'm writing this in the desperate hope that someone else who stayed there has found my daughter's much loved (and rather manky) stuffed toy 'doggy', easily confused with a rabbit. If so the campsite has our number. Thanks

What a great find! This is a superb Campsite with really friendly helpful owners. The views are stunning, and because of the layout, you can camp in your own area away from your neighbours in amongst the rocks. There are also some great walks around here.

The pub is a short walk away, though I wouldn't say the food was brilliant.

The beer is ok though, and it is dog friendly.

Lovely little site if you like peace and quiet and gorgeous scenery. When you arrive you just pick your place and put your tent up. There are some lovely places and most are quite private because of all the large rocks and stone walls. Facilities are basic but pretty clean, no hot water in the toilets and you have to pay for showers - £1 for 4 mins. No plugs anywhere either but the lovely farmlady did blow up our air beds for us without a problem. Great walks to do from here and a great pub too - as mentioned by other reviews. Would defo go back as all in all its a lovely site and our daughter (and us!)had great fun climbing the rocks and exploring.

Delightful camp site. Beautiful scenery. Wonderfully peaceful and it has a stream and river running through it. If you like walking there are also plenty of walks.

We visited on August Bank Holiday (we decided to camp three days before and it was the only campsite that said it might have room!) and although it was busy there was still plenty of space as extra fields were opened up.

The toilets are basic, as has been said, but they were clean enough and there was always loo roll (no mean feat on a bank holiday!) and surprisingly there was never a queue even though there were only two.

The roads leading to the campsite are small and windy and it is quite difficult to find as there are no signs and only a very small plaque on the entrance saying "campsite" but these are the only potential downsides to this lovely place. I only wish it was nearer to home so we could visit more often.

Was going to Chapel Stile in Langdale but the local hostelry was closed due to a fire, so plan B Turners Hall was hatched. I do not get over that way very often and I am glad I did. Turners Hall is a great site  with little rocky outcrops all over the place which offer a little seclusion, there is a beck flowing along one side of the site and terrific views of Harter Fell, Dow Crag and Caw. Facilities are basic but v clean and owners friendly. Good pub 10 mins down the rd with good beer, good selection of home made food, friendly landlord and they allow dogs. Will go back again.
