Not a bad site on the whole. Not our usual choice but nearest one to where we needed to be.
This site is probably most suited to families looking for outdoor activities for the kids. We found the booking-in system via the reception desk of the visitor centre very impersonal. We are more used to wardens who welcome tourers and show them to the pitch.
The facilities are accessed with a code and are reasonably clean. I think the floors were mopped early each morning but, there was evidence that the toilets, wash basins and showers were not cleaned. The same dirty marks, toothpaste blobs, scum marks and shower gel streaks, etc were there day after day. There isn't a plug in a single one of the wash basins and the taps only trickle water at best. There is no natural daylight in the toilet/shower block and as the light works on a sensor it is a good idea to take a torch into the shower. If you aren't quick enough the lights go out and plunge you into darkness while you're getting dried/dressed.
The nearest drinking water point was out of order - no real big deal but why not just get it fixed?
It was quite pleasant listening to the nearby water rushing by behind the trees but not so nice hearing the kids shouting and screaming as they played on the provided activities. I've nothing against kids (I've got some of my own) but why have play areas right behind the tourers.
There is a good chinese takeaway in the village. There is a pub (The Castle) not too far from the end of the main drive entrance and it is dog friendly. This site is a little isolated for those who like to do shopping/eating out etc within walking distance.
Nice site just not our cup of tea. Sorry.

Just spent a beautiful weekend at this lovely site and booked to go back as we left, we loved it so much!
The staff were really friendly and helpful and the warden takes so much pride in the site. The site rules are the same as for most places but, unlike some campsites, you don't feel like you are being monitored all the time yet the staff are around if you need them
The layout is very good - 3 areas of the same size with 8 hardstanding (pea gravel) pitches in the first section, then a grass area with about 10 pods and then an open grass area. We stayed on the hardstanding (first time for us) and would go back to the same pitch every time, it was perfect. Pitches are varying sizes but all very spacious with grass surroundings, paved paths and edged by a low level railway sleeper wall. The site is beautifully maintained and extremely picturesque. The surrounding area is just stunning with a river close by (lovely to listen to whilst relaxing on a sunny day), a fishing lake at the top of the site and numerous walks all around. There are metal animal sculptures dotted amongst the trees too which are fun to look for
The toilet block is large and very clean. The showers aren't hugely powerful but are electric and very warm plus you get a little lockable cubicle with a walk in section to change in then the shower with a curtain. The campsite was full when we stayed yet I only had to queue for a shower for about 5 minutes on one day
There are plenty of drinking water taps, a waste disposal section and kitchen area. As others have said, the oven didn't look too great but we didn't need to use it anyway. There's hot water for washing up with bowls provided and plenty of drying space. The nice thing is that the facilities are made to blend in so the taps and waste areas are contained behind wooden panels and plants which all adds to the charm of the site
There is a well stocked cafe on site which is very reasonably priced - we had a large plate of nachos with dips and 2 bottles of coke for just over £5! If you want to cook your own food though there is a huge Tesco and Aldi just a 10 minute drive away or several local takeaways deliver to the site!
There is a very small playground for under-7s and the site is very dog friendly - they are even allowed to swim in the top part of the fishing lake! We must have seen around 100 different dogs during our weekend (all on leads, of course)!
All in all, we can highly recommend this campsite and it is now our favourite to return to time and time again

Stayed here whilst trying out my tent for the first time. Ive got to say this site is a little gem its local to where I live and have never thought about using the camping facilities lesson learnt. Greeted in reception staff very friendly told to drive up to campsite and shut gate every time not a problem (gate does need fixing as it drags across floor) pitch was at the far field nearly level apart from the odd dips.
We found the pitch very spacious as we have a big tent the only downside to the pitch was the constant noise of the stream not too everyones taste but it didn't really bother us you get used to it. Shower block and toilets really clean and warm, diswashing facilities fantastic, plenty of water points around the site didn't want to use the oven in the kitchen area could do with a clean to be honest. All in all this campsite is great and its on my doorstep will return soon.

We spent 5 days in one of the 'Camping Pods' at Cwmcarn and had an absolutely wonderful time.
The site is as near perfect for us as any we've used. Not too big, friendly, clean and adequate facilities, secure, I could go on and on enthusing about this lovely little site!
This would be a great site in any location but the setting in this breathtaking valley makes it hard to beat. We'll be back soon.

Arrived without having pre booked, the grass pitches were all booked, but on explaining that we needed a hardstanding (rooftent) all was well and there were spaces.
Nice area, quite a long way from shops so stock up before you get there. It is in the middle of the forest with lovely walks and mountain bike trails.
There is a river which runs in the vally below which can be heard from the site. The visitor centre has a cafe but this closes at five pm.
They have had some problems with security and bicycles being stolen so ensure that you have adequately protected yours, there are bike safes available although we didn't need to use them so I don't know how much they are.
The pitch was £15 for two people and this included showers, and use of the mountain bike trails.
We will be going back at some point with friends to do some more riding in the forest.

A fantastic site and one that we regularly stop at en-route to the Gower.
The site has been significantly revamped since our last visit with hard standing now available on the majority of pitches (and by the looks of the big pile of gravel in the middle of the top field this is work in progress.
The bottom field changed and separated off for large tents with a separate car parking area, the middle fields now has the very trendy 'pods' for glamping, they were all empty when we were there but I imagine for people looking for a cheap holiday without the hassle of wet tents these could be a good compromise.
The toilets and shower block were spotlessly clean and showers were nice and hot. There is a kitchen and laundry room with facilities to wash dry and iron clothes but as we were only there one night we did not use these.
As the site is on the Cwmcarn Forest Drive there are a multitude of walks and some very tough mountain bike trials that can be accessed directly from the site, as another review has said maps of the walks are available from the site shop for 15p, we did a couple of walks the two days that we were there and found the little maps to be mostly accurate and useful.
The shop is more a tourist gift shop than a campsite shop, although it does have a nice cafe at the back which is very reasonably priced.
The only slight niggle that we has was we couldn't use our chocks to level up the camper on the hard standing, they just kept slipping on the plastic griding that has been put in place to keep the gravel contained, as we were only staying there for one night it wasn't too much of an issue but if we'd planned a longer stay or weather had been more typical for the season, it would have been as we couldn't get the fridge running due to the slope that the van was on.

Lovely little site, with great access to the forest drive, the downhill track and the twrch trail. Also loads of really pretty walks, maps available from the visitor centre for 15p.
The shower/toilet block was nice, clean with lovely warm, spacious showers. Kitchen area ok, with big sinks for washing up, washing machine and dryer and a freezer. There was a small cooker in there but it didn't look very clean.
Nice level pitch, with plenty of room for the motorhome and a drive away awning. Bike lockers available. Hardstanding pitches with good drainage meant we didn't need to put a groundsheet down. Pegging it down was difficult due to the type of stones !
There was a tiny little park at the entrance to the site but really only suitable for under 3's. Our kids enjoyed playing in e wooded area behind the pitches, although got eaten alive by midges.
No tv signal, no internet, no mobile phone signal. All in all a lovely little site, would return for a weekend.

Returned today after a weekend camping at Cwmcarn Forest with my family.
Upon arrival Friday afternoon the staff were friendly and clear about our pitch and all facilities available to us, this included free showers, toilets and kitchen. Comprising of oven with hob and grill, very good washing up and food prep area. All very clean I must add.
The views and walks breath taking and even our 6 year old appreciated the stunning scenery and wildlife.
We acknowledged the consideration of other campers and over all very happy with our stay at Cwmcarn Forest. Will visit again for sure. Very pleased with everything.

Great little site. Well organised and immaculate. Very clearly defined pitch spaces, glad I'd notified in advance of having two cars for one tent and happily used visitor centre car park as advised to.
Pitches almost regimented and very glad I didn't get allocated one of those with gravel on as some tents had. Don't like to think about how my tent groundsheet would have dealt with that!
Toilet and shower facilities good, spacious, clean and good quantities. Nice to get decent free showers. Didn't check out the kitchen or laundry facilities and didn't use the lockable bike lockers although I was kind of excited to see those on a campsite, and would seriously consider in future.
Definitely a family site. If swarms of small children rushing around and hanging out bizarrely by the toilets is not your thing then don't come here.
It's clearly advertised as a family site so you do get to make that decision, and I was happy with mine. As usual, the plus side of this is no real adult late night noise or beer fuelled racket (other than the parents of course!).
Shame there's no children's play area of any size here really, or that parents aren't interested in taking the kids to play on the climbing frame etc. At the visitor centre 2 mins walk away.

We stayed at Cwmcarn Forest Drive for the May bank holiday. Breathtaking views in a beautiful location.
We relatively small caravan (12') and trying to reverse onto the pitch was a real challenge. Our hard standing pitch had a steep incline which meant it was almost impossible to reverse the caravan onto the pitch without first of all grounding the rear of the caravan and then the towbar. It was very tight for space and the hard standing pitch was in poor condition and uneven. Owner's Response: New hard standings have recently been constructed, no complaints received prior to this.
We took in in our stride and planned on having a nice weekend break. The night we arrived, the toilet block was immaculate. However come the morning things started to go downhill.
Come the Saturday morning, the gents were flooded from a leaky toilet and the showers. Neither the ladies nor the gents had been cleaned and the kitchen was in a similar condition. We informed the visitor centre where the very helpful lady assured us something would be done so in good faith we went out for the day. Response: There was no leak from the toilet, the amenity block is cleaned every morning prior to 8am, the block would then be cleaned the following morning.
When we returned, the toilet block still hadnt been cleaned and to make things worse I even saw people taking their dogs into the block! Response: This will be addressed, whilst we are a dog friendly site this is not acceptable. I returned to the visitor centre and spoke to the warden directly who was very unhelpful and said he was surprised how dry the floor was, even though you could see the person doing their business in the cubicle next to you because the floor was so water logged. Mud everywhere, soap scum, toilet paper and pubic hair was not my idea of an acceptable toilet block. We did not use the facilities anymore and could not wait to leave very disappointed. Response: Wardens and management inspected the amenity block and found it to be in good working order, the block was well used (as the site was full) but the floor was dry and the showers clean.
At a quieter time of year I expect the services may be better
