We stopped for three nights overall site was ok, indoor and outdoor pools and games room were ok. The unisex toilets we had to use were always out of toilet paper and didn't look very clean, and they had carpets which were all wet in some cubicle's, don't think this is very Hygienic. Camping field ok bit uneven in some pitch making it awkward to pitch tent level. There is a pub next to the castle on the site which looked cosy but we nrver used it.
Lot's in surrounding area Kirroughtree forest is brilliant for mountain biking & walking, there is also Glentrool forest just north of Newton stewart both part of the 7 stanes. Newton stewart, Castle Douglas are only a short drive away

I just back after spending an (almost) perfect week at castle cary. Its the first time we have visited ( myself and husband and granchildren) and found it to be a friendly site where people were more than willing to help each other out.(thanks to guy who helped fix out tv and who caught and returned our dog when it escaped)
There is an indoor and outdoor pool which was well used by everyone, no matter what the weather.
We enjoyed a meal at the lairds inn, the on site pub which was very nice if a bit expensive.
There was also a small crazy golf for the kids and a play park.
Despite the sometimes wet weather we explored a lot of the area around the park, walking for miles through the woods which the dogs loved.
I would definitely come back to this site but would definitely request a pitch which was not really near the reception so as to enjoy a more peaceful stay.

We started camping last year, and our group is made up of two families, Three adults & four children and other friends who sometimes tag along, castle cary was our first camp site that we found totally by chance, and are so glad that we did, we have been countless times and it is the perfect campsite if you want to spend time with your family, play games with your children, relax, be yourself, and make lots of friends. Where else would our children play for hours (NOT IN THE SWING PARK!) But In their fantastic den in the trees, The staff are so friendly and are always there to lend a hand or give advice on where to go. The pool is great, the outdoor one is warmer than the indoor. And the camping park is a wonderful large flat area which drains very well during wet weather.Ideal for rounders and other family games. Newton Stewart is 5 mins down the road with great shops to stock up. We will be returning soon so far been three times this year,,,cant wait till our next trip!

Really loved this site. Only a shame it is such a drive down the A road. On a bank holiday it is well worth the trip. Lots to do in the area.
The pub is lovely on the hill with the castle.
Only downside was the awful unisex toilets. If they were replaced, we would be there every bank holiday.
Newton Stewart only 10 mins drive for shops etc.
Galloway Forest Park 10 mins away for walking, biking etc.
Has crazy golf, swimming pool, games room, giant draughts and not too noisy.
Would recommend. Loved our stay.

Stayed here early July 09, lovely clean site. Large shower cubicles, clean toilets (nicely heated!). 2 lovely pools, heated outdoor and indoor ~(minimal charge for indoor but worth it). Ducks, geese and numerous rabbits run freely, very cute ;o). Great lake for fishing, spent 2 days getting tanned caught 15 fish, mostly tiddlers but some bigguns in there too. Great games room for the kids - pool, snooker, arcade machines etc. Well stocked and very reasonably priced shop (Magners only £2 per bottle gets my vote). Castle Douglas half hour drive, beautiful part of the country to walk or relax or have a stroll along a beach, if you can find access that is! Lovely walk through the forest into Creetown and only 5 miles from Newton Stewart for all your main supplies, including camping shop for the last minute purchase of new tent pegs. We been 5 times this year and will return again and again. No restrictions on big tents so plenty space for all, including the dog. Highly Recommended!

Just camped here for a few nights with kids and had a whale of a time. Kids loved the outdoor pool and playpark and the wife and I enjoyed the views and the meals at the on site pub. Its the fifth time we have visited as we love this site.
Local village has shops, cash machine and butcher and is within walking distance and the new road has just been started so hopefully we don't have the steep right turn for too much longer.
Definitely worth a visit

Had a lovely time at this site. It was a big improvement from last year. The owners are trying hard to make this site top class. I am pleased to say that they are getting there. Showers/toilets kept clean, bins emptied, grass cut etc. Indoor pool was nice and not busy, worth paying the charge that was asked. Staff very friendly and helpful, nothing was a problem to them. Biggest change for the best was the onsite pub. Last time we were there the pub was terrible. It was not clean, food was terrible and the staff were the untidiest we have ever come across. Now it is a pleasure to go there. Creetown is a small village next to the site with a newsagents, butchers and the like. Only downside is the entrance to the site. It is off a busy trunk road and it has a horrendous dip just as you go into the site. Marks are clearly visible where vans have been damaged upon entering or leaving the site. Owners are dealing with this at present by putting in a new access road. We'll be back soon I hope. Thanks for a lovely few days.

We had a fantastic time, the people we met were fantastic and very very helpful. Our first girlie camping trip and yes we forgot the pots and deck chairs however we had a number of people from the site offering us things and we were very grateful to everyone. The shower area and toilets were very clean and very spacious. We never managed to get the swimming covered but we will however be back again. Lairds Inn had not long been took over by John and Jane and what a fab place to eat, we would recommend this to everyone. I am aware that it didn't have a good reputation for previous owners, the food was fantastic and very large portions, the welcome and service was very very good.
We would recommend this to anyone of any age.

Spent 5 nights here and had an enjoyable time. Found site a bit expensive for what you get but I've been assured that the owner is in the middle of changing all this. Good facilities for the kids, they loved the pool, even if it was raining. Showers were well kept and plenty of hot water to hand. The one big let down was the pub on site! We had dinner there one night and it was revolting. We were not the only ones who shared this opinion. A nice place for a quiet drink but please forget eating there, better to go into Creetown and enjoy a decent meal for less than the price you pay for swill at the Lairds. Will visit the site again next year, hopefully Stevie and his motley crew will be out of the Lairds Inn by then.

We spent two nights in Castle Cary and we had a great time, the toilet block was clean, although the shower wasn't very good couldn't get much water pressure. They had a games room an outdoor pool, which my kids were never out of since the weather was very hot, a pub onsite which I quite liked. It was a short walk from village which was nice and full of very friendly people. It is placed on a very nice part of the world, with a few towns nearby, but I didnt go to any of them so cant comment on them. Overall I really enjoyed the site and would recommend it.
