This was our first time in a tourer - check in took two minutes, followed instructions to our pitch and were met by the serviceman who was brilliant - he even helped with the reversing.
Pitch was excellent. Concrete pitch for caravan, pebbled area for awning and grassy area for car, Electric and water all there. Electric went off at one point but was fixed within 15 mins.
Amenities were fine, better than experienced before, decent food at the on site restaurant, decent beer at the bar and the entertainment was great for the kids. Although we only stayed till 9pm. Washing up facilities and shower blocks cleaned twice per day and happy to use these. On site shop reasonably priced for essentials, slightly more for souvenirs.
Good swimming pool system - only allowed to stay for 1hr at time which is enough for kids and grown ups and you can go back later - this means it isn't too crowded for the little ones and the big ones get a turn on the slide!
Not sure about security patrols but a grievance about excessive noise from a neighbour was swiftly resolved after a complaint to reception!
Loads to see and do within a 25 mile radius - we took a 5 and 12 year old who were perfectly happy with the holiday.
All in all a good site that we would be happy to revisit :)

Booking in was simple and someone was present to direct me straight to my pitch. Staff were all very friendly.
Dedicated shower and toilet cubicles were amicable but I felt could do with a makeover. I found them in quite a state, but rather then blame the lack of cleaning, I'd say it was more fellow campers causing the mess, it was as though a pack of animals were sharing the site, leaving paper, tissue and allsorts floating around the sinks!
We eat on site and although they were busy and stated a wait, I had a good book to read and My son had the soft play area and arcade to amuse himself with! Could not find fault with food either, good pub grub!
Playgrounds located at venue were great for my prolific climber to hang about like a monkey and were in good nick!. Onsite swimming pool is a must for anyone travelling with kids but aim early rather the later as is first come first served basis (it boasts a £20 million refurbishment of Pool I cant compare as this was our first visit) Onsite shop stocks everything from food/newspapers to toys and all reasonably priced.
About 15/20 mins drive away is Mabies Farm, ideal for adventrous kids; included rope swings, bouncy castles, giant slides, adventure playgrounds, feeding animals. Spent a full day there! and on site cafe stocks sandwiches baked potatoes etc, cakes and ice cream, all reasonably priced!

We have just got back from a tour of Scotland with the last stop of 3 nights at the Parkdean at Southerness.
Check in was very quick and the pitch was easy to find, although someone from the statics had parked directly in front of our pitch and we had to wait for them to return from the beach. The Warden on site was very helpful. Security at night constantly toured the site.
I will start with the positives. Main entertainment areas are very clean with a good variety of activities to do. Food in the restaurant was good and reasonably priced although there was a long wait (30 minutes) for food to be brought to the table. The beach is very close by and there are some nice walks.
Negative. The toilet and shower facilities on this site are the worst I have ever used! Mouldy shower cubicles and they were filthy constantly despite them being cleaned 3 times a day.
Filthy sinks, toilets, no toilet paper or soap. This is mainly due to the cleaning staff not having adequate equipment (Mopping floors with towels and using same cloths to wipe toilets and sinks!) and the fact that some people cannot clean up after themselves.
It was a busy weekend and I was disappointed at the state of the toilet facilities. I complained twice about this but no improvement was evident. Not enough toilets/showers - There are only 8 ladies and 8 mens toilets for 100 pitches. I would not return to this site again because of this.

Checking in at reception was fast and simple.
The pitch was level and a concrete base (although some pitches were not as level as ours) and there was a hardcore area adjacent for the awning. All the hardstanding pitches had a tap and drain adjacent to the electric hookup and this was very handy for when we were using our shower.
Shower/toilet blocks: These looked as though they had some internal work done to them recently, but basically are badly designed. My wife and daughter refused to use the ladies due to the state and I persevered with the gents.
Six shower cubicles (each cubical had a toilet and hand basin) and a single toilet and hand basin, this all shared amongst a large number of caravans and campers. No urinals, so often would have to wait to use the facilities. Felt very sorry for the campers.
The one entrance to the gents had a door without handles (just a few big holes in the door from previous fittings) and there was no outside light above the gents, so it was a pain when trying to enter the combination code on the other door. Oddly, only one door had such a lock, the other was unlocked the whole time.
There were numerous notices up (one in the gents!) saying about the £2 million pool upgrade, which was indeed very nice. However a few thousand pounds spent on the toilet / shower blocks would have been money well spent. Just replacing the worn out doors would have been an improvement.
The shop was good with lots to offer. The on site bar and entertainment area looked clean and new (I suspect part of the pool upgrade).
Alas, I don't think we will be returning anytime soon.

The reception area looks very professional and it only took a few minutes to book in. The pitch we were directed to already had someone on it, so we had to wait about 20 minutes to be directed to another one. Good shop on site and surprisingly reasonably priced. The bar also was quite good, although the food we ordered there wasn't much good.
The toilets/showers were OK - although most of the blokes ones wouldn't lock! They didn't look like they were cleaned that often either.
The pub down the road does some good food and decent beers as well.
The price for two nights for our tent and two people was £58 - which I thought was very expensive. The site we went to next was only £31 for two nights and was twice as good.
Not horrific but I wouldn't go there again.

We Have visited Southerness 5 yrs previous and loved the site so decided to go back. I was very disappointed.
The cleanliness of the site has deteriorated and we had to ask reception on several occasions to send someone to the shower block to clean and fix the toilet paper dispenser. There was a bucket and mop left in the corner which we were told was for us to clean up behind us - which we did but it was obvious that not everyone used them.
The pool has now a first come first served basis and only holds 25. Unfortunately we were in a group and in the whole four day visit none of us managed into the pool together. We even got there half an hour early to wait and we still only got the 4 oldest kids in.
The Venue and the Coast Bar are very good and I think have been Renovated since the last time I visited as the 'Entertainment' area. The soft play was great for the younger ones but had a tendency to attract the older kids as the night wore on. There were far too many fruit machines for my liking and the Play till you Win was out of order as was the Candyfloss machine and the vending machine required a visit from one of the staff to retrieve your sweet as it never fell properly.
The Shop was well stocked and very reasonably priced.
The Reception staff were great as were the Security Staff and I think the Venue staff coped admirably.
I do hope that with the extension of the pool as mentioned towards the end of this year that the Shower block gets a revamp to.
Unfortunately for me this will be the last time I visit with my family and friends.

This was my second visit to Southerness.
The site is reasonably good with swimming pool, entertainment and shop. It was very good value as far as this was concerned.
There are also pubs, chip shop and entertainment venue a few hundreds yards away in the village too.
Toilets and showers were clean and adequate.
The one big negative was noise. A huge mob descended on the camp with the intention of getting as drunk and noisy as possible for as long as possible. Camp security had pulled them up before they even reached their pitch, but they challenged them and security retreated. That led to a night of hell as they partied till 4am. I see other reviewers have had the same problem.
I would have given much higher ratings but for this as I cannot rate anywhere child friendly that allows such behaviour.

Just bought a brand new caravan, spent the Easter weekend. Mixed weather cant complain, only 2 hrs from Glasgow. Pool is too small, however we been informed that they are building a larger one at the end of 2010. Great news.
Site shop is well stock also the staff where very friendly & helpful. Visited the Venue site Bar / entertainment, absolutely packed, then again we where informed it is their busiest weekend. Couldn't get a seat in the main bar so we opted for the entertainment area & had a great tasting beer. My son & I went for a stroll round the fruit machines {a little too many} play some racing games then finished off with the basket ball game, which is my son's favourite.
There are tables right next to the soft play area where the kids enter with their shoes off, some even went bare footed, personally the tables should be put back into the bar areas, my overall feeling was purely to get as much out of you as possible by means of selling more & more drinks & cramming you in.
Had a power cut in the van, called reception, they had a guy out within 15min of my call, gGreat service.
Overall: Love the site nice & tidy, cracking long beach, wont be using the venue much, wife said she will probably use it during the day & maybe for an hour at night purely for my wee girl.

There are a lot of facilities here but to be honest we didn't really use them. Took the kids swimming once but didn't bother with the evening entertainment.
Shower blocks are adequate (a couple of the shower rooms smell a bit of wee) but there is always loo roll and soap.
Washing up facilities are great.
I found the tent pitches to be cramped - I prefer to have some space. Had a great day out at Mabie Fram Park nearby - would highly recommend it!

Campsite was fine - touring area a bit big and sparse but the site aas a whole was good. Beach was very near and kids able to bike (with us) round the whole of the park as it was flat.
Washing machines on the blink when we were there and don't think this was unusual given what other campers were saying. Staff were helpful giving extra tokens for the machines but this wasn't great when I was left with a whole load of sodden dirty washing.
The main complex was spotless and entertainment at night was good if a little crowded and noisy. The only issues with this was that you seem to go through a residential area in the middle of the park so didn't feel as safe for kids as other parks have.
All in all a good park in a great location but not sure I'd visit again.
