This site has had new managers this year after last years abissmal episode with a manager who thought
She was too good for the site. Looking forward the new mamnager has made a fantastic improvement. I go to this site every other week and can say the walks are tremendous being on the Pennine Way. The toilets are old but very clean, and may be due for upgrading. The shops will need transport to get to and various good eating pubs will also. Just got back but looking forward to returning week after next.
I would like to add there is a well stocked shop on site as well as a very good food menue, pizza's, burgers, and curries are popular as well as all day breakfasts all at good prices.
You will not get a warmer welcome at any other site.
Well done to Steve, Paula, and Richard.

This is a lovely little club site that has recently come under new management. They've put a lot of effort into renovating the site and you can really tell.
The toilets and showers are immaculate and the shop is well stocked. It's a great place to stop for Pennine Wayfarers (they really look after walkers and backpackers here) and also a perfect base for exploring the Peak District National Park.
I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in the area!

What a fabulous site!
The grounds and facilities are beautifully presented and maintained. The site staff are friendly, relaxed and meticulous.
The site is level, the pitches and hard standings are generous size.
Pizzas that were cooked on site, were good, made & delivered by Steve-the warden himself.
We walked to Tintwhistle for a pint, by the side of the reservoirs. It was an easy but, rather lengthy walk fand took us around an hour and a quarter. The Bulls Head is a friendly pub, but not really worthy of the hike. Didn't seem geared up for food, but may be wrong. It welcomes dogs and is very relaxed. We got a taxi back to the site, which cost £10 including the dogs.
The walking is simply fantastic from this site, straight onto the Pennine Way within yards.
Spring sunshine made our stay all the better.
Paid £19:10 for motorhome, 2 adults ( club members), 2 dogs and electricity.

We stayed here whilst doing the pennine way backpacking, we arrived late at night after walking for 12 hours solid from Blackstone Edge and the reception was closed and it was a little late to ring the bell so we put our tents up and met the owner in the morning.
We were due to do the last day of the walk that day to Edale but the owner of the site seen I had a bit of a limp from banging my knee the day before on a rock. He strongly advised we didn't do it and on reflection he was absolutely spot on!
We took his advice and headed to Hadfield for a pint (Royston Vasey) then got train back to Manchester Piccadilly and had another pint then left walking stick in the pub!.
The site is very peaceful mainly motor homes and caravans with the odd tent.
Very clean toilets and washing up facilities and I would recommend to anyone doing the pennine way that like a bit of flat grass and don't want to wild camp on the boggy moors!
10/10 from Andy and Damo

A site with amazing views of the countryside. Very convenient for the Pennine Way. We also did a lovely walk around the reservoir over the road as well.
Wardens were very friendly and helpful and were very efficient in dealing with our refund when they overcharged us!
One of the two showers had just had a new floor so this was shut for a couple of days, something that I thought was quite bad given we were in the middle of August.
Also the toilets were not to the standard we had expected of a club site - paying £25 per night. They were cold and were more similar to public toilets with no privacy cubicles for washing. The site is also very close to the main road which could be disruptive for people in tents.
That said, we heard very little noise from the farm. Our daughter loved the wooded area and the site is open and quite spacious.
We would probably return.

What a wonderful find - just loved this site.
On arrival we had a friendly and efficient check in by Mark and Nat (come and pay when you have set up). Lovely hardstanding pitch on grass mesh. The water on site has a slight colouring but was apparently fine to drink - despite this we were told to help ourselves to as many free bottles of water as we liked for cooking, drinking etc.
The facilities were always immaculate, only 2 showers but never a queue and they were clean, warm and tons of hot water.
Wardens are forever around the site keeping everything tidy. The shop was open from 9am til at least 7pm every day - a first on any club site we have visited (both clubs) a really lovely service from wardens.
We loved the walks from the site, up the Pennine Way one day and the other we took our bikes over to the Longdendale Trail and rode the off road 15 miles, you can reach the trail without riding on the Woodhead Pass.
Lots of families on site but no excessive noise, most children seemed to play in the woods to the side of the site. No play area as such but didn't seem necessary. We sat outside for 4 days and can honestly say the farm traffic wasn't overly noisy, you really don't hear it.
This is a lovely site, hope the C&CC are aware they have brilliant wardens there who are doing the most incredible jobs - 11/10 for them at least.

I have to agree with comments that other people put: lovely calm tranquil site, helpful staff, great for walks straight from the campsite.
Stayed 24-26th May: Possible seasonal noise
The site is right next to a farm. If the weather had been sunny and you were enjoying sitting outside your unit, the constant noise of the tractor crashing and hurtling down the back road may be something worth considering. It went past approximately every 10 minutes and was very noisy.
The staff were very diplomatic in handling an incident where children had been playing in the wash blocks - asking them to let him know if they saw anyone playing with the soap dispenser because people could slip and hurt themselves.

A small C & CC main site located at the crossroads of the Trans Pennine Trail & the Pennine Way.
Crowden only has 45 pitches, 20 of which are grass hardstandings [reinforced bays with a plastic grid to support caravans & motorhomes].
The wardens were really helpful and keep the site looking pristine even after the torrential downpours that we encountered on the last day of our trip.
The small shop in Reception stocks a wide variety of supplies but not fresh bread. As digital TV is non existent, there a number of DVD’s & books available to borrow. Mobile reception was better than we were led to believe.
Whilst the facilities block is looking a bit tired, it was none the less fine and we didn’t need to queue for the two showers even though we stayed during the early May Bank Holiday.
Walks from the site include Black Hill & Bleaklow Head [both part of the Pennine Way], whilst there is the Longdendale Trail running on an old railway line adjacent to the reservoirs suitable for cycling.
Crowden is located at the logical end to the first day of walking the Pennine Way starting from Edale. After a 16 mile slog over some pretty bleak territory, I’m sure this well managed site is welcome relief for all Waysters at the end of their first day!

We spent a very pleasant weekend at Crowden receiving a great welcome from the wardens.
The site is not huge, catering for backpackers and cyclists who camp as well as motorhomes and caravans.
It is quite a way from the nearest town of Glossop so the small shop was welcome. The nearest pub/cafe was 4 miles unfortunately.
The facilities were perfectly adequate although the shower block is shared. There is a drying room which is extremely useful in bad weather.
The area is, of course, perfect for walkers.

Nice little campsite surrounded by hills. The staff were friendly and polite. While the facilities only looked quite modest they were clean and tidy and perfectly ok. The shower was nice and warm and not one where you have to keep pushing the button. Thankfully.
The site was easily accessible from the main A road but fairly remote - no pub or village within easy walking distance. Nor was there any TV or phone signal.
What you do get is lots of wildlife, hills, footpaths and walks around the reservoir. All for a very reasonable price.
So if you like to 'get away from it' - this is a very nice site.
