Stayed here for 2 nights as a base for walking - perfect location for that.
Weather wasn't kind as it rained heavily for both nights and days. Made good use of the drying room which is spot on.
Only 2 showers but they're spotless - water pressure a bit low so if you're used to a power shower be patient. Toilets and pot-washing area spotless and well kitted out.
If using a tent, make sure you have the heavy duty steel pegs as the ground was particularly stony just under the surface.
Pitch was a decent size although quite a slope on it (this actually helped with the rain run off).
I like this site and will certainly be going back. Hopefully to see it in the sun.

A lovely site with some amazing walks on its doorstep, myself and the dog very much enjoyed the reservoirs.
Facilities and drying room where very useful and warden and staff were very friendly and helpful. Just off a very busy road which can be heard a little bit on a night time but overall a great site.
Just to note there are no pubs or shops in walking distance so you need to be stocked up! However there is a small shop on site.
Overall a great site which I will definitely return to

My family and I have recently returned from a wonderful stay at Crowden site. Our weekend away started really badly after the road passing in front of the site, the route in, was closed due to a major accident thus extending an one hour maximum journey to approx 3 hours. However, we called the site to ensure that we would still be able to get onto the site despite the late time and the response we received was lovely.
The warden basically said that it wasn't a problem, we arrived when we arrived and just to do so safely. After having had very negative experiences with certain sites in the past where staff were anything but friendly and would not remain open for us to access the site even ten mins after the cut-off, this reception was so refreshing.
On arrival we were greeted warmly and offered no end of help, this continued throughout our stay and then on exit!
The site itself benefited greatly from its location and was absolutely beautiful. The showers and toilets were always clean and well maintained. The shower rooms were much larger than usual which is brilliant for young families like us.
The only thing missing from this site for us was a kids play area.
We would definitely return again to this site

Visited here a couple of years ago and had no problems, except some drunken people returning to their tents at 2am, and playing guitar (badly) at that time.
However, visited this week and found the lady who was in charge of the site unfriendly, contrary to other reviews, which put a bit of a dampener on things.
Also, unbelievably terrible midges.
The site is in a great place, but as others have said, is very remote - only really suitable for people who are happy to stay in one place or walkers.

The site is well kept and very clean, the showers are spotless with plenty hot water, the toilets are also very clean. The site manager and staff are very welcoming and friendly.
The location of the site is perfect for walkers with numerous walks straight off site. The only down side is the midges they are everywhere and a nuisance.

Camped here for two nights at beginning of May and had a wonderful time though it was cold and very windy.
Toilets and showers very clean - 2 shower rooms which are huge with loads of room. A very useful large drying room is housed in the main block next to the washing area which is undercover and has bowls and washing up drainers supplied. Small shop sells essentials.
Couldn't find any recycling bins which is a shame but it might be something that the new site manager (Mark Bell) who took over at the end of last year, could be looking to change.
Lots of walks from the campsite which is great as once you've parked up you don't need the car again till you go home (as long as you've brought all your food and drink with you).
Just a note - on the C&CC website it states that there is a play area for ball games - this is no longer the case and Mark says he's waiting for the website to be updated. There is a small wooded area though for children to play and run around and my two had a wonderful time playing on a rope swing that had been attached to one of the trees!
As we promised the kids we would walk up to the top of Black Hill (decided it was far too windy on this occasion and Mark did warn us that it would be even windier up top) we are really looking forward to going back very soon!

First visit to the site and it was great. Although the caravan club had not forwarded the online booking the site manager made us very welcome and soon sorted our pitch.
It is small site surrounded by hills roaming with sheep. There are only 2 showers but I didn't have to wait, very clean and hot.
Some walks start virtually from the gate and some nearby at the reservoirs. Please note there are no shops (on site shop though) or pubs in walking distance so come prepared to chill and relax. Only 30 or so minutes from Manchester, turn left immediately after the Crowden sign, following the signs for the YHA.
Hope to going back soon

We have just returned from a 2 night stop at this pleasant, quiet site. Unfortunately the weather was against us, and apart from a dry pitch, it rained heavily for most of our stay.
The site is small, but the pitches are well spaced and the site was clean and tidy. The toilets and showers were basic but clean with plenty of free hot water. On site shop was small but well stocked. Ted, the site manager, was helpful, friendly and seemed to be on site all the time.
The area is great for walking (plenty of easy and challenging walks). The nearest pub was The Bull's Head in Tintwhistle, with good food and a selection of traditional ales on tap. This is about three miles from the site.
The only downside of the site was our pitch. With the heavy rain, we soon realised that the pitch was acting as a bowl, and built up about an inch and a half of water for most of our stay, and relocating to another pitch in the poor weather would have been a bad idea as our kit would get wet.
We would return to the site, but would be careful about which pitch to use next time.

The site Manger was very helpful. We forgot our pans so he kindly gave us a set to use for the weekend. He was visual throughout the weekend to sort out any minor problems for other campers.
I would recommend the site it was very clean and we were given a good spacious camping area.
Having not camped for many years I forgot about the midges. We used the usual sprays and candles. But I ended up by being bitten hundreds of times.
We drove over to holmfirth, The surrounding area is well worth a visit. We will be going back again but at the end of the midge season.
Local pub in tinstwistle and chippy in hayfield was great well worth a visit

Lovely little site in the most beautiful surroundings. Toilets, washing up area, showers adequate, loads of hot free water, just lacked a good clean. Pitches where a great size, keeper friendly, just beware once the midges swarm go inside cos they are bad, the only downside really. Would go back, we got talking to one family that had been back every year and I think this is the theme be sure to pre-book as this site is popular. The entrance is very narrow, we had no problem in our vw camper, but some had to turn their units around before exiting.
