Just got back from our Bank holiday weekend stay. The site is small and clean, the guy on site very friendly and helpful and the shop / reception well stocked for snacks etc.
The showers/toilets only 3 ladies toilets and 2 showers unisex, clean but could due with an upgrade, more than adequate.
The campsite is in a great location for walkers of all experience, we enjoy walking with our dog but he is getting slightly on the old side but could manage to reach Chew reservoir great views on the way up there.
The site used for Duke of Edinburgh awards stop off, this didn't affect our stay and the noise was kept to a minimum.
Would definitely go again.

Site - Clean, tidy, peaceful and spacious.
Showers - only 2, clean, hot water, no time limit
Plenty of room to get dressed.
Shop - Really well stocked, 45p to re-freeze your
Ice packs, owner very friendly with plenty
Of advice about the local area.
Toilets - 3 toilets and sinks, clean with soap.
Hairdryer 20p lasts for about 5 minutes
Area - Beautiful with good walks.
Problems - midges at dusk, thousands of them,
Citronella doesn't seem to work.
Good pub - Golden Fleece in Holme, on a b road on
The way to Holmfirth, great pub food
Friendly staff, just fab.
Overall - 8.5 out of 10
Would I return - Yes

Just returned from a 3 night mid week break at this site. We hoped being mid week it would be quieter alas although not full, everyone seemed to bring an army of noisy children with them, not good as we chose this site hoping for peace and quiet. The showers and toilets were basic but ok and kept reasonably clean although there is room for improvement. You are asked to not use the showers and toilets between 11.00am and 12.30pm to allow for cleaning , I didn't see anyone cleaning at these times. There is a little shop on site which although is very expensive and untidy did seem to stock most essentials. The surrounding area is beautiful and a walkers paradise but it is isolated and a car is needed if you wish to shop, eat out or go for a pint. I would give this site a higher mark out of ten but at an amazingly high price of (considering the facilities) £14.70 per night for two adults and one small tent I feel I can only rate it 6 out of 10. I've stayed at much better for much less.

Just returned from a 4 - night break here and loved it! Went with husband and baby - plenty of nearby walks accessible with a pushchair. Approachable site owner, well stocked little shop, beautiful setting, showers basic but clean and well-spaced out area for dressing. Only down side was the midges. Came home covered in bites, and it was uncomfortable after 6pm as they seemed to swarm everywhere. That said, it was to be expected for the woodland setting. All in all a great holiday and we would love to return.

This site is fantastic providing you dont mind lots of noisy kids and driving for at least half an hour to get anywhere for anything.
On the one hand its great, with carefully kept grass surrounded by mature trees with breathtaking views of the high peaks and moors. Its also great for access to walks, being set right on the Penine Way. The toilet block is alright but does need renovation.
On the other hand, its absolutely miles from anywhere. There are no pubs or shops (other than the small campsite shop) within walking distance. We quickly became weary of having to drive for ages every day for anything but hiking. The site is close to a main road which is a minor irritation but this is eclipsed by the fact that this is a 'family site' with loads of kids shouting and kicking balls at your car and tent till 9:30 pm.
Generally, this site is an unhappy balance between a remote site well situated for wilderness walks and peace and quiet on the one hand - and a noisy family orientated site on the other.

This is a site that makes you reassess the value of first impressions. For instance:
On the approach and when I first saw the site my first impression was 'This is just a field it can't be a club site.'
In reality it's a lovely, peaceful little site that is perfect for weekend breaks.
When I first saw the toilets I thought 'These are very old and dingy'
In reality, although old they're perfectly clean and in decent condition.
When I first saw the showers I thought 'Never mind I'll just get a good wash'
In reality they're great showers. Very clean, plenty of temperature adjustable hot water and most importantly loads of drying/changing space. In fact they're everything that most modern blocks are not - and that's a good thing.
When we first met the warden we thought 'What a gruff old grump!'
In reality.Actually we still think that but he's really nice underneath the gruff exterior. He even lent us some balls and things for the kids to play with.
We loved our stay and weren't bothered by the midges (we use mosquito coils and they're great) or the older condition of the facilities. We can't wait to come back.

A small friendly site with all the basics : Clean toilets and showers, but in definate need of an update. Small reception/shop with milk, sausages, bacon, eggs, ice creams and a few dry goods. Lovely scenery surrounds the site and most pitches are level. For a small site it has a feeling of being spacious. A haven for walkers and for those less energetic, some fantastic drives high into the moors. Alternatively, Manchester is only app. 40 minutes away if you crave some retail therapy. Personally, the only down sides to this site are the midges (if its been raining) and the buildings, which are in desperate need of a re-vamp. All in all a great little site.

This is a nicely kept quiet site with warm (free) showers you'll never want to leave. So many midges we were spitting them out. Deet required but shop sells citronella candles. Conveniently placed on the Pennine Way. Not my favourite site in the peak district but would definitely return again if in the area.

Just returned from a spur of the moment decision to camp out following a good weather forecast and having never been to this site before decided to give it a go and loved it. A nice quiet tent only site nestled in the valley close to the reservoirs, but sheltered from the weather. The site was well maintained with trimmed even grass on a slight incline with shelter on the outskirts and middle from trees which surround the field. Yes, the showers etc are basic but also wonderful-plenty of hot water on tap without having to pay extra. Can think of many worse examples (Conniston Hall?) Little shop on site with all the essentials, and the chap inside is also helpful and will guide you to the best pitch available whilst ensuring that there is 6m between pitches. A friendly bunch on site, with a mixture of walkers, cyclists and families. When we got there there was a cricket match going on down at the bottom of the field. No noise problems at all. Not sure if there is a curfew, but by 11:30 everyone either tucked up in their bags or quiet drinking in their tents. No radios etc which often spoil some sites. Enjoyed the site and will be going back again.

First visit to this site - went along with walking club - first walk too! Pleasant little site. Maintained. Small but adequate shop. Shower/toilet block very disappointing though - very small for number of people on site. On a positive side, oodles of hot water though and foc. The charge I felt was on the expensive side considering the facilities - not particularly encouraging to want to use them! Nice location amidst lots of walks. I was there over the last bank holiday in May - and there were plenty of midges. Please invest some money into the toilet/shower block and washing up area then it would be a spot-on site.
