My friend and I took my new dogs for their first camping trip this Easter (3 - 5th April) and going to Pool Bridge was absolutely brilliant! We cannot wait to go again and explore more of Exmoor. I am also planning on taking my family as after seeing the photos they were quite taken with the place. Highly recommend this site to anyone!
The site itself is in a beautiful valley with a river running along the edge and surrounded by trees. It was very peaceful and had everything we needed. There is a toilet block, showers, washing up facilities and a constant supply of firewood/kindling, etc (which we paid for as we left). We were warmly welcomed by Tracey and basically told we could pitch anywhere and the only rule seemed to be 'only have a fire within 3m of the river'. Even though the site was about half full (it was only the beginning of their season) it was still quiet and everyone was very friendly.
For our first evening there we asked Tracey where the nearest dog-friendly pub was (she recommended Exford) so we took a brave drive out with no map. We enjoyed a lovely meal at The Exmoor White Horse Inn and they were only too happy to fit us in before their first reservation (we went at 5. 30pm but if going later it would be advisable to book as they were full from 6. 30pm onward). On Saturday we took a long walk to Porlock following the river and the many signposts along the relatively flat route. It was a beautiful path to follow - no risk of getting lost and the dogs stayed off-lead the whole way (much to their enjoyment!). While our hike totaled 13 miles, it could be made shorter by walking along the roads, taking a more direct yet hillier route and/or not going all the way to the beach as we did).
(As for any comments regarding the road to the campsite: yes it is steep and narrow and winding with a cliff section but please remember, you are in Exmoor National Park - not a place renowned for its flat, wide roads. I have an Audi A3 and it coped perfectly fine. If you have issues driving on these roads, you are either driving too fast or should perhaps look at a holiday on the east side of the country!)

Have just come home from a lovely weekend at Pool Bridge with a group of classic mini owners. Simon the owner reserved a great roomy spot for us all with a big fire pit next to the stream, we were welcomed by him minutes after we had arrived. The campsite was very busy, but still didn't feel overcrowded.
The toilets and showers yes they are basic, (with only one shower for females and one for males) so you would be lucky not to have to queue in the morning, but they were kept clean and the shower was really warm.
They have a little shop in a shed with the basic requirements and you can order sausages etc, you can also buy logs, kindling and firelighters. The shop opened in the morning and afternoon.
The owners really can't do enough for you and nothing was too much trouble, so friendly and welcoming.
We were nearly put off by previous reviews about the dangerous roads leading to the campsite, but so glad this didn't put us off, yes they are steep in places and narrow also and a small section you can see the drop down the hill (but really nothing to worry about), there are passing places too. We found it fun to drive our Minis on these interesting roads on beautiful Exmoor.
We will definitely be going back again, so glad we found it.

This was our first time staying at pool bridge and we have left and cant wait to return. Such a lovely place to camp. Great for the children, we have 4 children ages 9, 6, 3, 2years and they love it playing in the water, looking for fire wood, the best bits they said were the rope swings from the trees and the water in the river. While they were there they made so many friends. Loved having the camp fires right by the river. The welcome was friendly, and welcoming, lovely people. Toilets & Shower are kept clean and tidy. Loved having little shop for the little things you can forget. We also went on walks. So much to see and do. Pool bridge is a must place if you love the outdoors, open fires right by the river. Great people

We can only reiterate the comments in the previous review. An idyllic site with peace and tranquillity, abundance of wildlife and. Lovely walks from the site - no need to drive! The owners were very welcoming, friendly, extremely helpful and fastidious in the maintenance of the site and facilities. We went for 2 nights and stayed for 6! We will return.

Directions easy to find single track road need to let people know your coming in some areas. Campsite is located through a locked gate. Beautiful location river running through the camp site. We chose a pitch close to the river with a stone camp fire and close to the toilets ! The kids ran off to swing on the rope swings whilst we got everything unpacked. Toilet blocks very clean didn't have to use my own toilet roll hot water mirrors and an extension for hair dryers etc should you need them. Didn't use the shower but shower curtain and shower clean. Logs and kindling available to buy. Just help yourself and tell the owner how many you had. Owner and wife came twice a day 10am and 6ish. Lovely people very knowledgeable of the area took the time to talk to you. No rush to leave so no mad panic on leaving day. Lots of walks from the camp site one such walk is a 3mile walk along the river to Horner where you will find the most adorable tea shop with the best cake cream teas it's was well worth it. Kids loved it campsite is safe they go in the river collect firewood climb in the forest. If you look up at the stars you can see the saucepan. We loved this site back to nature great walks no need to drive for 3 days. Mine head has tescos and morrisons 20mins drive away if you forget anything. Can't wait to go back is much exploring to be done had a fab time the river so peaceful to go to sleep great location a hidden gem so glad we found it no electric no mobile phone sig was great

We fell in love with Pool Bridge the moment we arrived. Despite previous reviews about the road approaching the site, we found it to be fine, just a steep road.
We found a lovely spot by the river to set up camp (although there were many lovely river-side places). The site hugs the river bank as it winds up the steep sided valley through woodland. The ground is fairly level and the grass nice and soft although tent pegs hit a bedrock about two-thirds of the way into the ground, so will bend unless they are good ones.
As we were there during the colder part of the year (duvet and thermals a must), there were only a few other campers around. The sound of the river flowing over rocks meant we heard nothing other than bird song and it felt like we were wild camping without a another soul around. We were lucky to have reasonable weather and although cold we had a roaring fire to warm us each evening.
The farmer/owner came each day to check and clean the toilets which were always immaculate. There were three toilets in the ladies and also a shower and hot water to the sinks. He was a really lovely, relaxed chap and was very helpful with lots of local knowledge and advice on good walks.
Our days were spent exploring the many footpaths directly from the site, through the woodland and up on the moors. We didn't need to move our vehicle for four days. You can walk to Porlock, some 3 miles or so, following the river through woodland. The woods were wild and spring was arriving. At the end of each day we had the tranquility of the site, sitting out by the fire until darkness fell and owls called. We slept so peacefully.
We appreciate this site may not be to everyone's liking but if you want a site with basic but good, clean facilities, and peace and tranquillity in a beautiful setting, with access to some great walks, then it really doesn't get much better than this.

With the children/grandchildren back at school and an ominous weather forecast this tucked-away site was wonderfully peaceful - just the gurgling little river, at dusk owls hooting in the trees and Something gave our left-out supper plates a good clean while we slept! Luckily we'd not left anything on them that could have harmed wildlife.
Facilities basic but more than adequate - lots of hot water - and perfectly clean.
Did wonder if we'd arrived at the wrong site after reading the horrors of the approach road reviews - a delightful country road climbing steeply to give glorious views across the Bristol Channel, narrow but in no way dangerous.

Great campsite
Easy to find. Great little step up by the stream with nice basic toilet/shower facilities. Great location for some lovely walks. It was a bit full when we arrived but still managed to find a spot next to the stream and set up.
Definitely recommend.

My wife and I have just returned from this site and have to say it was a real pleasure to visit. Despite some heavy rain the site wasn't too bad with mud, but lets face it when you go camping you know you're going to get muddy at some point!. We set up near the river so we could have a fire. Fantastic site set in a steep valley. Amenities were clean and tidy and the owners came along in the morning and early evening to clean, collect money and to take orders for logs, kindling and fresh food from the farm shop. Scenic walks and a lovely setting make this campsite a real gem and we intend to visit again. As another reviewer pointed out the road to and from the site is a bit hair raising to say the least but my little Fiesta made it!. Great value for money and the location really gives you the wild frontier feel. I highly recommend this site and it wont be long until we will be rocking up again!.

The place was fantastic, lovely walks through untouched land, the site actually felt like camping with fires kids splashing round in the stream.
The toilets were clean, someone came along each day to do them.
Owners couldn't more helpful they will go into to town to get things for you and sell logs, and food
The only complaint is the road to get there is like a nightmare there is only space for one car on a cliff face with no fence, if you have to reverse back down the road like we did for a mini that couldn't get past or reverse, it's pretty horrific (especially for someone with vertigo and 4 screaming kids in the back) - idea build a fence next to that cliff face. It is dangerous or widen that last bit of road next to the cliff face it aint nice folks.
