When booking this site we broke our number 1 rule - never book anything before reading the reviews! I normally hate moaning, whinging reviews but I'm afraid this is one of them.

When we arrived we were initially impressed with the amount of space available and the fact that the tents aren't in regimented lines. However this initial pleasure soon turned to horror when we saw the facilities. Don't get me wrong, we love basic camping, but the website shows pictures of a new block which doesn't exist - it hasnt been built. Therefore it is very misleading. In fact the toilets, showers etc are housed in shipping containers and are small so you can barely fit in them never mind keep your clothes dry and clean whilst getting changed. The steps up to the containers were so steep and high children needed an adult to lift them up, even I (5ft 6in) struggled and in the dark didn't feel safe attempting it. Drainage was poor, toilets frequently blocked, the septic tank stank and water poured out of rusty cracks in the shower containers. The washing up facilities were housed in a old shed surround by bits of machinery etc with pallets forming a rickety floor. In a similar vein, there are no bins anywhere on site, just big trade waste bins outside the gates.

The worst thing is that we paid £35 per person for 3 nights. The campfire thing is also expensive - we just had a fire in our BBQ bucket. The 'firewood' is just loads of palletts which are piled up everywhere.

The ground was very rocky and hard, not just because of the hot weather. We struggled to get any tent pegs into the ground and ended up putting them in about 3cm and then bending them over. All the electric points were in the brambles / stinging nettles.

On the plus side, the location was great for exploring Dorset and the countryside was beautiful. The pitches were big and spread out and the site was easy to find.

Have just returned from this site after a long weekend away with friends ( 4 adults 2 children under 5)

The field is a really lovely camping area, but the facilities are basic. Showers are a grubby looking, and it was pot luck if you found one with hot water. The toilet cubicles were tiny as were the wash basins which makes teeth brushing and shaving almost impossible. The signs say that the facilities are inspected regularly, but I don't believe this was the case.

There are no signs to tell you where the rubbish collection point is, once you do find them they are in an over grown area (perfect for rats) and there are no recycling facilities.

Fires are allowed on this site for quite a hefty fee - there doesn't seem to be any guidance or rules surrounding these fires and during our stay other campers decided to burn anything within reach which included plastics etc.

Wooden pallets can be found in the toilet cubicles, showers and the washing up area, plus if you choose to have a fire you can burn them too.

The site is on the edge of an MOD training facility, so we often heard machine gun fire, grenades being fired and tanks.

We paid £24 per night per family and I would of expected more in the way of facilities for our money.

We were booked to stay here for a week. It was only our second time camping and we were really looking forward to it.

Well, we arrived and had to phone to be let in. There was no reception, or anything else. It was just a small field, nothing at all like the beautiful pictures on the web site or on the information sent to us. Ever the optimists we drove in and met the owner. He told us to look around and pitch where we wanted. Over half the place was sectioned off, something they didn't inform us of. They charged us for one and half pitches as we had a large tent. There wasn't one and half pitches left to put our tent up in. .

We spoke to the owner about our concerns, he told us it was better then if we didn't stay, only he wouldn't give us a refund of the 3 nights deposit we paid to him! After much going on we eventually got just over half. He kept £47 of our hard earned cash and we didn't even stay there.

We arrived on a Friday at Lunchtime, having first investigated the terrible smell that came from the sceptic tank smack bang in the middle of the first field, we decided to camp in the second field away from the smell. After setting up camp we thought a tour of the camp site facilities was in order.

On the first night there was no hot water to shower or wash dirty dishes. The uneven pathways could trouble even the most seasoned rock climbers, especially at night ! And for charging £14 a night (on top of an extortionate £27 a night to camp )for Me and my wife to have an old oil barrel for a camp fire and then the only firewood available were a load of old pallets.

By Friday evening we decided to spend the whole weekend away from the site and only sleep there.

Just got back this afternoon from our weekend on the isle of purbeck, we stayed on Luckford wood mainly because they allow open fires, We arrived at 9pm on Friday and were charged £84 for 2 nights! including £30 for the fire.

Contrary to the impression on their website, The field itself is small and pokey. The wooded area is just a small copse in the corner of the field, though to be fair on the plus side it is a very quiet setting and well maintained.

We did quite enjoy our stay but there is no way its worth £42 each, the £30 we paid between us for the open fire is ludicrous, he tries to justify it with 'free' wood, this 'free' wood turns out to be piles of spruce and pine pallets - light woods which are awful for burning. We ended up scavenging the nearby forest for decent firewood instead

Facilities very very basic but usable! Fantastic site for chilling and enjoying the true meaning of camping. We pitched a 6 man tent, 3 man tent, gazebo and two cars for a very reasonable rate and loved the warm welcome from the owner John. The best sentence we heard all week was from the owner who on arrival said 'there are no rules!' This meant pitch where you want and as long as you don't take the micky what you want. Loved our 7 nights stay and would def visit again.

We had a good weekend here.

But in hindsight this site is expensive for the facilities on offer (very basic, but they work.)If the site was a bit cheaper I wouldn't mention them.

We have simply had better facilities, both this year and in previous years for less money.

That said the fires are great and the area is great. We saw a deer wondering round our tent one night which was fantastic.

Also if you have been to this site or if you are going to it, you will find that the owner is an absolute legend in his own luch hour! Great fun!

Overall a decent site, just a bit expensive.

The price was £35 per night (motorcaravan, 2 Adults 1 Kid and two dogs) The toilets and showers are in what looks like a ISObox, xouple of sinks so small you could not wash there. The Chemical toilet disposal is a kitchen sink unit with the plug hole open, pour into sink and wash down with a hose which was lying on the grass. This unit was not signed which is surprising as there are signs everywhere, but is hidden behind a fence panel out in the open.

The web site shows 150 pitches but you would be hard pushed to get anywhere that number on. There is no shop, play park (is a sign stating no ball games) reception. Tent pegs bent as the ground is full of stones. Open Fires are allowed at a silly price which depends on a min price then per tent or people sitting around it. The wood supplied is wooden pallets which you have to break up. There are oils burning lights under trees which I was pleased to say they did not light whilst we were there.

After the drive down the country lane and nearly having a head on accident with a local, speeding the camp site was lovely. Very spacious and quiet and relaxed.

Amenities were very basic but cleaned daily. The owner was welcoming, helpful and was on site early mornings and evenings to answer any queries/sort any problems which we had none.

Kids loved the space and even found a toad living under a log under the drinking water tap.

Would definitely visit again although would prefer the shower/toilets blocks to have been upgraded by our next visit.

I arrived at a beginning of a week at Luckford Campsite. There is no reception on site and I had to phone up the owner and told them that I had arrived. I presume the owner phoned up one of my friends I was meeting there, because my friend and not the owner met me by the gate and opened up 2 gates to get on site.

The campsite sits in the middle of Army Land. I realized that as there was lots of shooting during the day going on and at night you could hear the big army tanks moving about. I found all that shooting and the tanks very disturbing.

The Campsite is not very disabled friendly. The steps to the toilets and showers are not in a very stable state and make it for a person with walking disabilities very dangerous to climb up and down those steps. In Fact there were no disability facilities at all.

Sitting around the campfire at night talking to my friends the issue came up how much we have paid for this site and we found out the owners have charged us all different prizes. The prices on the owners website are not accurate and not up to date.
