A strange site really, I really liked the site, the best spots are amongst the trees, you really feel you are getting away from it here and for £6 (a bit pricey for my liking!) you can even have a good old fashioned camp fire! this charge is extra to your nights stay so it can push the price up quite considerably, however it was fun having a fire. The downside to this site is the toilets and showers, not very clean and the showerhead looked like it had been hanging there for years! I mean how much effort does it take to make sure the showerhead is attached to something so you can actually have a shower! that aside its an ok site. Make sure you visit the beautiful lulworth cove and take the walk to doodle d'or which is gorgeous! these are 5 miles down the road from this site. All in all I would recommend the site for a few nights, but dont expect anything too special because it isnt.

A fantastic site that we keep going back to & so do our friends - having been to several campsites across Dorset and the New Forest we came upon Luckford Wood via the web and unlike most of the reviews found it to be a gem compared to the over regimented "must be within this x metre x y metre box" and cannot have a fire" sites we had stayed at before. Yes admit facilities more basic but were always clean - we have stayed several times a year over the last three years and always enjoyed the atmosphere- as have friend that have stayed there. We were warned when we originally phoned up that prices were higher as we could take up as much space as we liked etc but appreciated not being within two metres of the next tent. I should add that we have two young children and found that the site is nicely enclosed making it easy to keep an eye on the children and therefore more relaxing for us. I know each has his / her own preferences but feel that comments so far very one sided and from one type of camper! Our eldest son can't wait to go back to meet new friends.

Totally agree with the other reviews (which I hadn't read before booking), very expensive and very basic. Bathrooms are atrocious and I didn't feel that the website is at all representative of what it is actually like. It looks as if it is a large roaming site of green fields and in actual fact it is not. It is small and to my mind not at all picturesque. We did not stay as we had small children and the bathroom facilities are as basic as they could be whilst still being present and would not work at all for young families.

A very basic site - overpriced for what's there. Very basic toilet facilities which were the talking point of everyone we spoke to on the site( No one had a favourable word about them). The ground was difficult to knock pegs into, there was no shop, and parts of the site looked like a dumping ground. We noted that the pricing varied from person to person. The web site makes no note of the fact that there is an Army firing range nearby and they practice at all hours of the night. We were lucky with the weather which was the redeeming factor in what could have been a miserable week

We phoned this campsite last minute and found that there was still room to camp. The proprietor's house was situated away from the campsite and so we pulled in to the house to give details and pay our money. I was surprised to find that for a tent, two adults and two children the price was £26 per night (no electric hook up). We had not seen the site at this point and so I assumed that facilities were exemplary and above our usual standard. We were told that for a fee we could have wood for a campfire. This sounded like a good idea and we agreed. However, when the bill was hastily totted up, it came to £204 for a 6 night stay. Being tired and not in a frame of mind to question this I made out a cheque. We then proceeded to the site. My heart sank when we looked around. The toilet and showers were in some kind of mobile hut – and basic to say the least. There wasn’t room to turn around let alone have a shower with two children waiting for their turn! There was no-one on site to oversee things, no supplies to be had unless you wanted to drive into Wareham, and no ‘play area’ for children.
This was a bog standard, quiet site with basic facilities worth no more than £10 per night. Max. My partner commented that the site was interesting as it really was just a clearing in the woods and it had a back to basics feel about it and I agreed that had it been a third of the price and we were on our own it would have been an ‘experience’. However, we drove out and cancelled the cheque.
