We stayed here with a bunch of friends, 12 of us in all. Most of of us were in tents with just two of our party in motorhomes. Of course we sat around and talked about how much we each paid and there was so many differences we just couldn't work out what the 'real' price should be.

Like everyone has said the toilets are basic but adequate. I used my motorhome shower as it was far better.

We had a campfire night which we were told was going to cost £2.50 per night based on 12 so I said I wasn't sure how many would actually be there at 'fire' night and would rop off the money the day after, there was 12 of us but I said 10 to get the price down to the advertised price on the web site. It was a very laid back place but a health&safety officers nightmare.

The owner was quite a nice chap, a likeable rouge. We had to laugh when he pointed out a pile of wood that he would like us to use for the fire, we pay him to clear up his mess.

It's the sort of place where it looks like they have started a job before finishing the last one. Great location.

This site is a bit tricky to find, but when you are there there are plenty of pitches to choose from, so there is space, but if it was full, the pitches are quite close together.

The shower and toilet block, as mentioned in other reviews, are basic portable cabin style, with little room, but are perfectly functional. That being said when we were there, there was no toilet paper in any of the 6 ladies toilets and the site was pretty empty, so take your own in peak season I guess.

The washing up sinks had ample hot water, but no plugs, which seemed a bit odd.

Basically if you are a group of friends who want a site to base yourselves with space for the kids and great campfire to gather around, this is a good site for you (you are expected to be all quiet by 9. 30pm).

However if travelling on your own, we found this site fairly unwelcoming, basic and incredibly over priced (£20 for 1 night!)

Not a bad site although a little over priced for the facilities.

On arrival you have to ring a mobile number to book in as there is no reception which was a little annoying as we had no phone signal.

So we drove in and set up the caravan and awning and then went for a drive up the lane to find signal and call the number, he came down a bit later and wanted us to move which I told him wasn't going to happen now that we had set-up. This is a bad arrangement as the last thing you want to do after arriving is walk 1/2 mile up the road to try and find signal to book in.

1 field has recently been turfed but he still is allowing people to drive on and set-up so its looking shabby.

It rained all night on our first night and the field we were in was not well drained and we needed to borrow a 4x4 from a neighbour to get us out.

Toilets and showers are really poor, the lights didn't work at night, the cubicles are small and I didn't dare use the shower, they seem to be old shipping containers with toilets shoved in and a couple of trailer toilets you would expect to see at glastonbury.

Chemical waste is not sign posted so we had to guess

We had a great weekend as the area is a fantastic place. Other caravanners told us how over priced this site is.

Open fires was the main reason we picked this site but I think its expensive and all you are doing is burning a load of old dis-used pallets from a huge pile.

I wouldn't go back because of the poor toilets/showers and the state of the ground (as of Easter weekend) and we have a 1 year old to look after, there are much better sites in the area for the same or less money.

This site would be ok for the festival style campers.

We went camping at Luckford Wood for a long weekend as part of a group of 9 (adults and children), and although the site is very basic we had a fab time.

The toilet and shower blocks, together with the chemical disposal did leave a lot to be desired, but the site had a great atmosphere. On the Saturday night the owner lit up fires all over the site, and it was spectacular, and everyone came together to watch.

It was also very nice to have a campsite where you can have a reasonable amount of space (we had 3 tents and a gazebo - the gazebo didn't cost any extra which makes a change), and the camp fire was great fun, and meant we could stay outside til late into the evening without losing the feeling in our extremities!

This site is ideal for those who love camping for what it is, and not best suited to those who just can't afford to stay in a nice hotel, and have decided camping is the cheapest option - you will most likely be disappointed!

We will definitely be going back next year!

First of all I must say we had a lovely 3-4 day stay at this site and the owners are very friendly.

I do tend to agree with everything else people have said, it is a very laid back site with no real rules but I think a bit pricey for the facilities which there are none really - apart from a collection of portacabins for the toilets and showers (must be the smallest cubicle I have ever had the pleasure of visiting!).
We paid £34 a night for our tent (charged extra because of it's size!). We were also allowed to tag on another night though (at another £34) which was nice. The owners seemed to always try and accommodate you even at this very busy peak season period, we booked here only the day before our visit when all other campsites seemed full (and uninterested)

The owner offers other fiery treats like chinese lanterns and a real camp fire in a modified oil can with as much wood as you could burn but the latter cost an extra £14 per night so we didn't bother. Other peoples fires however did look (and sound) nice - crackling away long into the night.

If you like things to be pretty around the edges then this site isn't for you. It does look a bit scruffy in places with stuff dumped around the edges - particularly the bin area at the entrance but the site does offer basic camping in a nice location where you can wake up to mooing, neighing and cocks crowing.

Down the road in Wool there are a few shops, a Spar and in another parade another local store a Chinese takeaway and a butcher. There is no on site shop (which would have been so useful).

The coast is only 10 minutes down the road - Lulworth, Durdle door, and Kimmeridge are all nice (and dog friendly) with Weymouth and Swanage a little further if you want that sort of thing.

Oh and by the way - No mobile phone coverage, on Orange anyway.

I need to try and be fair as this was not my best weekend partly due to taking the dog for the first time who hated it, and the weather which was awful.

It is a very small site, but with a good mixture of pitches. The woodland part could be lovely if they sort the drainage out. The soil was very stony and makes pitching difficult, but not impossible.

The owner, (I only met the chap), is chatty and charming. The general atmosphere is good and relaxed, and the campfires give it a nice touch.

The facilities are basic but quite well kept. I must state at this point, I'm hardly sphelt, but not obese either and I should imagine larger chaps find it near impossible to cram into a cubical as they've packed as many into portacabins as they can. I didn't try the showers as opted to use my own after driving for an hour and a half to take the neurotic dog home, but if you're like me and like a bit of privacy in the shower, they're not for you! Arachnophobes be warned also, as plenty of eight legged beasts roam the loo's. None of this is the owners fault to be fair.

All in all, atmosphere and aesthetics make up for the many shortcomings of this site.

It is basic. Please do not go if you don't like blocked toilets - showers that are smelly and damp and in step-up units (we have 3 teenage daughters that flatly refused to use the facilities).

The wash up area is a broken down corrugated lean to which I wouldn't even use if I was really desperate. The camp site itself is spacious but only because once people realized (as did we) what it was like they re-booked somewhere else.

PS x he also seems to make up the prices as he goes along x for the 2 adults and 3 teens and 2 infants for 2 weeks he wanted to charge us £156 deposit and then another £303 for the rest. (with electric)

If you like to camp in straight rows, with mowed grass, on a mapped out pitch that you must not cross the lines as if your life depends on it and more rules than school – this is not the site for you.

Fact’s - this camp site is very basic, one washing up sink in a cow cover and showers that may or may not work in a very basic housing. However enough toilets and showers to go around and kept very clean, very impressed with the soft loo roll!. Also possibility a little expensive for the amenities on offer.

However we have just enjoyed one of the best camps we have ever had, no close neighbours, very relaxed host and best of all a camp fire!. I don’t want to recommend this site too much because the beauty was in the emptiness of it. Having said that there where at least 5 parties all with 10 + in them, but as we all had space to camp it didn’t seam busy. The camp fire was def a bonus, John, the owner, will provide you with a old oil can and you collect the wood you need. We made tables and other useful bits from the pallets so it really felt like camping as you remember from girl guides/scouts.

On the Sat night John lit paraffin lanterns and beacons all around he site and it looked magical.

All in all a great site – had a bill weekend thanks John. ( PS def worth buying a Chinese lattern from him – setting one off was enjoyed by all – from 10 years to 53 years !. )

As has been said before this site is very basic, the toilets and showers leave a lot to be desired, but clean. Now the good points, you are regimented as where you pitch camp, it can be in the open or amongst the trees, there is plenty of space. There is loads of bird life among the trees to observe in peace, the local area abounds with wild Roe deer, especially in the evenings, when walked the dog. All in all there is a certain magic about this site. Would possibly visit again.

Back to basics camping, perfect for us! Pitching the tent amongst the trees, very friendly and helpful owner. Lovely to be able to have a fire. The facilities are very basic but when we rang to book we were told this so there was certainly no deception. Would definitely return and certainly recommend to other like minded people.
