After a number of wrong turns finally found the small round that led us up a hill to the campsite.

We did not phone beforehand to reserve a pitch. We turned up, paid the £14 (initially)for the two of us and was told set up where you like from a choice of a number of fields, low level and higher level.

We chose a low level field. Seemed a good choice at the time as we were the only ones there. Although the grass was long and seemingly unkempt there were numerous fire pits already in place. Flies and midges were a constant nuisance in the evening but that's part and parcel with camping.

(Word to the wise, it rained virtually everyday while we were there, so be cautious of parking your vehicle in a low field as it's difficult to drive out again, as a number of us found out. )

There were two shower blocks. One set away from the farmhouse and one adjoining the farmhouse. Fairly clean with 3 shower cubicles, 3 toilets and 3 wash basins. Water standpipe just outside. Only downside was the wet weather. Everyone coming into the shower block was walking in mud, which didn't seem to be cleaned up that often. The showers if I remember cost £1 for about 5 minutes, which was pretty good. Water was hot and steady. Toilets were clean and toilet paper always available.

Being camped in the lower field meant it was a walk uphill to the shower block and farmhouse. Not good in the rain, and although there was a portable loo in our field I wouldn't recommend anyone use it. It wasn't cleaned regularly, in fact it was dire. Recommend camping a little closer to the block.

The family were extremely helpful and always on hand for anything. Fresh eggs in the morning are the best ! Always had a supply ! A utility room on hand for the use of the freezer, wall sockets for charging mobiles etc and a washing machine. Plenty of free kindling a plus and firewood which cost £7 a bag, pretty steep but unfortunately it was kept outside the farmhouse under newspaper so it was damp. Not a great idea for those wanting a campfire.

And remember it's a working farm, so be prepared for members of the family moving sheep from field to field and chickens roaming around your tent. A cockerel outside your tent early in the morning is a rather loud wake up call !

Although the campsite was on the whole basic it is situated in a fantastic place, right at the foot of Mt Snowdon. The view is spectacular, that more than made up for it.

This site is extremely basic and considering we paid £14 a night (£7 each) we were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the facilities that other sites charging this price offer. You had to pay an additional fee for the showers and the toilets were smelly and uncomfortable to be in, so much so that we booked for 2 nights but left after the first night! It was quite a long walk up hill to the toilet block, so portable loos were provided in the lower field. This was quite off putting as it felt like we were 'roughing it' when we were paying a reasonable sum of money and expected better facilities. Camping on a farm site/close to a mountain region doesn't need to be so rough, a lot more could be done to improve the cleanliness/overall appearance of this site - then it would be great!

It was a 'first come first serve' basis on the site, so I wouldn't recommend it to campers who like to have a designated spot and order on a site.

The site does have good views but was let down by the facilities.

A totally awesome site. Very laid back and accommodating owners who leave you to your own devices yet were on hand 24/7 should you need them.

Facilities were good, clean and exactly as described.

So nice to go somewhere where dogs were very welcome, Reg the pup had numerous play mates with the Farm Dogs and enjoyed a certain element of freedom around the tent.

The option of an open fire was awesome and just added to the magic of camping in zero temperatures!

Highly recommend this site for someone wanting the authentic rough real camping experience.

PS: The freerange eggs on sale were beautiful.

Visited this site for the 4th time and I have to say every time is fantastic. As most other reviews say, it is basic in regards to facilities etc but you are Camping, so what do you really expect!

There is some clear building work going on but this in no way impairs your stay or disrupts you whatsoever.

Nice cheerful farm dogs will greet you tail wagging!

Great friendly owners who will do anything for you to help and the most beautiful views of the surrounding mountains!

Would highly recommend to a beginner camper like myself

I have just returned from a four night stay at this site, with my wife and two children, aged 11 and 6.

On first impressions, I was a little concerned that my wife would divorce me, as the facilities and layout were not anything like she had experienced before!

However, we found a great spot, although it was on quite a slope and settled down for the night, with me hoping that things would appear better in the morning. And better they did! The views were absolutely stunning, the owners and campers were the friendliest that we have ever come across and even the shower blocks were much better than we thought the night before.

After that, the experience just got better! We climbed Snowdon for the first time, our children had their first camp fire, which we toasted marshmallows on, the kids played with the sheep dogs, fed the chickens stroked the lambs.

An amazing experience and one we will definitely be repeating. You've just got to get into the vibe of the place!

Used LLanberis as a base for climbing Snowdon and it's a great little town, totally geared up for tourists. There's a range of places to eat and drink, plus a Spar and a few take-aways, as well as the usual outdoor shops.

To climb Snowdon, you can walk directly from the town or get the bus up tp Pen y Pass for £1, and to the Pyg trail. There's also a country park close to the town, and we spent a couple of nights camping here by the beautiful lakes with no hassle at all.

Overall, the site was great, mainly due to it's location.

I have to say that I could have been put off by previous reviews but for £5 per night, you can't expect the Ritz.

What I got when I arrived was a very polite welcome from the lady at the farm house.

I was told there is a new shower block which has thermostatic controls on them.

I was told I could pitch anywhere I liked also so had free range of all the fields.

Also found that the farm workers were more than happy to stop for a chat and offer some local info as well.

When you take into account you have to pay £5 parking at pen y pass it works out as good value. £5 camp site fee. £1.00 bus fare to Pen y pass.

It's easy to see the plus points for this campsite.

I was very impressed that they are separating all the rubbish themselves and building a recycling block.

This campsite is by no means the finished article but it is a fantastic work in progress and I look forward to seeing the changes in the future.

The views are fantastic and the fact you can have campfires is an added bonus as well.

Llanberis is a small town with a couple of pubs with everything you could want.

Can't wait to go back.

Good clear directions to site. Arrived 6pm, site very busy. Went to book in with reception, lady told me to sign the book and took my money - that was it! I had to ask where the facilities were and where could I pitch. She pointed vaguely to the right for toilets and 'pitch anywhere'. All the sites close to the facilities on level ground were rammed and only sloping exposed pitches were available. I finally pitched in a field against a wall with trees behind for some protection (glad I did as there were gales on my second night) - more because I didn't think my car would make it out of the field due to the steepness and amount of mud near the gates.

In the ladies there was one shower - fixed temperature - very hot (50p charge did give you plenty of time), two toilets and one sink. There was toilet paper on the floor when I arrived and still there two days later. The over flowing bins in the toilets were emptied but again insufficient provision for the amount of people on the site.

I never found the area that you were supposed to use for cooking in bad weather rather than your tent, unless it was the kitchen area - which was again for the whole site too small and at one pound a minute for a microwave very expensive.

I think the site is probably a victim of its own success - I chose this site as it claimed amazing views, campfires were allowed, ability to walk Snowdon (and many other walks) from the site and it seemed friendly, casual and welcoming but the poorly maintained facilities and hands-off approach of owners was a great disappointment.

Didnt really explore Llanberis just drove through it to the site.

It was worth it because I had a lovely walk from the site to Snowdon (probably wouldn't have got the car out the field anyway!) but I don't think I'll be going back to that site. Though I will go back to Snowdon.

We visited this campsite for a two day stay Friday/Saturday to climb Snowdon, it is ideally placed for walking directly from the campsite.

Fors -

1 location.

2 views, (overlooking lyn padern)

3 very nice owners.

Against -

1. The showers/toilets are inadequate for the volume of traffic and were not very clean.

2. The noise on Saturday 8th August was really unbearable with drunken singing going on until after 01.30 when we gave up trying to sleep and broke camp and left early to get some peace. (despite the signs everywhere that no noise is tolerated after 10 PM).

3. Pitching is anywhere, and the tents were very close together despite there being several fields.

4. We could find no level pitches.

Verdict. Good views and for a single night stay, for climbers etc, perfectly good.

This site is literally on the side of the mountain over looking Llanberis, the view is awesome. The approach is via a steep narrow track but we made it but I would of hated to meet something coming in the opposite direction! The pitches are not at all level so we gave up trying in the end. We found this site more geared up for tents but its cheap and cheerful.
