The location of this campsite is perfect with view of Snowdon and surrounding mountains. It really was nice waking up to hear the train chuffing up Snowdon. There are loads of nooks and crannies to hide away in. If you take the first left field into the campsite and head straight over to the right of a line of trees there is a nice sheltered hollow where we were able be away from everybody and sit up talking in front of the fire without disturbing anyone.
There is a steepish hill which is fine for going down but to get back out you need to go towards the pig pen at the back of the field then take a sharp right up a gentler slope. You need to go very slowly and carefully in any of the fields as there are a lot of surprise rocks lying about the place.

Llanberis is a lovely little Town with a Londis and a Spar for essentials. Couldn't be bothered with cooking on the last night so we stopped at Spice of Llanberis and had some lovely curries - they do a few unusual dishes. The closest main town with supermarkets & butchers etc is Caernarfon with a Morrisons and Tescos. There is a good butcher in the town who's name I cannot remember.

Whilst here we decided to try the new Welsh Highland Railway which was awesome. One thing to note however, it is very slow. I didn't really think to check the journey times as its about 15 miles between Caernarfon and Beddgelert so how long could it take? We were in fact on it for 4.5 hours! I calculated our average speed to be 3.33 mph. It wasn't an issue for me being a rail enthusiast but my friends got quite bored. If you want to get the experience without spending that much time I'd suggest doing Rhyd ddu to Aberglaslyn and back.

I do have a couple of whinges about the campsite. Bear in mind that I have stayed at many basic sites before and don't expect clubhouses, pools and plush mown lawns. I was annoyed to arrive at the utility block to wash up and discover that it was impossible to do so. This is because every single surface in the washing area was covered in liquids containing various discarded food. Numerous filthy scourers just left on the side by the sink swimming in all the dirty water. Thankfully there was a bottle of Antiseptic spray and a semi clean scourer which enabled me to sanitize the area. I suppose this isn't really the campsites fault, more down to other inconsiderate campers.

I also find the 'fixed temperature' showers a bit silly.

OK, with the moans aside this is a great campsite where you really get the wild camping feel, in a lovely setting and has the potential to be a gem then they have finished developing it.

A lovely site in the right location - pitch the tent and leave the car behind within easy walking distance within most major attractions

Loads of space with several different fields to choose from on the side of a valley. Still easy though to find a level pitch as the site has many different fields either side of a narrow lane with no traffic to speak of.

Its location has to be the best point up a narrow steep road 10 mins walk from llanberis. ( 5 mins down and 15 mins up !) and with further walks all around.

The lack of decent toilets is still an issue but the new toilet block is under construction - don't let this stop you - I would recommend this site and intend to return now I have found it. Its remoteness in a peaceful spot has to be its best selling point.

The children liked the sheep that wandered around the site from time to time

We visited this campsite specifically for its proximity to Snowdon. We were not disappointed. The view was fabulous. We did struggle to find a flat pitch, this is very much a case of a bit of rough and ready camping. There aren't designated pitches its a case of find a spot you like and stay there.
The campsite owners were friendly and helpful, sorting out rubbish for recycling and towing stuck vehicles where the ground was soft. The site was extremely busy and the lack of toilets and showers was a bit difficult. There was regularly a queue for both. However, I did notice you can shower for £2 at Pete's Eats in Llanberis, that included towel hire, soap and limitless hot water.
My criticisms would be the lack of facilities for such a large number of campers and the lack of flat pitches hence the overall score. I should mention it did look like another shower block was being built.

All in all an excellent site, and our second visit with a free reign over pitches, rather than numbered and regimented.

**Positive points**

*Very friendly and welcoming owners

*A working farm with lots of animals to see and hear!

*New third shower block under construction

*The views, oh god the views!

*Walk to Snowdon from your tent!

*Cheap and cheerful (no clubs or rowdy shops for teenagers to loiter around)

*4 new Electric Hook ups right next to farmhouse

*Plenty of space for large groups or single campers

*You can have a real fire!

**Negative points**

*Showers/toilets are very limited for the size of site although this has been rectified with the adaptation of the 'top shed' and is still under development. (see above)

*Not too many level pitches (but it is on the side of a very steep valley, so what did we expect.)

*A bugger of a walk from the shop at the bottom of the lane!

*Limited access to large vehicles, but the owner uses tractors and he can get up the narrow lane!

As stated, this was our second visit and it won't be our last! Cheers to Fiona and Joe!

This is a campsite on a working farm on a mountainside. The best views in the world. Close to the world famous Petes Eats and other amenities. The livestock including the dogs all add to the experience. If you can't cope with basic why go camping?
Owners very friendly and helpful. Space to be on your own if you wish. Having visited in August and loved it in very strong winds and heavy rain, we were back a month later and blessed with a weekend of wearing shorts. We love it!

1st time on a fairly basic site so wasn't really sure what to expect. The site owners don't actively encourage caravans as the road up to the serviced pitches is pretty narrow and steep. We made it though! And the owners did say that if we were to have any probs they would pull us up with the tractor! can't say better than that!

Positive aspects of the site are without question the views, it is the most beautiful place we have stayed. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The site is very relaxed, you are allowed bonfires etc. There was even a brass band that had camped that played some music on one night which was fantastic! They were very accommodating for us as it was a large group and they allocated us a sectioned off area to ourselves which was unexpected! Great location for exploring snowdonia, we spent a lot of time at the lake which is stunning.

The drawbacks to staying here are the facilities, although they do provide places to wash up, use of microwave and tumble dryer which is great, the toilets / showers were a bit of a let down. Pretty grotty and not enough of them. It is a working farm and the odd escapee sheep was fun for the kids and my daughter fell in love with the chicken that seems to live on the bin, but the dogs were a bit too much. Every mealtime we had around 4 dogs begging. The kids thought it was great but afraid the grown ups weren't too keen. There was also a lot of kids running around unsupervised (not campers) that were pretty mean to any other kids playing nearby.

Wouldn't rule it out for another visit but not rushing to book but only because it was a little more basic than I prefer. All in all we had a great time.

We went over the bank hol weekend 23rd-25th august. The weather was not so good when we got there but held off long enough for us to pitch our tents!

Luckily we chose the top pitch which had the best views. The views of Snowdon were amazing and you could see the Snowdon mountain train (can also hear it at times) going up and down. When we went up the mountain on the train you could also see the camp site quite clearly!

If it is raining I would recommend using the top site as when the rain got worse the people lower down had a terrible time getting their cars out of the fields.

There is a chemical toilet in each of the lower fields, next to reception there are very basic toilets and showers one each for men and women. There is a metal shed at the top of the camp site where the bunk beds and further toilet and showers are. The only difference being is that there are two showers for men and two for women here and cost £1 for 7 mins , where as by reception they cost 50p for 5 mins.

On the top site there are very basic concrete floor toilets with no lights or hot water and an outside tap. So I would recommend taking hand sanitizer as this is really the only way to clean your hands in the middle of the night! Obviously a torch is also extremely handy as there are no lights around the camp site and without one you will be in trouble!

There are very basic facilities to wash your clothes and dishes, though the standard of hygiene has a lot to be desired, I am not sure how much of this is down to other campers and how much of it is down to the actual running of the camp site.

I know that a lot of people are drawn to the camp site by the website but when we got there a lot of other campers were very disappointed by what was actually there.

The price of £5 a night was very good, though I though it was a bit excessive charging for the use of every thing from a few minutes use of the microwave and kettle when the hygiene standards were very low. We ourselves cooked on a gas stove so that was not a problem.

The town has a spar at the bottom of the road from the camp site which was very handy, though the town itself had very little attractions to speak of. You would really need a car to get to neighbouring Caernarfon and get to visit some of the attractions.

We all enjoyed ourselves , the family seemed pleasant enough. I suppose you have to bare in mind that this is a working farm and not just a camp site like some of the neighbouring places. It seems that this is also a work in progress, so if you are looking for cheap prices and good views then this would be a good place to go.

If they could up the standard a bit I think they would be over run as they do have the great views on their side. I am not sure if we would go here again but we did enjoy the view nights we were there regardless of the rain and winds!

This site is easy to find, but the road up to it from llanberis is narrow, and God help you if you meet traffic coming in the opposite direction. The owners, Fiona and Joe Davies, really put themselves out to be as helpful and pleasant as possible.
The site is lovely, and the toilets and showers are cleaned regularly, but only stay as clean as the campers leave them. Some campers leave beer cans and litter on the site, or thrown into the brook, which really reflects the type of people they are. Litter, especially polythene can kill the livestock if they swallow it.
Work is still in progress to produce more hardstandings for the larger type of campervan which are to heavy for a grass pitch, and bog in, especially if the grass is wet. My Autocruise starblazer did just that as soon as we arrived, but Joe soon found us a hardstanding This is a working farm, and the owners have more to do than wetnurse the campers.
The site dogs were great. As dog lovers, we really enjoyed them, as we did all the wondering animals. This is a truly beautiful place, and I really was sad to leave, but will certainly return, as I have some unfinished business with the hill walks to complete. Boredom is a sheer impossibillity.

This site has glorious views of the Welsh hills, the people were lovely and helpful, the campsite clean and well maintained. There were plenty of toilets, and showers, use of a fridge and microwave, Laundry facilities, somewhere to wash your dishes.
It is a working farm and you can chose to share your pitch with sheep ( we saw lots of lambs). It was very cheap, £4 a night, I would definatley go back. The only problems we had were finding it, and the midges.

Last minute decision and off we went on Saturday morning. Wow! Fab! What a location! Yeah a basic site - there were seven of us ranging in age from 5 to 42 and everyone was happy.

The owners were very friendly and helpful - and yes we got stuck in the mud in a rather large and heavy VW LWB 9 seater Caravelle (fully loaded!)We churned up the field in our attempts to get out but eventually had to be towed by the owners(we apologised for the mess) - not a problem at all and no charge.

I would recommend this site to anyone looking for a 'get away from it all' time.T he views are truly exceptional, the location great. You can do as much or as little as you like from here. The cost is so cheap for camping - £4 pppn going up to £5 pppn at peak! No matter how many tents, gazebos etc etc. The owners have plans to improve aspects eg more flattened pitches, completed shower blocks etc.

They are also encouraging recycling so be prepared with lots of different rubbish bags (food scraps to chickens; plastic; glass; cans / aluminium; other).

My 5 year old daughter cried over and over when it was time to come home - covered in mud from exploring the stream she said it was the best campsite ever because you could have a campfire and cook marshmallows!

Enjoy - we certainly did and will be returning in a fortnight for the weekend (but not camping in lower field it does get very soft after rain!)
