What a lovely site we had a pitch over looking the fishing lake. Very well maintained. Having the caravan centre there was really good it was our first time on a fully serviced pitch and they were really helpful with any problems we had connecting up the water supply. It is a site we can recommend and we will be going back at a later date.

Just returned from 2 nights at this site and we really enjoyed our stay.
The site does slope down to the lake at the bottom and levellers are definitely needed, we had a pitch just in front of the lake which was lovely just to watch the wildlife.
People with small children would have to watch them carefully as there is a lot of water around. Probably not a very good site for people with small children.
The shower block was very clean and tidy, ALL the staff we met on site were extremely helpful and friendly.
There is a pub, The Black Boy, just 5 minutes walk from the site which for me was on the 'doorstep', good food and friendly staff, reasonably priced. A post office and shop were about a ten minute walk. Bus stops to Clacton or Colchester were a 5 minute walk away.
The Camping store had everything you could want for and was nice to just browse around. The Cabin Cafe was nice, plain food and friendly staff.

We stayed for 2 nights on a fully serviced pitch close to the lake and backing on to a small wooded area. The pitch was slightly sloping ( levellers required ), but was a very good size. There was road noise and noise from the village both nights. Not too loud, but there all the same.
The whole site was very nicely set out and the reception staff, wardens and fishing bailiff were always pleasant, friendly and helpful. The amenities were of standard but due to the terrible weather were not as clean as you would normally expect.
The lake is larger then the campsite. Has two small islands and is well stocked with very nicely conditioned and hard fighting carp. With some going to very good sizes.
There are caravan sales, a second hand shop, camping supplies and a cafe at the entrance to the site and a log cabin community the other side of the lake. The owners have definitely put the land available to very good use without squeezing in too much. A very nice place to stay.
Would we return ? Possibly, but the noise from the road and village is a bit of a detraction.

Absolutely wonderful site. Fantastic view over a lake. Fabulous for walks and fishing.
The site facilities are immaculate second to non. The toilets are always clean and tidy, laundry room on site. The site has a cafe and caravan sales and equipment.
The wardens are always obliging. The immediate area has plenty to offer with Clacton, Walton and Frinton near by, also Dedham Vale constable country nearby.
There is a pub in walking distance from the site and the local village store to provide all your daily need including fish and chips.
Overall highly recommended

We have just returned from our first caravanning weekend with our own caravan. What a great site, very quiet and secluded with a lovely lake.
Lovely owners who were really helpful and considering the horrendous weather great that all of the 50 pitches are hard standing and fully serviced.
I would really recommend this site if it's your first weekend away as the second hand shop and main caravan shop were a godsend. There is a great cafe on site but it's a shame they don't have a shop on site selling provisions.
This is one of the best sites I have stayed on and the only thing I would change Is that there was a playground for children but this does make the site much quieter for those that don't have children.
Showers were spotless, no queues and plenty of hot water. We will definitely be returning !

We've just got back from a weekend away here and will definitely be going back, loved it!
This is quite a big site there are 50 fully serviced pitches and this weekend nearly everyone of them was occupied, despite this we had a lovely peaceful weekend, I know this makes me sound old but one of the things I really liked about this site is there is very little for kids so you don't get many of them! If you do have children with you there is a field for ball games etc (no ball games allowed on the site.
My husband loves fishing and I'm quite happy to sit in the sun with a book so this was ideal for us.
Has all the facilities you would expect from a good site, electric hook-up, disposal points, toilet and shower block, which were very clean and pleasant despite the site being almost full.
The site is situated behind a camping/caravan shop so easily accessible for anything needed/forgotten.
There is a cafe on site although we didn't use it so can't comment.
A little way off site there is a Post Office and shop open late.
Fishing is £5 a day, no one seemed to be catching much, but whether that was because the lake wasn't well stocked or down to the fishermens technique who knows?
There is a Pub within easy walking distance, we didn't go because we had a dog and it isn't dog friendly.
Although we stayed on site for the weekend if you want to venture out the seafront at Clacton or Walton are both about 7 Miles, Clacton factory village is about 6 Miles.
As I say we loved it and will definitely return although I don't think we would have 10 years ago when the kids were younger.

We enjoyed this site, despite the cold rainy weather. It was quiet, although there was loud music one evening, into the night, and quite a lot of barking dogs. It is well laid out with clearly marked pitches and road ways.
Our pitch (19) was a little bit boggy where the water collected in dips in the ground. The toilet and shower facilities seemed fairly clean. They were not busy when we were using them. The rubbish bins were over flowing and there were a lot of wasps and a stench as a result.
There is a wooded area and a lake (not fenced so little kids need careful supervision). There was a huge family of ducklings roaming around: fun for our small kids. There were other families there but the other children were not particularly loud or intrusive.
The local area was fairly interesting, and it was easy to get to the coast or inland to the Colchester (zoo, castle, indoor play centre etc). There were a few climbing frames nearby (e. G. Colchester castle grounds, Clacton shopping village) so we didn't think the site needed one and it is nicer without.
There is also a family friendly restaurant a quick drive away (The Bowling Green). The site cafe closes too early to be useful for kiddy tea times and opens too late for their breakfasts.
Overall, this does not really seem to be a site aimed at families with kids but it was fine if you have them. It would also be great if you don't but can tolerate kids.
There is a large camping and caravan store nearby. Booking was very straight forward. The weather spoilt the experience but would definitely consider staying again.

There are some inaccuracies in previous reviews here. First of all there are indeed direct public transport links nearby. Buses to Clacton and Colchester are from a bus stop less than 10 minutes walk, and Weeley station is about 15 minutes walk and has a train service to Clacton, Frinton, Walton on the Naze and Colchester.
The next point is that there is no 'pub on the doorstep'. The Blackboy is at least 5 minutes walk away and does not cause any disturbance to the site visitors.
There is one service point to approximately 3 pitches; if your pitch is adjacent to the service point then your electric cable, water hose and similar length waste pipe will reach all the facilities of a fully serviced pitch.
If you are sited to one side, then an electric extension cable might well be required, and certainly a much longer food grade hose than is standard with an Aquaroll mains water kit will be needed.
The site is very pleasant indeed, but I had a few reservations. Firstly I asked for a quiet pitch and was pre-booked with pitch 16. However, pitch 17 is regularly given to campers and for two nights I had a tent pitched in the wrong place right next to my caravan so that their voices were always clearly audible. There seem to be no active wardens on this site from my experience, and e-mailing the site office (I was out all day) with a complaint didn't even receive a response. The wardens only appear when delivering some heavy item purchased in the well stocked accessory shop
And although I infrequently used the amenity block, I wasn't convinced that it was cleaned regularly enough. The club sites I've visited even in peak holiday periods have all been kept much cleaner.
The business itself is probably more geared up to its caravan sales side and the touring site appears to be more of a sideline

Small site located behind a busy camping shop and caravan dealers. Slopes gently down to a large lake with a development of timber chalets on the other side (work in progress). Serviced pitches are quite generous with a gravel and grass area. Most had a gentle slope. Site is very well kept, toilet and shower block is modern and clean. There is a small area of woods to exercise the dog. Behind the chalets is a large area of fields and trees bounded by a river, this is not mentioned in the campsite info. The local pub, The Black Boy, is only 5 mins walk away. It has a separate eating area. Food was very good and moderately priced. Pub was not dog friendly. We didn't try the cafe near the shop, but it looked ok and was quite popular. There's not much here for kids. Lots of people come here to fish.
Nice tidy site, handy for N Essex and coast, Clacton. Walton etc. We would use again.

We have visited this site on many occasions for weekend breaks with our camping friends. Great site with spacious and well laid out pitches over-looking a large fishing lake.
We prefer the pitches in front of the lake for the superb view. These have electric, water and water waste disposal. Facilities are always spotlessly clean and I have never had to queue to use the showers, which have always been hot.
Great camping shop at the top of the site complex, with just about everything you could possibly need. Cafe next door to this, although I have never visited it, so cannot comment.
Close to the Essex coast and not far from Constable Country. Well worth a visit.
