We stayed her for 2 nights as a tester for our new tent. We were pleasantly suprised by the site as we had read reviews beforehand. The warden was pleasant explained the rules of the site pointed out all toilets/showers etc. It was lovely to sit on the river and watch the 'active' people out and about while we chilled. The toilet block was a bit grubby could do with pulling down and rebuiding but hey hoe isn't that what camping is all about - Would I go back again - Yes I would it is only down the road from Cardiff and so peaceful, lovely area all in all and worth the money.

Despite phoning to book the site and leaving a message on the voicemail we were not expected but fortunately they had 2 pitches available. The site for touring vans is very pleasant with enough space for 8 vans with electric hook-up. We parked near the tent campsite and I would definitely park the other end of the site if I go again.
There is a lot of through traffic both on foot and vehicles. One very inconsiderate guest parked their car right in front of our van which made leaving quite difficult.
The facilities leave a lot to be desired there is only one toilet for tents and caravans (unless you walk through the static van site for more toilets and showers). The toilet is not very pleasant and not cleaned very thoroughly.
The surroundings are lovely, not too far from the river Wye and a nice walk. Just up the steps and you are in the garden of the Wye Knot pub which is lovely and does excellent food.

Been here a few times - best described as strange. The warden keeps park clean and tidy but his 'people skills' do leave a lot to be desired!
There are some excellent pubs in the area and river is not far away - good walks. Fun Fair is tatty but will keep the kids happy. River trips are also run nearby.
The facilities are thin on the ground, one 'unisex' loo near the camping area with the showers (1 each) a long walk away. Get a lot of weekend campers getting drunk so noise can be a problem. If you like the 60s retro feel with customer service to match you'll love it!

There was not a warm welcome, we were booked but not expected. The site is kept clean, but no showers. The is no atmosphere and the only fun thing around was the amusements down the drive. There is lots of rules you cant put a foot out of place. Overall 3/5 I think

Having read previous reviews I was a little dubious about booking two nights at this campsite. Actually the only reason I did was that Doward Park campsite was fully booked! However, when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the place. The short drive through the statics to the camping field was a pleasure as the grounds are immaculately kept. The first field you come to is the EHU field, with a couple of picnic tables in the middle and enough leccy points for eight pitches. There is another entrance here that leads to a bigger field where there are a lot more pitches without EHU.
The good points : Four bars/pubs within walking distance from campsite (including leisure park bar and a hotel). Fun Park, butterfly zoo, garden centre, hedge maze, canoe hire and of course the river Wye, are all within a 10 minute walk from the camp field.
The bad points : One toilet & sink by camp field (another somewhere else on the site apparantly!) It would get crowded in the EHU field at peak times. I found it a bit pricey (£47 for two nights inc. 6 man tent & dog & EHU).
Overall a good site if you have kids because of the variety of entertainment. The locals were friendly and there was not a lot of noise coming from the leisure park. The price lets it down for me I think.

We have visited this site many times, I agree it does have it's faults, but we keep coming back. There is only one toilet where the caravans and tents are pitched(no shower) the other block is nearer to the wardens accomadation(quite a walk) which only has 1 shower and toilet for the ladies. We have never found it to be a problem, we use the van toilet anyway, and the shower has always been free when we've been to use it.
We have found the electric to be tempramental and trips quite easily, Brian the warden is always keen to tell us it's a 10 amp site, so dont over load it when he has to trek out and put it back on for us.We have always found him to be very hard working cleaning the site, albeit a bit on the eccentric side.
For all it's faults, we have always returned to this site out of season. It is quaint and has an old fashioned feel. The electric pitches only 8 are on a level grassed area, mature tree's surround. There's a wooden play area for the kids and a large field for ball games, the walking is great right from the site, the local pubs are in walking distance and serve good food, and are happy to have kids and dogs. It's in a good location near to Monmouth, Ross on Wye and the Forest Of Dean. And the prices are not too high.
We have always been made to feel welcome by the locals. And will be returning next year I'm sure.
The site should consider a small shop for essentials, and extending it's toilet and shower block especially in high season when there are alot of tents.

I found the site very nice, can't comment on toilets as we use the caravan facilities. The fairground was closed when we were there so it was very quiet.
The most annoying thing was people coming from the statics to play football around our caravan. There was an empty field to the left and right.

We booked for a motorhome and a campervan with electrical hookup, but when we arrived they had us down as two tents and didn't seem to care. The campsite felt tatty and unfriendly. There was only one toilet for everyone (unless you were prepared to walk miles to the other side of the static site). It was clean while we were there, but dark! Washing up facilities were good. Didn't try the shower (couldn't find one and we were only there for 2 nights). It was extremely noisy with other campers at night, and by midnight most of them were drunk. Not brilliant when you've got 3 small children with you. One of the other campers saw fit to relieve themselves against the side of our (brand new!) motorhome - we didn't argue at the time! You can walk to Symonds Yat along the river Wye. It could be a nice walk, but there was a lot of litter when we were there which spoilt it somewhat. Symonds Yat itself was lovely - and you can cross over on the ferry which is pulled by hand along a rope strung across the river.

Busy bank holiday weekend, but despite booking in advance, we were not expected! The drive up to the site, you pass a noisey busy perminent fun-fare, which does impact on the peace at the quite of night.
Lots more units (both caravan and tents) on site than advertised on the board! This does stretch the amenities to excess. One toilet, and small wash-up area. There are two other toilets and one shower to be found in the static caravan area. The static area is extremely well kept, tidy probably the reason for the 4 star rating, however, if the touring area was classified separately, it would struggle with a two star.
The large play area advertised, was taken up with cars parked to get to the fun fare, and.more tents! The local pub 'The Wye Knot' is excellent value for money, with good food, and service. Would have to think carefully before returning

We stayed here on several occasions in 2004-2005. The site is indeed small, but quaint. Sadly, they do charge 20p for the showers, but then the 4star one we stayed at last week does this, so it seems to be acceptable in the best of sites. In defence of the 'owner' in the last post who was woken at 8.30 am, he was most definitely Brian the warden, who is as far from being owner as anyone can be. He has a gruff manner about him - as do many wardens - but is a good bloke and very helpful if you work with him rather than treating him with ignorance as I have seen many campers do. I'd be grumpy at 8.30am.(!) As for being noisy, the funfair closes by about 8pm and cannot be heard from this field. In fact, once you get through to the campsite field, you are unaware of the statics, the funfair, the car park, the bars, the daytrippers etc. On the contrary it is a peaceful spot. The lights are on a sensor at the toilet block in the field and have always worked when we have been, though irritatingly the warden has to frequently replace the lock on the toilet because campers keep putting the latch on to save having to use their keys, which in turn gets broken. The shower block is further away and is dated but clean and functional. Two pubs are conveniently near - the "Wye Not Inn" is up a steep flight of steps from the campsite and has an excellent menu. The "Ferry Inn" is a longer walk along the river but is well worth the walk to sit and watch the salmon jumping while the canoes paddle by. Sorry anyone else didn't enjoy, we have had wonderful, relaxed, quiet and peaceful breaks here - perhaps because we don't mind 'quaint'.
