We spent a week at Campix, the site manager was the most helpful owner I have ever met, nothing was too much trouble. The individual pitches are quite level, with clusters of 3-5 vans in secluded woodland clearings providing just the right mix of sun, shade and shelter. Fresh bread on site every morning (good selection) and a mini café that sold hot food (good for kids). Nice pool, but it gets busy when hot. The site is very well placed to explore the surrounding countryside, recommend Paris by train - can get a one day travel pass that covers metro and mainline. Parc Asterix and Monets garden within an hours travel - whole hartedly recommend this site and would camp there again anytime.

Stayed at Campix for four days at the beginning of our French holiday.
On arrival the owner greets you with a smile and speaks very good English.
Facilities at Campix are good, toilets with good hot water supply and were always clean.
Swimming pool is very nice, although did get rather crowded and was spoiled slightly by people playing with balls at busy times.
Good reception with loads of info on what to do in surrounding area, also there is a mini shop and snack bar and bread can be ordered for the next day.
We liked the fact that this site is rustic and the owner hasnt tried to commercialise the site too much. Also camp fires are allowed which adds to the rustic feel, we even cooked a beef stew for our tea on the fire one night.
Theres plenty to do in the surrounding, Chantilly is lovely with its chateau and horse shows. Also there is a river which runs from the local village where you can walk or cycle.
Paris is not far away and easy accessed by train.
This is our second visit to Campix and we would definitely stay here again.

We have just returned from a fantastic week at Campix. This was our sort of campsite and we went their on the recommendation of friends. Good things:
Great welcome; clear rules but not officious (and we have stayed some very strictcampsites);excellent loo block and very good hot showers, clean and never had to queue - 5 minute walk from our pitch at the top of the campsite. Bread available on site; proximity and ease of getting to Paris; Chantilly; Negatives? Not for us, -the weather was great - a couple of good rainstorms to challenge our tent. We were allocated an excellent ptich high up so had plenty of light and drainage!
We had no hook up - took solar lights. Electrics needed a long lead so take one with you. Delighted with the number of varied nationalities on site.
We enjoyed it - family of 4 with teenagers 14 and 18. Reception great. The younger members of our party commented on the grumpiness of the bar staff - but they tended to find this amusing.

One of very few campsites in this area it has many pros and cons. The owner, as many have said, is exceptionally helpful and speaks fluent French, German and English. The toilet blocks are large and clean with plenty hot water. The pool was very nice although a bit small and would no doubt be crowded in high season. It was good to have the wee bar on site. You can easily get croissants baguettes etc from the local boulangerie but you can order on site too.
You can buy tickets for Parc Asterix (highly recommended) at 25% discount on site - currently 33euro rather than 44euro for an adult. Chantilly chateau is astonishing and well worth a visit. Be aware that Tuesday is the closing day although the castle is open July/August but not the horse museum. Would be a good base for getting to Paris although we didn't go this time.
Be aware if you are camping that being an old quarry the ground is very uneven and stony. There are many sections to the campsite and we were in the top field which was very spacious BUT was at least a five minute walk away from the loos - not good if you need at night! We also thought the site was quite pricy at 39euro per night for a tent, two adults, two kids and electricity.
A good site though and as long as you bear these things in mind, a good base for the area.

The ambience and wild nature of this site have been well described elsewhere and we found it just as we had hoped. The pool is as attractive as it looks - though imagine it could be busy in peak times. This is mostly used as a stopover site, though we stayed for 6 nights with our 9 and 12 year old girls and it was fine as base for Paris and surrounding countryside - we also visited Pierrefond, Senlis and Chantilly. It has to be said the village of St Leu d'Esserent is limited and the River Oise does not offer much nearby. Travel away from Chantilly and you are in to industrial sprawl. The bar area is big, but lacks atmosphere and offers snacks only. The owner says it is not worth putting on entertainment, which is a shame, as the Dutch musician who played ad-hoc in the bar when we were there showed what it could be like.

We came for a week before Easter drawn by the promise of camping in a wild environment and being able to enjoy a campfire in the evening. We certainly weren't disappointed! We enjoyed collecting wood which was freely available.
Xavier the campsite owner is very helpful with plenty of great ideas for local visits. Many motorhomes pull up for overnight stops but we were tucked away in a wild part of the site with woodpeckers and hedgehogs and ended up staying for a whole wonderful relaxing week. It was perfect too for our 5 year old boy with plenty of exploring climbing and adventures!

Absolutely perfect campsite for us. It may not be a pristine, cut lawn kind of site, but one that looks 'under construction' with a definite quarry feel! - there are lots of trees and nooks and crannies to camp in. I did not mind in the slightest as I would have paid double for the priceless qualities of;
1. A site with character and uniqueness
2. Zavier the owner, very friendly and fluent in German/English
3. Free tourist information from Zavier
4. Warm croissants and baguettes from the bread van at 8.30am - what more could anyone want??
This was a last minute road trip with my daughter. I wanted to take her to the Eiffel Tower, so we stayed at Campix for 2 nights, parked at Louvre station (free all day outside) got the amazing value for money mobilis card (13 Euros) to travel in all 5 zones for the day. Our French is not good, and it was our first time in Paris, so that's why Zavier and his site were perfect for us - definitely go again!

This site generally has glowing reviews and given the unique nature of the surroundings, they are largely justified. Sprawling at many different levels depending upon the time of year you could end up in a very cold spot even if the sun is shining. We stayed here for two nights over Easter and found it very much a wilderness, toilets and showers were good, but in April the main building is closed. Noisy after dark, as late as 23. 30 with an army of what looked to be scouts on their Easter break. We could see the fascination for a family with small children, and for us with three dogs the surroundings offered good long walks. Sadly the site lighting was not turned on after dark, so take a big torch with you. As a previous reviewer observed, the motor home service point is scruffy and probably not too hygienic. We saw users washing toilet tanks out with the potable water hose, sometimes putting that hose into their containers, so take care. For all that, good value but probably claustrophobic in the high season.

Stayed for 2 nights, had a choice of anywhere on the site. We chose down into the quarry/trees, as we thought it would be more private, but in hindsight would have been better to choose a spot higher up as the sun didn't really reach us and the ground stayed damp and cold. Lovely site though, very friendly and owner spoke good English, was able to give good directions to visiting tourist attractions. Train station nearby where you could park for free and get into Paris direct. Also close to Chantilly. Has a great pool, bit cold but kids still went in. And a good playground. Cafe had nice food and you could order bread for the next day. Showers were hot and loo's were always clean. Would go there again as was a good base for exploring and camping prices are reasonable.

We booked this site through the camping club for a two week break with our 4 kids ranging in ages from 11-17. Overall we had a nice stay.
We arrived after a long journey in rain so finding our own spot when not familiar with layout is rather stressful, there are some nice pitches and in the event we did OK. Many of the better pitches are a walk from the loos but you ought to know this if you've done your research before arriving.
Contrary to another review we found the pool area to be very clean, considering the environment the lack of leaves in the pool was to the sites credit. The pool is watched via a CCTV and we saw evidence that behaviour and conduct was challenged. Our kids used the pool most days, always under supervision and I didn't see dogs or smoking by the pool.
The toilet block is clean I never had to wait to use a shower but there are significant water pressure issues be warned.
If you don't like the out door life open fires and BBQ's don't go to this site, most people did enjoy the evening campfires as we did even in the rain cooking marshmallows was great fun and the relaxed approach on this site was appreciated.
The site is used by supervised groups of children which was Ok by us but some may not appreciate this. We did not use the cafe and only ordered bread once as it is much cheaper to pop to the village.
Being there towards the end of August lots of people were using the site for an overnight stay as we were in the farthest part of the site this didn't affect us and we were pleased not to have a pitch closer to reception as a lot of campers in mobile homes/campers appeared to be inconsiderate of others just pulling up and literally parking, we even saw cables across the road which when negotiating a trip to the loos in the dark was a hazard and our youngest has a sight impairment.
We would stay again enjoyed trips to Paris and Park Atserix as well as exploring local towns. Met nice people and relaxed.
