We have just returned from a wonderful week at Campix. We hadn't planned to stay here but picked the brochure up from tourist info in Senlis and decided to give it a go. We were not disappointed with this fantastic site.
Although the site was busy, the caretaker asked us to walk around the site and pick which ever pitch we liked. This took about about 45 minutes as we were spoiled for choice and had to prize our boys (10 and 11) away from each pitch. Some of the pitches were a little damp under foot depending on situation (i.E. Close to the cliffs and in the shade) but most were dry, with some sun and secluded.
The pools were exceptionally clean and well presented, large pool 1m 60cm deep and plenty big enough for swimming, smaller pool about knee deep ideal for younger children. Plenty of sun loungers. Unfortunately the pool side shower was out of order when we visited but only short walk to shower block which was also very clean.
As well as the bread van which came around the site at 8.30 every morning, a mobile van offering chips, burgers and kebabs also visited every evening during our stay.
Would highly recommend this site for families, we will certainly visit again.

Just returned from this rustic campsite. On arrival you are given a map and are free to wander and choose your pitch. Various available from secluded to open only limitations is electric if required.
Bread delivered daily by van can be an alarm call as blows horn as moves around site.
Lots of lovely places to visit. Owner very helpful and knowledgable on area.
Only downside was youth groups visited the site which were noisy spoiling the otherwise quiet ambience of the site, example chanting and singing till after 2 oclock one morning.

Agree with much of what has been said by other reviewers. This site has several very positive features, not least its naturalistic state with large, shady and private pitches and the ability to have campfires. Our pitch (50) was huge and completely private. There was a fair bit of rain during our stay but the site drains amazingly well so this was not a problem. The site has many interesting features and is great for children who enjoy exploring its many nooks and crannys. As others have said, the location is excellent for Paris and the theme parks - we made it to Disneyland in an hour during the morning rush hour. The owner is incredibly helpful and speaks perfect English - he is so keen to be available he seems to allow people to arrive at all hours which is not always great for existing residents. The negatives - none so strong as to deter us from going back - would be the temperature of the pool (so cold in August my kids only went in once over a fortnight); the toilets and showers (frequently queues for showers; the water has a mind of its own and goes off mid shower - pushbutton system notwithstanding; lack of private cubicles with sinks); lack of games room/bar/snack facilities (seemed to be closed for refurb - snack van every night). Finally the central toilet/shower facilities means a long trek for those on the farthest reaches of the site. The toilet and shower facilities are VERY clean however.
Would recommend cycling in the Forests of Chantilly and Compiegne (both nearby); a stroll round Senlis; a visit to Laon (fantastic cathedral)

Only stayed 2 nights at this site as we only used it to visit Parc Axtrix.
We did not like this site, rather disappointed certainly could not have stayed any longer than 3 days. It is well located for touring or visiting the area with road links close bye.
On site there are many pitches to choose from with a first come first serve or pre book your pitch ( near the reception area are the better pitches).Upon arrival you are asked to walk about the site and choose your own pitch, that took some 30 mins as the site is spread out all over the place with in the quarry.
We had a pitch in an area with some 10 other tents, very little electric hook up available the ground was very hard needing really strong pegs and quite uneven. Practically no grass in many areas just the rock flattened from the quarry (chalk / limestone) You had to take care with driving the car to your pitch in case of bottoming it out on some of the boulders that lay about this was mainly on the upper pitches. Dread to think what it would be like if raining hard on this site. The walk to the wash room and toilets or even to fetch water was quite a hike about 7minutes,made worse at night with no lighting at all. We stumbled several times due to the amount of small boulders and uneven site grounds. When you managed the trek to the Facilities the showers and washing up were good and clean. On site was a small pool and play type area, and you could buy some quick take away meals. On several of the tent areas they allowed campers to make small open fires using the fallen branches. But with a the slight breeze some of the embers would drift over close to ones tent, so have a fire extinguisher at the ready. The site was quiete and felt relaxing. Next to us was a group of 15 french teenagers and a adult who nicely played a guitar and sang around there campfire.
I would only stay at this site again if I had a pitch booked close to the main reception area area. After talking to several other campers we all agreed that the site really needs a major overhaul and to be better laid out. It could have lighting installed for the campers at night so as to see the way to the toilets and showers etc, before someone is injured. Some of the access to the pitches made better not all campers have a 4X4.
Electric hook ups and water point made more easily available than the long trek. For what the site charges its not good value for money.
This was our opinion of the site and pitch that we were given when we stayed at this site.

Agree with the other reviews in that it is a fantastic 'wild' site. You feel close to nature and wake up / get disturbed (!) by bird song every morning.
The trees provide very welcome shade - we were in site 'A12' and found the shade a welcome relief from 30 degrees sun.
The facilites were good - toilet blocks fine with plenty of hot water, although slightly annoying push button showers. Washing machine OK and plenty of trees to string a washing line from!
The swimming pool was great. Play area Ok. Free freezers for cold packs in the games rooms.
Really fresh bread from what our children christened the 'pain van' (for pain read 'bread' in french!).
Enough to do in area for at least a week - Paris, Parc Asterix (v busy on day we went with 2 hour queues and no disney style fast pass, so choose your visiting day / time carefully! Lots of French school trips!), Chantilly, Senlis etc.
St Leu OK - certainly a friendly welcome at the bar when my husband and son watched the Euro 2008 final! Easy to walk to from campsite.

We chose Campix because we wanted a site handy for trips into Paris plus somewhere that offered a sense of 'wild' camping. We were not disapointed. Set in an old quarry, very overgrown in parts and teeming with birdlife and red squirels, it really did give us the feeling of camping deep in the woods - also with the added bonus of being able to light campfires which was especially nice when the temperatures began to drop in the evening. Facilities are adequate but no shop, toilet/shower block very clean, childrens playground ok but not brilliant. The pool looked like it would be good in summer but at this time of the year was not an option.Water and power points are liberally dotted around the place. The town is about twenty minutes walk away and offers a reasonable little selection of shops and a few bars and restaurants which was perfectly adequate for our needs.
Paris is easy to get to, drive about 20 mins south down the road to Fosse/Survilliers (one of the outlying stops on the Paris metro) and buy an all zone travel card. There is a large free carpark near the station and metro trains run late into the night.
Overall we enjoyed the experience very much - to be in the heart of Paris one minute, then an hour later sat around a roaring campfire in the woods under the stars was a fantastic treat and one I would highly reccomend. Just a few words of caution - I feel it is an amazing privilage in these days of health and safety regulations to be treated like an adult and allowed to light a good old fashioned campfire without some warden breathing down your neck every ten minutes - just remember to use a bit of 'boy-scout' commonsense. Also, it is an old quarry - it has cliffs and caves cut deep into the rock (fenced off but no match for an inquisitive youngster). We had a small group of children ranging from 18 months to 9 yrs old and we felt absolutely fine letting the older ones wander off semi-supervised to explore but not before we had familiarised ourselves with the small number of potentialy dangerous areas and made absolutely certain the kids understood which bits to keep clear of.
Overall this is a wonderful site offering an experience that is getting harder to find these days - 'proper' camping and all the delights (and some dangers) that go with it. We will definitely be returning - my 6 yr old boy is insisting on it and says it is the best place he has ever been to.

My family and I stayed at this campsite for 10 days this August and had a fantastic time. Would like to add following: 1/ The site is beautiful, peaceful, has a fantastic pool (that kept my kids permanently occupied) and makes a great base for visits to Paris, Chantilly etc. 2/ A local Patisserie shop sends a van to the campsite at 8:30 every morning with delicious fresh bread & croissants. This goes some way to make up for lack of any shop facilities on site. 3/ The village of St Leu is a tired run-down place however and not worth visiting except for the abbey. 4/ At the extreme south of the village (past the railway station) is an impressive park complex with swimming and watersports in the lake, and loads of activities for kids. Entrance fees are reasonable and the swimming end of the lake has sandy beaches with lifeguards, cafe, playground, BBQ areas etc. Will definitely recommend this site - but be prepared to do hand washing, as there is only a single (tired) washing machine.

This is the first French site we have visited but compared to several other UK sites this is by far the best (despite the name). The manager speaks fluent English and is very friendly, we left reception with leaflets, maps and a list of activities for our stay. We were told we could camp in any available pitch but he recommended some areas that were free. The whole site is in a an old quarry which has fully re-grown and as such there are several pitches that are secluded and surrounded by trees. The pitch we chose (31) was lovely, as it was very close to the facilities but totally secluded and we couldn't see another tent or caravan in our area. The surrounding trees were full of birds and they would sing at dusk and dawn everyday. Open fire are permitted although we stuck to the BBQ, this gives you the impression of wild camping but with the benefit of a toilet block. Very peaceful. The toilet block was clean and the water was very hot, all the toilets were "English", albeit without toilet seats. There is only one toilet block and had we been at the other end of the site it would have been quite a walk. The only other negative comment would be that there were no cold taps in the washroom. We were there on the second May bank holiday and couldn't believe how quiet the site was which added to the tranquillity of it. The village is a 10 minute walk away, and, although not the perfect image of a French village, it had a beautiful large abbey, a few shops and a boulangerie (which sent a van to the campsite every morning selling fresh bread and croissants). Chantilly is a few kms away and contained a gorgeous Chateau. Had the weather been better we would have liked to follow the cycle route in the Pierrefonds or Chantilly foret. We took a day trip to Paris from a local station, the train runs every 15 mins and takes 30 mins to Gard du Nord, tickets cost EUR12 for a day travel card that is valid for all public transport in Paris. This is a lovely site and the best we have visited by far, we hope to go back and for better weather.
